VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION, here's hoping you see this. I have search through the description rigorously, but was unable to find the 3d models of the buttons or the buttons themselves and what not you mentioned. It would greatly aid me in my own project! Thanks!
I had to put them under the video I described for taking apart the clock because youtube has a limit on words. You'll find the video link at the end of the video.
Chris Bernardo must have enjoyed your designs. it surprised me that the geiger counter was not small enough for the 3 buttons to be usable. I have considered making the 2000(not the 2000 mark VI), though I feel there may be quite a challenge to recreate since the majority of the parts are difficult to fit into a condensed shell. good luck in your 2nd recreation of the icoinic pipboy. may your progress be fruitfull. Also, I noticed you could have just put in a digital clock rather than the analog as you show example of someone doing eairly the episode. perhaps do that instead?
@@YourGeekFix , there are ways. 1st option blurry transparent material: makes the numbers appear more rounder. 2nd option: rounded transparent. @@mitchellfoxel6078 It was the speaker that comes with Geiger counter clicks preprogrammed. Only needs to be attached to a battery and it will work. That was specially made for our audience
it woud be so nice to give the klock a nother try :D Yes it will be komplicadet, and maby very expansive, But: The Pitboy is in one or oher way A very very overfechered smartwach, so the clock is the part, that maby like the geigerkounter the most important part! ;D maby you must go vor a sligtly bigger enkloser vor that, i woud not see a problem for that, a working turning ckock is it so woth it! also, the pitboy woud bekome a realy useful even when you not were it, bekaus it show you time, days and sutff, it woud be a amasing deskitem! preas, give the klock a nother go :D my atampt woud be: rubber weels that drive individualy the numberweels from behind. the motors can be more easy kontrolt by elektonik programming. also the rubber weels kan have multiple sises, to make room vor each other, so, you can use multible motors anstead komplikaded gears. But, if you use geras, make then visible. i see no reasons to hide nice cool geras ;D maby even the whatchletters it self cud be 1/6 a gear it self, so you can insteao of rubber, gear in the back to turn the letters. i think a combination of tuning from inside and from behind can you get the clock, that we want ;D
You should look into making some software to automate the Wi-Fi connection so that whilst in the Pip-Boy interface, inserting a card will start playing whatever is on it automatically
Wouldnt a Arduino be able to do a lot of that? From the Clock to the Counter to the wifi? Using a stock LCD screen wired in. I know when I was lighting some Star Trek models the Arduino was able to control everything from start up, to the flashing, to Shut down and everything in between and that was just the basic stuff. Or even a Rasberry Pi? What you built was amazing though!
The problem with the antenna is solvable. I have now built several radios here, some very small ones and some from kits (I'm a HAM), there are these mini-radios built over an Si4732 FM/AM radio chip, that is small sized and if you put that thing on board with some SMD parts, you would easily have a receiver that fits. A small AM/MW ferrite core would fit, too, well the FM plug should be external or a telescope that you just pull out. The whole thing runs from 2x1.5V batteries and the thing doesn't suck much power and runs for days on that. I mean the ready radio kit you'll get with everything for less than $5 on the internet. That's doable. Sure, you'd need your own layout, but that's not a hard one. On the other hand you got two mockup tubes in there already, throw one of them out, place a real tube, some el-cheapo Chinese 6J1 in there and copy the Franzis Verlag Audion receiver. Then it will only be playing shortwave, but that cooler anyway. With an single tube Audion you can receive AM, and CW and SSB transmissions, if you restore the carrier, which is just another little chip, the Si5153, I guess would work fine. If you generate that, you'd be able to tune in to all kind of shortwave transmissions, of course to be able to run that you then need about 6m of wires. It is wrong that you need so much wire for receiption, of course a resonant antenna is better than a non-resonant, but for reception a long wire is a good solution and only if you want to transmit on it, it becomes more difficult. We are using LW all the times here in Germany. And they start working well from 2m onwards, 6m is good, around 23m is optimal, after that you won't get any advantage, you'd been easily able to listen to all radio and amateur radio transmissions around the globe. Simple nylon coated steel wire for jewellery for $5 per 100m on the internet is working fine. We even transmit over that wire without a problem, up to 300W. Well, it's not perfect but it's thin, cheap, doesn't need heavy masts. Good job! de DL7HH
Wow! Great advice. The problem for Chris was a lack of radio stations to receive where he was. Works fine for me here in the US. Would be better if it was AM.
@@YourGeekFix You did just a great job there, I also put in a comment how to do your dials and the clock without the mechanical gear problem for cheap in your assembly clip, I just watched now. Actually the MW/AM band is quite empty now, but the shortwave band (HF) is also AM modulated and because that band propagates over the ionosphere it is not just local but more or less global or at least continental. So a shortwave receiver would give you the real feeling of world radio with strange sounds, foreign languages and all that, also shortwave radio has ionospheric distortions, which would just add fine to the feeling. I do not think that VHF/FM radio is a good solution, because the music they are playing is just awful and doesn't fit. Also it's local, as MW. So SW is it. The antenna problem isn't, because you can put a spiral wire around/inside your arm-padding, you just sew 23 meter of thin enameled wire or said nylon coated 0.35mm steel wire for $4 around. A single winding is about 30-35 cm so with about 60-70 windings you have a really strong shortwave antenna. What you want to receive is the 49m band, I guess, so 23m of wire would be perfect and resonant, but with all the capacity of your body and everything, who knows? Make it a bit longer and shorten it piece by piece until the noise level maximized, then it's perfect. Simple trick. Do the tuning with your arm inside, because it will change the induction. I'm doing things like that on a nearly daily base, while it will not work every time, mostly it does, at least as a HAM I have absolute positive experience with that. Sure, you could have a better antenna if you stretch the wire up a tree or something, but it will work fine. You have a whole lot of HF/AM shortwave radio stations in the US and EU and if you don't listen to them, you have near that the 40m HAM band, which will work, too. Contact me, if I shall help you at QRZ.com DL7HH. But it's not rocket science. I got my own channel and can make a demo setup, if you want. Just forget about MW, that's really dying, sadly. I'm not so much into props, but into tech and I'm playing with weird, cheap electronics very often (if not daily). Ready cheap HF receivers you get as a small circuit on Ali for $5 sometimes. Check ATS-20 for example. The circuit is Arduino based, completely hackable. All-band-all-mode receiver. Does even Morsetelegraphy.
Hi, for the second switch I managed to wire up the LEDs and the meter up as shown on the image, but the needle doesn't do the stutter movement, not sure why.
Try one light at a time. Positive wire from battery to the switch, switch to light. Negative light switch to positive side of the meter. Negative wire from meter to Negative side of the battery. One light might work on its own. If the jumping I'd too much, not enough variability. Try the second light in circuit.
If the switch makes the needle go up, but not bounce, add a third light or register to the circuit. Also, does attaching the battery to the meter make the needle move.
I wish I still had it in me to make my own working pip-boy but after a house fire I no longer have the tools, parts, drive or money to finish what I had started.
Use a Nintendo switch pad with touch screen then use that to make the Pip-Boy work by connecting the buttons to the phone itself and program it to work

