Not exactly unheard of a young striker scores a handful of goals until it clicks at around 23 with constant games. The issue for Hoijland is the lack of season on season game time guarantee coupled with the price tag. That weight is never going to be easy.

Take away Bruno, who hasn't been playing well, and Rashford, who is all but out of the door and then look at our attackers ages. Garnacho is 20, Hojlund is 21, Diallo is 22, Zirkzee is 23. Even Antony is only 24. You can't expect such young players to perform consistently. They will show flashes of brilliance but also play awfully at other times. Especially when the older players aren't exactly guiding them at the moment. We have transitioned from an aging attack with the likes of Ronaldo and Cavani to a young and inexperienced attack. We are having the same issue that Chelsea did last season where the players just aren't clicking and haven't gotten the consistency yet. The difference is that they got a Cole Palmer. That one guy who brings it all together and became the talisman of the team. The other players don't have to worry about being "the guy" anymore and aren't overthinking and trying too hard. We need to find a player like that, and we will suffer until we do. Every top team has one. Palmer, Salah, De Bruyne, Vini, Yamal (incredibly), Kane etc. It used to be that Bruno filled that role for us but he has lost his edge and isn't doing it anymore.

Football is not as simple as they're paid the same, so he should do the same as Salah. Football is a team sport, and a team needs to generally play well . If all players are playing well then Rashford with the same anount of chances puts away many chances. Simply, the TEAM does not create enough chances. it's nothing to do with Rashford. The team infact do not create enough chances for Rashford. As Rashford's Conversion ratio and Shot accuracy is the same as Salah's.

United can't score because there's no players except Amad who can carry the ball and beat a man. When eg Bruno has the ball he has to pass or go backwards or side to side. Because no one can break the lines it just condenses everyone into the penalty area so by the time it goes to Rasmus he's surrounded and has no space. Because the midfield has basically nullified their own striker and they can't beat the man in front of them, they then have to shoot long or pass into a condensed area which usually results in loss of possession followed by the opposition countering. Amorim's system plays through the lines more than ten hags so once Bruno is replaced with a proper no.10 we should see vast improvements.
You do realise that Amorim has explicity said how United have historically built up too fast, and it's become too transition based and that's why players can't "keep up". He's purposely slowed down our build up, forcing players to play sideways and backwards to ensure we control possession and don't get countered as much.. but sure bud it's the players doing it

The strikers aren't the issue, why is Bournemouth's xG currently the 2nd or 3rd best (depending on which site you use) in the league? Even their expected goals conceded is better than Chelsea's (and of course ours) so it's not like they're just pure out and out attack either. Would you say Bournemouth have the 2nd or third best striker or striker partnership in the league? We have the 6th worst expected goals, interestingly Forest's is worse than ours, which shows that it is not our strikers that are the issue, we're just not creating enough chances, the difference is that with Forest they're happier to sit back and limit the amount of chances they concede while relying on counters and long balls to Wood. It's all about the system you use and ours just isn't working, the strikers are not the main reason for our lack of creativity, the number one issue is what we do in wide areas, which is heavily linked to particular traits like agility, cadence, acceleration, dribbling etc. I honestly think even a player like Amad isn't good enough for us, but because he's done better than our other wingers we get all emotional over him. At times I honestly think even Hutchinson at Ipswich looks better than Amad in terms of his dynamism and technique... Amad's technique is a little sus if you ask me.

I don't think Ten Hag was a good coach as you have said in your conclusion.. He had veto on transfers, didn't always get his first target but a lot of the squad was built by him. He just could not get a tune out of them, and abandoned his Ajax way within 3 games at the club and instead worked on short term fixed and introduced the chaos ball that the players seem to thrive in now. 90% of the signings made during Ten hags veto era have been dreadful.

The biggest culprit is bruno. Hes missed 8 , yes 8 big chances and converted 2. The big chances he is missing arent being created by Bruno, they are created by others. I believe the chances are falling for poor finisher bruno because hojlund and others are occupying defenders which creates the space for the chance. Bruno is not strong enough to return the favour. He cannot occupy a defender or 2 so that the more clinical hojlund gets the chance to be in the space to put away the big chances that bruno spurns. Another reason our attackers dont take enough shots, is because bruno hogs that stat. He has more shots than anyone and his return is rubbish. This 5 year bruno ' chief creaator' experiment does not bring more team goals or make us a better team. It just gives bruno a load of pretty meaningless individual stats that dont help TEAM

Ollie Watkins should be our priority signing, he is experienced in premier league, is used to the physicality of the league, signing someone like Gyökeras from Portuguese league for 100 million will not work out at United.

