    test drove a '14 with the 2.0L turbo -- never thought that I'd be OK with a CVT, but I could own that vehicle considering how practical it is combined with the acceleration. The only issue I had with that particular test drive was the softness of the brakes and that could have been specific to the vehicle.

    At 3:42 of the video Sofyan dislikes the CVT . This is a disservice to both CR-V and XT shoppers. I drove a new CR-V and the Honda CVT failed to stay in the engine's sweet spot. I drove the Forester, my first reaction was yes, Subaru got the CVT right. When I put my foot into it, the Subaru displays little engine lag, the twin scroll turbo kicks in at a low 2,000 rpm. Subaru says 250 hp comes on at 5,600 rpm. Sounds about right, I'm sure well over 100 mph. I bought brand new the last Forester XT made. That only happened because I drove the Honda CR-V first and came away so disappointed, after being a Honda man for years. You pay a bit more for the Subaru, and get a lot more. Just know the other Korean make and Japanese makes will be in catchup mode for awhile.

    Great Redline Top 5, Sofyan! Subaru is definitely in good standing, in the automotive world!
    The Forester is beginning to show its age, just a little, but it definitely deserves a look. Pricing is pretty high, but you definitely have to weigh in your needs and wants!

    I have a 2015 6m. Decent motor but could use more power. Why doesn't Subaru offer an intermediate engine between the base and the turbo - say for example a 200 hp normally aspirated four?

    • @dillonh321
      @dillonh321 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @tommymas1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is. I upgraded from a 2014 XT Touring time 2018 XT Touring and the quietness is very noticeable. In the 2017 model, they put more sound proofing all over, more door seals, thicker glass, etc. Still not the quietest ride out there but know I enjoy highway rides.

      A.J. Heron Actually, yes they used to offer a 6-speed manual on the base Sport trim. I suspect next to no one bought them though so Mazda dropped it entirely for the mid cycle refresh. People just don't want manual transmissions in crossovers in the USA. I just checked though and Mazda still offers a 6-speed manual on the CX-5 in Canada.

    • @niuhuskieguy
      @niuhuskieguy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jo Loui The oil burning only was an issue with the first iterations of the FB series engines. At least as far as the latest Outback and Legacy, the oil burning seems to be a done deal. I'm not sure the Forester is using the newer FB engine (the XT Forester actually uses a version of the FA, not the FB)

I wish the Forester for a touring had a few things that should come standard on a touring model at a price around 32k. some added comments from an owner of exactly the same car, after 7,000 mi and 6 mo.: I've been rather annoyed by the behavior of some of the electronic features, and dealer/mfr inability to understand and explain them. such as, auto headlight sensitivity is adjustable, but which way is which? why does car not auto-relock after a butt-unlock? why does car not auto-lock on driveaway even as an option? power tailgate is slow and gets confused mirrors not included in seat memory message board and beeper get totally confused after an ignition cycling with no engine start (like to listen to radio while cleaning interior) ditto if you turn off engine before shifting to Park setting clock to daylight savings is exasperatingly confusing and being a retired geek with time to spend, I've taken it to the drag strip to compare against my '14 A5 cabrio, and despite +30 hp and -350 lb weight, the Forester is only -0.1 sec and +2.0 mph faster in the 1/4 mile -- implicating the CVT again? And impressively the Audi gets +3 or +4 mpg at all constant highway speeds compared to the Subaru, which I've carefully measured and calibrated.

    • @deviouslaw
      @deviouslaw 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Audi relocking itself if you don't make it to the car fast enough drives me insane. As for the speed thing, one thing about VW/Audi/BMW and even some other manufacturers is that they lie through their teeth about the rated horsepower. My 2.0T A3 makes more to the wheels than they claim at the crank, so that might explain some of that. Their logic is that a turbo motor's output can be dependent on a number of variables (for example, the 1.4T in the cruze is known to be gutless in hot weather on regular unleaded) so the germans rate on a worst case basis. Also you're comparing a car MPG to an SUV with over 8 inches of ground clearance. It's not really a valid comparison. If it really won't lock itself when you drive off I'll admit that is totally bizarre. Then again so is the fact that the only form of childlock I can tell is on my Audi is that the rear doors take two pulls, as if children wouldn't do that. Thankfully I'm 22 so the car will be gone before it's an issue.
