This was just the perfect tutorial I needed. I have a Alienware 17 R3 that needed more storage. Now I can swap my old 250gb drive with a new Samsung 1tb drive with confidence. Thank you!!!!
I greatly appreciate the assistance you provided that enabled me to install two 1 TB NVMe SSDs into my Alienware R3 and clone the operating system into the larger drive - thanks again!
My Alienware 17 R1 was shipped to me stock in Raid (x2 - 1 TB harddrives = 2 TB) and I'd like to upgrade to x1 4TB SSD and not be in raid anymore. How do I clone my 2 harddrives in raid to a single ssd? (Note: if you're familiar with the Alienware 17 R1, the spec sheet has 3x 2.5in SATA slots. I have a Blu ray reader so I'm pretty sure that takes up the "third" sata slot space? I could be wrong, just trying to give you all the info)
Great Video! I am Subscribing~~ I noticed that your SSD cards do not have a copper heat sink on them. My m17 R3 main SSD drive came with one, but when I went to upgrade they did not tell me I also needed to purchase a second copper heat sink plate. I am wondering if this is needed for the second drive, once I make the newly cloned drive my main OS drive. Also, I would be interested to know how to wipe the old OS SSD drive...
The heat sinks are great add-ons especially if you do intensive gaming or video editing. After cloning and making sure it boots up with no issues, you can reconnect the drive externally using an SSD caddy and a USB adapter, and then format the drive like a flash drive (if access if denied, use disk management and delete its partitions manually. Next right click on the new unallocated disk and create new partition. Windows + X to access disk management).
Thx , I want to buy one with 1460,47 dolars, and it only hai 125 SSD and 1T HDD, I nead to upgrade to 500gb SSD to instal windows on it BC I want to download many games and I don't want to run out of space on local disk c, pr use an 250 SSD
I've never ran my SSDs in RAID, but I would go for RAID. That's just my preference, but if you are using the same ssd in question in this video, RAID will probably be an overkill unless you are setting it up for the data protection perspective.
So I have this alienware and it boots up with the HDD it comes with I want to change it to boot up on the SSD instead because restarts are way too slow. Can you show how to transfer all OS information from HDD to a SSD?
just clone your HDD into your SSD using AOMEI Backupper , then change the SSD Drive Letter to "C" (boot drives are always C drives), remove the HDD and keep the SSD only in the computer. Launch your BIOS and change the boot settings to your ssd. In some computers, you also have to turn off secure boot. When you successfully boot from the SSD, you can reinsert the HDD and use it as storage drive.. th-cam.com/video/ZonwecwHZ60/w-d-xo.html
Question! I cloned the SSD, but I can't figure out how to boot from the SSD. I went to BIOS and there is no option for boot order. Only thing it has is boot option and windows boot manager is selected with no SSD. I switched it from RAID to ACHI inorder to see the drive. I just can't get it to boot from the SSD. Please help! Thank you!
If the ssd is not being used as your C drive, you will be kind of wasting potential. But you can install your power hungry programs on it, they will run faster. You still get added benefits, but even better if you use it a boot drive
if my boot and files are on my C: drive, do I still have to copy, nothing is on my current HDD as its faulty and does not hold anything as well has been formatted.
Only the files on the drive being replaced need to be copied over. Since you are not replacing the C drive, you don't need to copy anything. If you were replacing the C drive, then you would have to clone it to the new drive
@@YvonSmart Picked up my new 2tb ssd QVO 870 today and just had to make it be seen and its all sweet, if it wasn't honestly for you I would have just sold the laptop and been buggered for a while. not only did you help me keep and upgrade my laptop but also found and issue that my battery was not plugged in so again if it wasn't for you and your video I would have tossed a perfectly fine laptop. So thank you so much for your videos mate, Love from Aus, made me super happy man!!
My original SSD is on its way out after many years, and this is the exact tutorial I needed for the replacement. Thanks a ton!

hello brother what is the best configuration in the bios for these hard drives, RAID on or AHCI
I've never ran my SSDs in RAID, but I would go for RAID. That's just my preference, but if you are using the same ssd in question in this video, RAID will probably be an overkill unless you are setting it up for the data protection perspective.
Cool video!!!
Thanks bro!!
nailed it!
Hello. I have Alienware 17 from way back 2013. Is it fit?
Not sure, but you can research or check by removing the back cover
Thanks!!!!
I just got my 970 pro 500gb way faster than the Evo💯💯

Make sure you inserted the ssd to the right socket (Where your boot drive used to be) and assign the Letter C to the cloned drive.
Have you had any problem with the ssd?
Not a single problem after a year of intensive usage
Can I use a gen 4 ssd on the Alienware 17 r4 ?
Thanks
If I don’t put the new upgraded ssd as the primary boot drive will I not get the added benefits of having a upgraded ssd?

Do you know if they is any difference doing this in the area 51m? It has a ssd 2 slot
The Area 51m should have the same ports if not more. It's a very upgradable computer
How did you erase your 970 evo nwme m.2 and use it as storage
Using an SSD drive enclosure. You can then connect it to your computer using the included cable
What drive enclosure you use I seen some that not compatible with 970 evo
Hey so will this lower temperatures while gaming?
It should, it makes the computer quiet as well
can you install tu a R4 17 a Gen 4 ssd?
Yes, but it will only run at gen 3 speed
can i use this for drive c?
That's even the best way to upgrade, unless your drive C is already faster
N/A status, can't be loaded on magician..
WHAT HAPPEN TO THE LINK?
I just added the link, my bad, forgot to paste!
Can we used 2tb nvme? What is the limit?
Yes you can. If you are running older systems (MBR) you are limited to 2TB, but with UEFI GPT you can go up to 4TB, not sure if you can go higher...
@@YvonSmart Thanks u, I just put the 2tb nvme. it working just fine. thanks for the tips
