Awesome video. Part number for the intake manifold screws (get 10): Part Number: 004-990-53-12. Part number for the manifold gaskets (2): Part Number: 159-141-05-80. Part number for the PCV breather valve (1): 156-010-03-70
What an amazing video. The density of information is astounding. Cannot tell you how much respect I have for this kind of work. Sincerely, from Montréal
These engines go together like a good LEGO set. Very straight forward. Understandable. Well designed. Could have used a bit longer lasting parts but hey. Cant have it all.
Your new shop looks awesome ! Good luck with it you deserve a great shop, I love these tutorial videos , I watch even though I don't have this engine , I hope one day you have M157 spark plug change video hint, hint lol , if your not a mechanic theses cars can be very intimidating to work on , Thanks for sharing
Great video. I’m currently collecting parts to perform this job. Tassos could you specify if the bolts can be reused for the inner throttle body plate? Also please post torque specs for the inner throttle body plate bolts and torque specs for valve cover bolts? Thanks again!
Hi Tasos, thanks for the nice educational video, i'm removing intake manifold on my SL63 AMG, which has same engine, I have run into a unique problem, please let me know if you have faced similar problem before. i disconnected everything and removed eight T40 torx bolts but the intake manifold is not moving at all, it looks like it is glued to the cylinder head. Do you think Mercedes has used silicon to stick the intake manifold to the cyclinder head. Please advise how to proceed, thanks in advance
His Tasos thanks for your videos you are the master of these motors! I got a used intake manifold which is very dirty inside and I want to clean it, and I got the 2 halves open (which was very hard, someone used too much RTV). I want to clean the lid with the plastic inside for the runners, I see 4 bolts that hold in the inner metal section on that the plastic baffles are attached to, but I cannot seem to pull it out? is there a trick to this? I assume it's not safe to use a parts washer with the plastic part in. If I can get the inner section of the top out I can clean all the oil by hand if I have to. Also on the side with the throttle bodies, I can't seem to get the top part off. There is a black hose that is very short preventing me from separating the top from coming off after removing all of the bolts. Is there a trick there also? Also I see you recommend vasoline for the half with the seals on the throttle boddy side, for putting the top lid back on do you also use vasoline instead of RTV there as well?
Thanks for your video, I had the same problem with my intake manifold it was broken, but very difficult to find the parts alone Mercedes sold only the full block 2200 euros I found the parts in usa for 250 $ fortunatlly....
have another quick question, what is your take on eurocharged tunes on the m156. i am looking to get long tube MBH headers on my e63, and eurocharged claims they can tune my car very conservatively to not try and squeeze the maximum amount of power out of it, which they claim wont affect the longevity of the drivetrain. What is your opinion? does a tune eventually damage the drivetrain even if its just full exhaust and not a super aggressive tune? Also, how difficult is the header install? my car is a 2010 e63. I have changed engine mounts and other parts in that area, im mildly mechanically inclined so im wondering if i could tackle this myself. thanks again for all of your videos and responses, and the new shop looks great.
Thanks for sharing that. I broke that little plastic tab on my M112 engine because I didn't know it existed. You can't see it from the top of the engine.
This is the video I was waiting for, I like to do this job my self on my 2007 E63. I don'd belief nobody will do all the cleaning small details like a car owner, not even the dealer, I have bad results with!! I can see you use a professional part cleaner first ( any suggestions on brand, size, etc ). Please understand this is on my situation only, have terrible result with MBenz dealer and do not know any trusted AMG mechanic to do it for me. Thanks "GREAT VIDEOS" from Florida
is it possible for this intake corrosion issue to cause lean conditions bank 1/ lean conditions at idle bank 1 and only one bank? considering the location of where this corrosion likes to occur I want to think you would have ME lean condition codes for both banks and not just one. Any input greatly appreciated
You are a true magician! I see a lot of your video and it’s very a good job... I have got a question for you, I changed my intake manifold (fault P0521) on a Mercedes with the motor M272 and I have got again the same code .... I am confused with this... what do you think it can be ? Thanks a lot
Steve Flores hi, honestly I haven't even try to search for the seal ( most probably they are not selling separate ) I'm washing the old one with detergent and then I put it back, if it's damaged I'm getting used intake manifold.
Hi Tasos Can you please explain again shortly what I can remove when I have LTH without Cats installed? I can remove the two aluminum valves, the two black cables/wirings and the airpump but not the little black connector between the valves correct? Thanks!!
+Joe Quax yes, don't remove the solenoid valve that's controlling the vacuum of the two aluminum valves and don't forget to turn off the air pump as well
+Joe Quax yes, keep in mind that you will not see any difference by cancelling this system, the only thing that is doing is to blow fresh air on the exhaust manifold to activate the catalytic converters faster and it's working only on cold start for couple of seconds
Remove the old intake manifold and install brand new it's 3 hrs Max. But 1st the engine need to be cold, 2nd new intake manifold gaskets, 3rd new PCV and 4th new intake manifold bolts. If your engine have high millage I would suggest to change the fuel injector seals as well.
+Trusted Fleet you have to ask the AMG not me 😊, all the m156 engines have the same amount of oil inside of the intake manifold after 100,000 km. You can avoid all this by installing an oil catch can/oil separator.
Tasos Moschatos. Hah yes it should be a question for them. I followed your video and successfully change my intake camshaft adjuster. Oddly enough when the car warms up and the revs come down there is still a sound coming from the intake adjuster area. Is this another amg flaw? I started to wonder if it's the chain or tensioner since it happens when it's warm but the car runs like a dream and no idle issues. Any thoughts?
Yeah, it's another well known AMG recommended oil quality scheme and that's the way your engine complaining with you. To avoid premature wear on your cylinder heads make sure to use 10w 60 oil only.