This is down to ETH and Arnold. Its not that "just" the £86m on Anthony; it is causing the rift with £72m Sancho. It is not "just" £72m on an equally hopeless Rasmus Hojlund, it is in 2 ways for him 1) Sacrificing CR7 who in a crap season still scored 18 goals. 2) When it worked with Wout creating space space for Rashford and Garnacho; Rasmus eats the space. If we signed Zirkeee who is paid 40% of what Rasmus is and cost 50% as much; we would have been better off. Its the unnecessary spending on Onana and Mount. Its getting Malacia as a backup; at £120k/week. Had these signings not been there, we would have made it. But ETH wanted his own people, be it ex players or SEG players. And Arnold allowed it.

Seems to me we need to prioritise (one of things we’ve been awful at in recruitment). Hojlund has a great conversion rate, so he’s not the problem. Obvious greater need is a LWB and a creative attacker. Olmo could be a godsend in the short term. We need to be thinking loans and maybe free transfers, cos we’re skint.

Ten Hag seemed to have entered this season banking on a sestet of Rashford, Hojland, Garnacho, Zirkzee, Antony & Amad competing for 3 positions. Antony simply isn't good enough, Rashford too inconsistent, & the other 4 too early into their careers to be provided with such high expectations...& so our struggles in front of goal isn't a surprise!!!
The goalscoring is not as bad as it was under Ten Hag. That was dire. The problem isn’t the wing backs now. The problem is all our attacking play goes through Bruno. We’re predictable.
I think it’s clear that we’re missing quality in the forward line. We had a solid window in the summer. Now time to add world class quality. United have to bust a gut to get either Wirtz or Musiala. We need forwards that can open up defences, assist, score goals, beat players and are consistent. Isaac would be ideal up top. Then we need 2 world class wing backs. Clear out the dead wood + those 4 signings and we will challenge.
United have two choices. Go back to Ole-ball and have a good chance against big teams, but no way to break down smaller teams who sit deep; or get rid of Bruno and genuinely rebuild the team with new players who can make Amorim's system work. Nothing else is going to work when our "best" player can only do no-look flick-ons that sometimes find a runner, but who cannot hold possession, cannot dribble, cannot go past defenders, cannot dictate the pace of play, cannot rally the players when things go south, cannot press, cannot tackle.

A better pair probably than any 2 from the 4 main Utd centre backs who between them cost circa 200 million quid . And now there is talk of a wing back for £58 million ? Something needs to change.
We were saying this in pre season BEFORE they sold Scotty. A different type of forward like Osimhen is needed asap. Less greedy wingers (Garnacho and Amad) and wingbacks that do more in attack would be a big help too. Time is needed to learn the managers style but also many of the players are square pegs trying to fit in round holes.
We can’t be blaming lack of wingbacks on Rashford not having any shots. He’s barely played under Amorin! I bet if you look at Amad’s touches in the box and shots per 90, it’ll be miles ahead of Rashfords. That’s because he is capable of getting into a position to receive the ball and either by quick passing or dribbling can get himself a chance to get a shot off. That’s what Salah does, but to a much higher level. That isn’t a dig at Amad by the way. Not many players in the world do it to the level Salah does. Salah isn’t just standing around in the box and the ball arrives at his feet to take a shot.
Liverpool don't play with a statue ST just ruining space in the middle. Give Rashford the space closer to the box then he will get more shots off but Hojlund just ruins that space every single game. Shots with and without Hojlund on the pitch.
Do our strikers need to do better, absolutely. However, the bigger issue are the players behind them and the lack of ammunition. Chris Wood is scoring tap ins for Forest, is Chris Wood an elite striker, no. However the team plays to his strengths and create chances. Again, our strikers can be improved but watching out matches, we don’t miss sitter after sitter after sitter, we just don’t create enough chances. Rasmus has a good goal conversion rate, however he barely gets any clear cut chances created. The midfield offers nothing and it’s because they have no legs - just look at how Cunha was able to glide past our players recently. We have no runners, someone able to go to the line and create cut backs or balls across the box for tap ins - it’s poor. The strikers need help.

