- Hello!
I have been going through a bit of artist's block lately. So, I decided to have some fun, play with colors and paint a zebra. Sometimes, I get so caught up in coming up with new ideas, that I forget to just play with paint and see what happens.
Right now, the outside world around me has been pretty colorless and blah. I find winter in the northeast to be an inspiration sucking time of year. So, I said to myself "Lydia, (which is what I always call myself) you need to play with some ridiculously vibrant colors and get out of your head!" And that's what I did. Is it a masterpiece? No... But it sure was fun to paint.
I found the reference photo on unsplash.com and the photographer is Nick Lamon. So, if you want to paint the side profile of a zebra, it's a good reference.

I keep a notebook handy, and when I'm watching TV, I think of ideas for new paintings. I rush to my notebook and write them down and then work from the list. Otherwise, I'd be paining the Italian Alps 100% of the time.......
I love watching you…all your videos are made differently. You’re not trying to sell me anything and you’re freely sharing a completely unique and fab tale, I can’t thank you enough
"It's becoming something!" That feeling...nothing like that feeling.
For me, the aqua green brings the Zebra outside like it's a super bright day on the savannah, and the pink only adds to that, making the rest of the Zebra washed out like an over exposed photo... Great effect and so well done too... Thank you as always... Oh and I know perfectly well about the 'artist block' it sometimes gets me for weeks on end and especially so at this blah time of year...
Cheers and thanks again Lydia, all the best...Neil...
Stumbled across this while browsing and Lydia, this is absolutely amazing! Love it. Thanks for sharing. 💖
Hi there Lydia, the zebra is very groovy, love it. You say you’re having a drawing block and you’re feeling the cold. I did a sketch years ago. I mean ten years plus ago and never finished it. Ive since lost the sketch. It was ment to be a tattoo design, anyway it was a cartoon big head alien in a glass dome flying saucer, it was in the the air over a corn field with its laser bean blowing up the corn and making pop corn. That would be a hot weather summer kind of thing. Just an idea for your drawing block lol! I love your creativity in your art and look forward to seeing what you come up with next.
I love your intuitive paintings. And the bright aqua green. Beautiful
Just what I needed to brighten up my day. Full summer here, in the middle of a heat have and have a nasty flu. Your funky zebra hit the spot! All my fav colors too.
I love it. I realized lately that that florescent pink and some other florescents really aren't so unatural. They just aren't our usual spectrae. I love watching this build. Beautiful:)
Thank you so much! So true about fluorescents!
I love this so much. So fun ❤ new subbie
Fellow child of the 90's here! This reminds me of a T-shirt I had back in the day. So great. Lol.

Hey Sunshine... loving this zebra! I had to take a quick look here since I haven't had time to view the longer Patreon vid yet. But now I'm really excited about seeing it!

🖤🦓🖤 Fabulous!
Love this ……… I haven’t watched you create a painting yet that I haven’t loved 😅 The story you tell about how this painting came about is fascinating, and using the aqua green really set it off. Thankyou so much for another aspiring piece of art. 🤩🤩❤️❤️
You are awesome, such an inspiration!😃

Thank you Jen! I think so too!
Beautiful, you make everything look so easy. I think I lack imagination.
Things tend to look easy when the video is edited. The reality is far more chaotic!😂
Wow love this painting , what an inspiring use of colours and texture, love how you pushed the boundaries. Beautiful.❤
Thank you!!!❤

Absolutely fabulous. 👌👌👌
Awesome zebra ❤
May I ask how did you transfer the zebra image?
What did you use to draw the lines ?
I live an a town wich has a very well known handball team it is called "zebras" (in Europe is this sport a great thing). Just to add to your "did-not-know-I-had-not-to-know-this-information-List" 😉
I love this painting!
I’m watching all your videos today I love your art! - just wondering how you are using so many strong colors in your paintings without them becoming garish?
Fabulous. Reminded me of 1960's psychedelia (without fractals), but maybe my memory is failing. Anyway, thank you for this masterclass in mixed media.
Thanks Mark! Fractals would be an intriguing addition!🤔😁
Very nice 👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻😘
Love your videos and your mixed media style. I want to try grunge look. May I ask what size rubber roller you used for the painting. Thank you for sharing. I find it so informative and inspiring.
I am measuring it now... 4 inches. Thank you! The grunge is fun!
2️⃣THINGS: 1) I’m in Wisconsin so I feel you re gloom. Supplement your vitamin D. 2) I💜your zebra. Watching it becoming was fun for my brain. Those bright colors were necessary. They’re an antidote to gloom.
I absolutely agree on all points! I take vitamin D everyday. This winter has actually been a bit better than the last. It could be because of the supplement. The colors do help to brighten the mood as well. Thank you!!!❤❤❤
@@lydiabroderick867 You’re welcome! 💜💜💜
so cool watching you 'unblock' I am going to try this too.....
I love it 🤌
I love your art style!
What do you use to transfer your sketch onto your canvas?
Thank you!!! I use either saral paper or graphite paper. Sacral if it's a dark background and graphite for lighter backgrounds.😊
❤❤❤❤
Question about your Patreon...do you provide your subscribers with the drawing of the Zebra, or did you draw directly on the canvas? Also what is the size of the canvas?
I haven't provided the drawings so far. I always show the reference photo. It's a 16x20 canvas.😊
Can you recommend an oil paint....I have never used them before, but you inspire me to give them a try @@lydiabroderick867
Did you trace the zebra image on canvas ?
What made you use the number 44 ?
Did you neutralize any colors at all In This painting?
? Did you?
Did you neutralize any colors at all?