I understood you fine. And more importantly, I understand my m156 engine better now because of your video. Thanks!

Nothing like the m113k engine with weistec mods its a monster
I seen this video 3 times because I will do this on my e63, thanks for all this info. Later!!
Same here

Tasos forgot to ask you for the torque for the intake bolts,, replaced them and going after marked with better bolts it's necessary? Thanks again
When you put the brake booster hose back on, do you need to do anything or nothing just plug back in?
+Ethan Ward just slide it inside and it's locked
Thank you, your channel deserves alot more subscribers.

Tasos, I did the IM cleaning following your advise here. I put it all back together nicely. Now I am getting P0108 error. What could it be?
M’y c63 whisling
Hi Tasos, do you happen to know the average LTFT for these engines?
4:58 what's the car in the back with the orange rims? a porsche?
What do you use to pain after Sounding and cleaning?
Where can I get the inner seals for the manifold? Local places around here only have the ones for the outside where the manifold sits.
Steve Flores hi, honestly I haven't even try to search for the seal ( most probably they are not selling separate ) I'm washing the old one with detergent and then I put it back, if it's damaged I'm getting used intake manifold.
You need to get a name plate to add to that from the original engine builder. Well done.
Hi Tasos Can you please explain again shortly what I can remove when I have LTH without Cats installed? I can remove the two aluminum valves, the two black cables/wirings and the airpump but not the little black connector between the valves correct? Thanks!!
+Joe Quax yes, don't remove the solenoid valve that's controlling the vacuum of the two aluminum valves and don't forget to turn off the air pump as well
Tasos Moschatos okay thank you Tasos. What do you mean with turning off the airpump? Do i have to do that with Mercedes Star Diagnosis?
+Joe Quax yes, keep in mind that you will not see any difference by cancelling this system, the only thing that is doing is to blow fresh air on the exhaust manifold to activate the catalytic converters faster and it's working only on cold start for couple of seconds
okay thank you tasos. I think I remove it because I dont need it anymore with my LTH installed.
How long to remove and replace, thanks Taso
Remove the old intake manifold and install brand new it's 3 hrs Max.
But 1st the engine need to be cold, 2nd new intake manifold gaskets, 3rd new PCV and 4th new intake manifold bolts.

if my amg mechanic doesn't smoke a cigarette while working on my car I don't want him to touch my car
Haha while holding the fuel rail
How can Ovid this?
👍👍👍
How did the oil get inside the intake manifold?