Can't score against any good team, found his level playing against Newport County and relegation teams. His entire career is a 7 game purple patch. Completely ruined the attacking structure of the team. Bruno and Amad are creating chances for fun yet none to him. @@marcus8030 Yes, but it wouldn't have solved the problem that has been papered over for 4-5 seasons, up front is a graveyard shift at UTD. Hojlund isn't the finished article, but his conversion rate to shots taken is one of the highest in the league. Putting more water in a bucket with a hole in it isn't ever going to be a good way to fix the hole in the bucket. Ronaldo, Zlatan and Cavani scored despite the problem of lack of chance creation, and Kane would likely have done the same, but that means your tied to having to buy 2 of the best 4 or 5 strikers in the world just to realistically compete. Pick any random game between 2 mid table or lower teams, and they almost always have a couple of clear chances as well as the half chances, we just don't do that, even as often as ordinary teams in the league.

Get right and left footers playing on the correct wings and crossing the ball into the box. Kinda like David Beckham and Ryan Giggs used to do, then get a couple of hard decent midfielders like Byron Robson and Roy Keane in midfield. It ain't rocket science. Everytime we have a match againts whoever the opposition up there effort to make it as bad as possible that's the name of the game . United cant take the pressure there just not good enough they lose the ball there passing is useless ... playing the ball out of defence is not working goalkeeper is under stress and making mistakes . Instead they should be taking longer goal kicks up the field and putting opposition under more pressure . In 10 seasons he's only got into double league goal figures, 4 times! And two of them he got 10, and 11 respectively.
If his attitude is first class, and he's working hard he's an asset. A squad asset. But at the minute he's a cancer in there. It shouldn't even be a debate to sell him. Not exactly unheard of a young striker scores a handful of goals until it clicks at around 23 with constant games. The issue for Hoijland is the lack of season on season game time guarantee coupled with the price tag. That weight is never going to be easy.

Take away Bruno, who hasn't been playing well, and Rashford, who is all but out of the door and then look at our attackers ages. Garnacho is 20, Hojlund is 21, Diallo is 22, Zirkzee is 23. Even Antony is only 24.
You can't expect such young players to perform consistently. They will show flashes of brilliance but also play awfully at other times. Especially when the older players aren't exactly guiding them at the moment.
We have transitioned from an aging attack with the likes of Ronaldo and Cavani to a young and inexperienced attack. We are having the same issue that Chelsea did last season where the players just aren't clicking and haven't gotten the consistency yet.
The difference is that they got a Cole Palmer. That one guy who brings it all together and became the talisman of the team. The other players don't have to worry about being "the guy" anymore and aren't overthinking and trying too hard. We need to find a player like that, and we will suffer until we do. Every top team has one. Palmer, Salah, De Bruyne, Vini, Yamal (incredibly), Kane etc.
It used to be that Bruno filled that role for us but he has lost his edge and isn't doing it anymore.

Football is not as simple as they're paid the same, so he should do the same as Salah. Football is a team sport, and a team needs to generally play well . If all players are playing well then Rashford with the same anount of chances puts away many chances. Simply, the TEAM does not create enough chances. it's nothing to do with Rashford. The team infact do not create enough chances for Rashford. As Rashford's Conversion ratio and Shot accuracy is the same as Salah's.

