How to Paint a Tree Frog on an Acrylic Ink Background.

I am currently working on a massively detailed commission based on a concept drawing that I did, and I needed to take a break and work on something small and fun. Not that the other painting isn't fun. It's just that I need to step away sometimes, do something else and come back with a refreshed perspective. So, tree frog it is!
I used a small canvas that I had tested out acrylic ink colors on, which turned out to be the perfect backdrop for the idea that had formed in my head.

Your work is AMAZING...but what is not referenced as frequently is your teaching. The time you invest generously sharing the knowledge you have amassed over decades...incredible. You lay your unique creativity on canvas as you give "want-a-be" artists, like myself, a huge toolbox. You truly want other artists to be able to actualize THEIR visions on canvas. THAT is the true LOVE of art!

Okay, Lenny is beyond cute! I have acrylic inks and could never find anything I liked using them for. Thank you for the tips, I will definitely try them for a background.
There's no way I could be in a negative mood when looking at this piece. The background colors are yummy and danceable, Leonard is precious, and it makes me laugh to see him sneaking out of the rip. I keep waiting for a painting that I don't care for, because nobody turns out hit after hit, but so far I've been happily disappointed. Got behind in my TH-cam viewing, so now I get to follow this video with your latest. My Saturday night present to myself.

@@tracytruhlarik6525 There was one very close to me yesterday, and I actually packed up art supplies in the trunk of my car and a GO bag, just in case. Took forever, though, because my back seized up last week and I can barely move. Today it smelled really smoky out there, I wore my mask on the few occasions I had to venture outdoors (the nature of living somewhere with an outhouse), but we're surviving. I think tomorrow it's due to be worse. Safe safe!

This is beautiful! I have a big project with 3 frogs that I'm intimidated by. I have little experience painting them-- none on canvas, a tiny bit digitally. This was so pleasing to watch because I relate to your technique so much.

I use to say: talent is just interest. If you like to learn and put efford in to painting, drawing, music, math...than you will have talent as well. I like your styl, this frog looks really great on that bright backround.

Love your work just found you a few weeks ago. Don’t have acrylic ink but may try this with watercolors. Have a similar frog from unsplash. Love your work keep up.

Exactly for the same reasons you mentioned. Just not worth it. We artistic souls need to look after our creative psyche...💜

I know exactly what you mean with commissions, about 10 years ago I painted Rock Punk Stars which I loved and they all sold, then I advertised I'll paint and Rock Star you like, so soneones asked for Joe Perry and sent a photo of him with his guitar, it was a slog to get it done and because it was a large painting I had to paint all the guitar strings, that became a war of attrition and I ended up hating the process, it came out good, but the journey was a bumpy one... so now I only paint what gives something to me, I paint loads of different subjects in many different styles, being true to yourself is the only way to do art otherwise it's an empty experience.

Great piece- question: Do you ever use resin to Top Coat? Or do you use Resin in your mix media ?
Hi Kelly! Generally no. I have only used resin for finishing hand painted clocks. I finish a lot of paintings with oil paint and resin and oils don't work together very well.😊
I don't mind if the drawing is not in proportion because it makes it more interesting.