Hi there, I had a question about how you access the on/off switch on the Blackberry. I remember in your first video you showed a piece of tubing that slid back and forth, but am I right to assume that you've changed that since the modules on that side along with the cuff are blocking access?

Hardest thing is that square and size of a screen.
No way! You took my advice from two years ago to add a Geiger counter !!

VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION, here's hoping you see this.
I have search through the description rigorously, but was unable to find the 3d models of the buttons or the buttons themselves and what not you mentioned. It would greatly aid me in my own project! Thanks!
Of course I finally find it when I post the comment...
I am curious as to what buttons those are though.
I had to put them under the video I described for taking apart the clock because youtube has a limit on words. You'll find the video link at the end of the video.
@@poptop89 also in the description for the clock video.
But I wanted it to look like the game, more retro.
@@YourGeekFix , there are ways.
1st option blurry transparent material: makes the numbers appear more rounder.
2nd option: rounded transparent. Same but take the og mold and create a mold using clear (type used to make dnd dice) resin. And slap it on top of digital clock(note make sure the digital numbers fit where the mold directs it to)
Of coarse it is OPTIONAL.
Thx for your thoughts though.

Pass a frayed multi-strand wire over 1.5v battery terminals with a small speaker directly in circuit and you'll get plenty of great-sounding clicks.

There's probably clocksmiths on TH-cam or experts like Clickspring that could get the clock to actually work with some specialized tools.
Maybe
it woud be so nice to give the klock a nother try :D Yes it will be komplicadet, and maby very expansive, But: The Pitboy is in one or oher way A very very overfechered smartwach, so the clock is the part, that maby like the geigerkounter the most important part! ;D
maby you must go vor a sligtly bigger enkloser vor that, i woud not see a problem for that, a working turning ckock is it so woth it!
also, the pitboy woud bekome a realy useful even when you not were it, bekaus it show you time, days and sutff, it woud be a amasing deskitem! preas, give the klock a nother go :D
my atampt woud be: rubber weels that drive individualy the numberweels from behind. the motors can be more easy kontrolt by elektonik programming. also the rubber weels kan have multiple sises, to make room vor each other, so, you can use multible motors anstead komplikaded gears.
It already does that. The app has settings for that.
The problem is the space.

@@YourGeekFix shit you were better off with the fitbit screen.
44:01 : haha its a fusion core from fallout 4
True
Awsome work!
Thanks man. We talked about you in one of our upcoming podcasts.
Do you have a source for the buttons you used?

@@YourGeekFix thank ya kindly
Now I need one. Thanks!
You should get one!
Can you run the "Geiger counter" and clicking speaker from the same 9V battery? And do I need any additional components that you didn't show?
Yes. The battery runs the lights in the clock and Geiger counter, the speaker, and the needle.
Hi, for the second switch I managed to wire up the LEDs and the meter up as shown on the image, but the needle doesn't do the stutter movement, not sure why.
These are flickering lights, right?
@@YourGeekFix yes
Try one light at a time. Positive wire from battery to the switch, switch to light. Negative light switch to positive side of the meter. Negative wire from meter to Negative side of the battery. One light might work on its own. If the jumping I'd too much, not enough variability. Try the second light in circuit.
If the switch makes the needle go up, but not bounce, add a third light or register to the circuit. Also, does attaching the battery to the meter make the needle move.
@@YourGeekFix when I attach the battery the needle moves up but doesn't bounce, I may have wired something wrong

Does the Geiger Counter work in sync with the Geiger counter in Fallout 4?
No.though our new app does.
You don’t need a meter that’s set for the right measurement. You do that yourself by managing the power going to it with resistors
I did. The lights have resisters. That's how it bounces.
That's so cool!