United can't score because there's no players except Amad who can carry the ball and beat a man.
When eg Bruno has the ball he has to pass or go backwards or side to side. Because no one can break the lines it just condenses everyone into the penalty area so by the time it goes to Rasmus he's surrounded and has no space.
Because the midfield has basically nullified their own striker and they can't beat the man in front of them, they then have to shoot long or pass into a condensed area which usually results in loss of possession followed by the opposition countering.
Amorim's system plays through the lines more than ten hags so once Bruno is replaced with a proper no.10 we should see vast improvements.
You do realise that Amorim has explicity said how United have historically built up too fast, and it's become too transition based and that's why players can't "keep up". He's purposely slowed down our build up, forcing players to play sideways and backwards to ensure we control possession and don't get countered as much.. but sure bud it's the players doing it

The strikers aren't the issue, why is Bournemouth's xG currently the 2nd or 3rd best (depending on which site you use) in the league? Even their expected goals conceded is better than Chelsea's (and of course ours) so it's not like they're just pure out and out attack either.
Would you say Bournemouth have the 2nd or third best striker or striker partnership in the league? We have the 6th worst expected goals, interestingly Forest's is worse than ours, which shows that it is not our strikers that are the issue, we're just not creating enough chances, the difference is that with Forest they're happier to sit back and limit the amount of chances they concede while relying on counters and long balls to Wood. It's all about the system you use and ours just isn't working, the strikers are not the main reason for our lack of creativity, the number one issue is what we do in wide areas, which is heavily linked to particular traits like agility, cadence, acceleration, dribbling etc. I honestly think even a player like Amad isn't good enough for us, but because he's done better than our other wingers we get all emotional over him. At times I honestly think even Hutchinson at Ipswich looks better than Amad in terms of his dynamism and technique... Amad's technique is a little sus if you ask me.
Quality informative look into all aspects of the club. These teething issues are still within their first season of ineos, at this point the season looks like a write off. The biggest culprit is bruno. Hes missed 8 , yes 8 big chances and converted 2. The big chances he is missing arent being created by Bruno, they are created by others.
I believe the chances are falling for poor finisher bruno because hojlund and others are occupying defenders which creates the space for the chance.
Bruno is not strong enough to return the favour. He cannot occupy a defender or 2 so that the more clinical hojlund gets the chance to be in the space to put away the big chances that bruno spurns.
Another reason our attackers dont take enough shots, is because bruno hogs that stat. He has more shots than anyone and his return is rubbish.
This 5 year bruno ' chief creaator' experiment does not bring more team goals or make us a better team. It just gives bruno a load of pretty meaningless individual stats that dont help TEAM

Hojlund and Zirkzee at best are backup strikers in top top sides they would be your carabao cup strikers or fa cup you woukd start them then.....at Man utd theyre first team, don't expect great returns when you haven't got great forwards.
I think Hojlund will come good when he finally gets coached by Amorim. As we know he has hardly had any time to train the team with the ludicrous amount of fixtures. Zirkzee isn't the right fit whatsoever.

Ollie Watkins should be our priority signing, he is experienced in premier league, is used to the physicality of the league, signing someone like Gyökeras from Portuguese league for 100 million will not work out at United.

Its not that "just" the £86m on Anthony; it is causing the rift with £72m Sancho.
It is not "just" £72m on an equally hopeless Rasmus Hojlund, it is in 2 ways for him
1) Sacrificing CR7 who in a crap season still scored 18 goals.
2) When it worked with Wout creating space space for Rashford and Garnacho; Rasmus eats the space. If we signed Zirkeee who is paid 40% of what Rasmus is and cost 50% as much; we would have been better off.
Its the unnecessary spending on Onana and Mount.
Its getting Malacia as a backup; at £120k/week.
Had these signings not been there, we would have made it.

Seems to me we need to prioritise (one of things we’ve been awful at in recruitment). Hojlund has a great conversion rate, so he’s not the problem. Obvious greater need is a LWB and a creative attacker. Olmo could be a godsend in the short term. We need to be thinking loans and maybe free transfers, cos we’re skint.
Hojlund is a problem he's not good enough, I'm sure the manager will be looking to sign a decent striker soon.

