i have experienced this song twice, and the bit you thought was a bit flat. The audience went nuts at the Roundhouse shows i was at in London . I got down alright, but getting up part was the problem😂 but the packed audience carried me up with them 😮 great fun was had by all as you said . 😁 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
You are 100% right when the spoken part in the middle reminds you of Kabuki theater. The song (and the official music video in particular) has several instances where they reference traditional Japanese culture and then break with it. The Kabuki part is one of those as well, as Kabuki is a purely male domain, all characters are traditionally played by male actors.
"Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi!“ Good reaction. Well done finding the live from Legend MM with the Kami Band intro (in order of solos Clint Tustin on bass, Chris Kelly, CJ Masciantonio on guitars and Anthony Barone on drums). I don't get how you felt it went flat after Momometal's Kabuki Theatre part - it is not about Tom Morello, he just added the guitar solos, this one is all about the crowd (maybe you just paused at the wrong moment so you didn't get the full effect and maybe the cameras didn't catch the crowd response too well in this one ... get in the crowd yourselves at that part and you won't feel that way, the crowds are going nuts!) 🤘🤪🤘 Find a clip from the side show they did in Brazil - you'll see. The song title translates as 'Metali' (or 'Metari') which is a fusion of the words metal and matsuri (Japanese summer festival). The song is about a Metal Village holding a metal festival, so they have included all the matsuri shouts everybody would be calling out as encouragement to the people carrying heavy floats etc like "Sore, Sore", "Dokoisho" and "Wasshoi!". They are inviting us all to dance - I am reliably informed there is something in the lyrics (Su sings it and it is in Momometal's kabuki section) about we are all fools - the fools who watch and the fools who dance ... so as we're all here and we're all fools why just watch, we may as well all dance. This is what Tom Morello said about this song: "I am a big fan of BABYMETAL, a band that is both power rocking and constantly surprising with dizzying musical twists and turns. I’ve been trying to work with them for some time and when they sent me the demo of METALI!! I knew I could rock that shit like crazy!" But as I said, it is not about him, this song is all about the girls and the crowd.
Good job doing the Legend-MM version, since it's superior in every aspect to any other one. And I'm not talking just about music, its the overall performance and these small moments they interacted with each other and also with the audience. I beg to differ about the final section being ... flat?? I don't know how to explain it, but I've seen it live a few tines (including this very same performance in Yokohama) and the energy there is just the best... Actually I have defined it before as "crazy" and that part is key. 🤘🦊
Super fun and energic song. Great for Live shows. You should see how the crowd went insane in Peru over this song. Sooooo When is Night Night Burn for some latin flavor? 🤘🦊🤘
Everyone is free to have an opinion about Tom Morello's guitar part, but here's Su and Moa's opinion: SU-METAL: I think it really matches the chaotic vibe that “METALI!!” has. BABYMETAL is a group that has surprised people in a “What the heck?” kind of way, and this song is like the good parts of “PA PA YA!!” and “Megitsune” combined. So I’m sure our fans will find it familiar in a way, but the vibe changes drastically in the second half and it’s like the sonic equivalent of a bucket of fluorescent colors being splashed all over the place. We thought we’d updated the BABYMETAL sound in our own way, but the addition of Tom Morello’s guitar draws out a new “What the heck?” element from it. He really is such a legend. MOAMETAL: I’ve listened to Rage Against the Machine’s albums and always thought his guitar was so cool. I’m really glad to have someone like that involved in our music, and it’s exciting to think how this collaborative circle could keep expanding like this. They liked it. I would rather they liked it and many didn't, than the other way around.
I'd have to agree with both our boys who just reacted to this song, and with you. My personal opinion is that I wasn't really that impressed with his part in the song. Not saying what he did takes no skill, quite the opposite. I appreciate the skill that is required, but to me, it didn't add much to the song. HOWEVER, even with that being said, I TOTALLY agree with your statement about it being better that the girls are happy with the results than not being happy. I'm ALSO happy, even though I'm not an audioslave/rage fan, that they got to work with Tom, along with all the other legends. It truly makes me happy that they get to work with all these people and possibly learn from them and gain the respect of these major legends, whether it's KoRn, or Metallica, or Rob Zombie, or whoever else. How many young girls their age can say they got to meet all these legends and have the legends actually like THEM as much as they like the legends?! It kind of makes me almost emotional thinking about how proud I am of these girls and what they've achieved. They deserve all the goodness they can get as far as I'm concerned.
@@jeremyboynowski3784 I'm not impressed with his solo as a guitar solo, as there wasn't anything to be impressed by. I can see why some would be dissapointed by it. But as a piece of music it blends in with the song well IMO. More like a vocal line than a solo, and somehow reminds me of those glowing lanterns or those streaming dragons you get at fetivals. I like the colour of it. I also notice in this live mix his harmonising with the vocals is more prominent, which makes me feel he was trying to join in with the vocals parts more than anything. As for the girls they are like magical elves casting enchantments werever they go lol.
Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛。I witnessed this very performance at the venue. 😍 Kami Band is an amazing squad with musical virtuosity. Chris, CJ, Anthony, 3 bassists (Clint, Ryan and Matt) have been dedicating their energy to BABYMETAL's international activities (including in Japan) long and extensive enough to be called as "our" band. They are amazing knights to protect our queen and princesses.❤ The title is a synthesized word from two words : "Metal" and "Matsuri (= festival)" → Metali. The repetitive わっしょい "Wasshoi" is a call or yell used in Japanese festival to stoke people's exhilaration and especially to fuel the power of guys who are carrying a heavy Mikoshi (神輿) on their shoulders that is a kind of a float in Western style festivals. The audience did get low at every venue in the world, because no one can resist following our Queen's direction. 😄 (Then they jump up from crouching posture like spring ejectors after Momoko's "Are you ready ?".) Momometal's extravagant elocution and moves in Kabuki style and her growl gave an amazing accent in the exciting repetitiveness. If you want to know the deep meaning of the lyrics please check Professor Hartley's channel (Andrew Hartley).
Good reaction, although it seems strange to me that they think that the breakdown had no impact on the public, both in the video and in all their current shows. It is one of the songs with which the band interacts the most with the fans.
Nice one fellas, I love this song! I did like Tom Morello’s part, and like many have said, this is the part the crowd goes nuts at. I’ll be excited to join in (for once 😂) in a few weeks! 🤘🦊
as someone who heard the kami solo live last week, I really can say metali is a magical song. Also, this is their first official recorded song with momo as a member
I remember when you did the trilogy that you were less than impressed with ‘Arkadia’. This is one of my favourite BM songs. The new version from this show (Legend MM) is stunning. Give yourself a treat. Give it a try. This 74 year old Scot was in tears.
The girls don't need to collaborate with anyone, but they take the unique opportunity they have to meet, work and maybe learn from legends that they admire. Having said that I am more than ready for a new album from them collabs are fun but I want more BABYMETAL