Ten Hag seemed to have entered this season banking on a sestet of Rashford, Hojland, Garnacho, Zirkzee, Antony & Amad competing for 3 positions. Antony simply isn't good enough, Rashford too inconsistent, & the other 4 too early into their careers to be provided with such high expectations...& so our struggles in front of goal isn't a surprise!!!
The goalscoring is not as bad as it was under Ten Hag. That was dire. The problem isn’t the wing backs now. The problem is all our attacking play goes through Bruno. We’re predictable.
I think it’s clear that we’re missing quality in the forward line. We had a solid window in the summer. Now time to add world class quality. United have to bust a gut to get either Wirtz or Musiala. We need forwards that can open up defences, assist, score goals, beat players and are consistent. Isaac would be ideal up top. Then we need 2 world class wing backs. Clear out the dead wood + those 4 signings and we will challenge.
United have two choices. Go back to Ole-ball and have a good chance against big teams, but no way to break down smaller teams who sit deep; or get rid of Bruno and genuinely rebuild the team with new players who can make Amorim's system work. Nothing else is going to work when our "best" player can only do no-look flick-ons that sometimes find a runner, but who cannot hold possession, cannot dribble, cannot go past defenders, cannot dictate the pace of play, cannot rally the players when things go south, cannot press, cannot tackle.

Less greedy wingers (Garnacho and Amad) and wingbacks that do more in attack would be a big help too. I bet if you look at Amad’s touches in the box and shots per 90, it’ll be miles ahead of Rashfords. That’s because he is capable of getting into a position to receive the ball and either by quick passing or dribbling can get himself a chance to get a shot off.

Amorim insists on playing one fewer attacker. Tht inevitably means fewer attacks, so fewer goals for a team tht were far from prolific to start with.
Do our strikers need to do better, absolutely. However, the bigger issue are the players behind them and the lack of ammunition.
Chris Wood is scoring tap ins for Forest, is Chris Wood an elite striker, no. However the team plays to his strengths and create chances.
Again, our strikers can be improved but watching out matches, we don’t miss sitter after sitter after sitter, we just don’t create enough chances. Rasmus has a good goal conversion rate, however he barely gets any clear cut chances created. The midfield offers nothing and it’s because they have no legs - just look at how Cunha was able to glide past our players recently.
We have no runners, someone able to go to the line and create cut backs or balls across the box for tap ins - it’s poor. The strikers need help.

Can't score against any good team, found his level playing against Newport County and relegation teams. His entire career is a 7 game purple patch. Completely ruined the attacking structure of the team. Bruno and Amad are creating chances for fun yet none to him. Manchester United has players on ridiculous wages who aren't good enough to wear the shirt. Even worse, they don't put in the effort. When you’re guaranteed massive paychecks no matter the performance, why would they bother? It's time to restructure the wages-lower base pay and implement win or performance bonuses to bring back the hunger.

If the present squad are not willing to give their all then replace more of them with the young talent we have in our youth teams .

ten Hag can’t be blamed when you have Bruno wasting chances over and over again. EtH was giving this group passages of play to get looks on goal and they just wouldn’t score. These players haven’t been good enough for years, the decision making, the displays of childish frustration and acting like they have no control over the outcome of the game. These players have shown time and time again how mentally pathetic they are. Overpaid and underperforming for far too long.

@@marcus8030 Yes, but it wouldn't have solved the problem that has been papered over for 4-5 seasons, up front is a graveyard shift at UTD. Hojlund isn't the finished article, but his conversion rate to shots taken is one of the highest in the league. Putting more water in a bucket with a hole in it isn't ever going to be a good way to fix the hole in the bucket. Ronaldo, Zlatan and Cavani scored despite the problem of lack of chance creation, and Kane would likely have done the same, but that means your tied to having to buy 2 of the best 4 or 5 strikers in the world just to realistically compete. Pick any random game between 2 mid table or lower teams, and they almost always have a couple of clear chances as well as the half chances, we just don't do that, even as often as ordinary teams in the league.

Get right and left footers playing on the correct wings and crossing the ball into the box. Kinda like David Beckham and Ryan Giggs used to do, then get a couple of hard decent midfielders like Byron Robson and Roy Keane in midfield. It ain't rocket science. Oh and I always knew rashford had mental difficulties cos he kep pointing at his head and not smiling when he scored... definitely a player with issues. Everytime we have a match againts whoever the opposition up there effort to make it as bad as possible that's the name of the game . United cant take the pressure there just not good enough they lose the ball there passing is useless ... playing the ball out of defence is not working goalkeeper is under stress and making mistakes . Instead they should be taking longer goal kicks up the field and putting opposition under more pressure . Side to side passing getting nowhere they are passing back to the keeper to much they have no confidence it's so frustrating to watch . United need to start playing old style football long goal kicks less pressure for me ....
