Thanks for taking the time to post. Because of your video and my local plumbing supply stocking a blowout gun, I was able to blow out a clog in 63 y.o. Tank today (heat went off last nite- 25deg out, 48 dog inside..brr) (I plan to replace tank it in spring). Thanks again

steve yo man nice work... i do oil heat my self but i kind of just started out i had a sludged line today the company i work for wont let us use gallo guns so i was sittin there jigger pumping it for a while and reversed the pump to blow air heard the gurgle from the tank but the pump still wouldnt pull so i put them on a 5 gallon hook up til the AM when i can get back with some fresh lines... i really didnt think those lines/90° elbows could get that clogged i appreciate all the videos you post man i have learned alot from them thank you
Good job Steve. That was one filthy oil line. These homeowners think because the boiler is working it never needs any attention! Like that CO2 blowout tool. I guess its safer than air because its inert gas. Thanks for sharing the vid man!
Interesting video. Makes me glad the only oil furnaces my family had to deal with were back in my small hometown near the Canadian border. One I remember had a slight malfunction that caused a false alarm that had Dad otherwise convinced that our house was about to burn down (can’t remember what the actual problem was, and he’s been gone a few years now), and the other filled my grandparents’ house with soot from attic on down (that one was promptly replaced with a propane unit after a good professional cleaning).
This video answers one of my questions from a while back about the fire-o-matic, which is the fuse link at the opposite end of the tension wire from the safety valve at the tank.
they don't understand that it would cost less if they would have it serviced periodically . the longer they leave it the larger the issues and the bigger the bill .
would an air compressor and a blow gun work with rubber nozzle on fuel lines? that looks kinda like my old oil burner when i first bought my house everyone in my Neiborhood seemed to have these Delco boilers i believe it was called from 1950 that were 1 size fits any house lol up to 250,000 btu mine had new burner from efm which is local in Emmaus PA I changed it a few years after moving in when i got a great deal on a boiler in kit form you had to assemble everything it was for getting down in tight basement stairways a small smith boiler was only 700 dollars on clearance sale I switched to gas 5 years later and sold oil boiler for 500 used
Blows my mind how nobody gives a rip about their oil furnace until in craps out. I'm spending my Christmas Eve taking oil lines loose & blowing gel ice out of the lines cause it's -10 today & they have no backup heat which also Blows my flipping mind.
Dealing with same kinda problem. Except my lines run correctly just like your installation. Algae has plugged my feed line. I've ran algae killer in my tank and have to blow out the feed line once awhile. Starting to think my plug is in between the valve and tank. Can I blow it back to the tank or is that valve a directional valve?
That sludge is bad, I have the same problem,so I’ve been running Kerosene in it to try to break it, I’m having more problems now, Steve do you think what I’m doing is a bad idea. THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO......NO NONSENSE 👍👍
Thanks Steve, I recently had to do the same thing but I just used compressed air to blow into tank. I freed the clog, but wont it just clog up again? this tank has a bottom mounted outlet. Don't these tanks have some sort of mesh over the outlet or an angled floor to help with clogs?
instead of reinstalling fb4 canister I would have installed a garber complete. Its a much better filter system and you dont worry about future canister leaks as entire filter is replaced at each tune up

Dwight Bennett the link belongs above the burner line this one was sometimes there right above the oil tank .

Is it acceptable to cut out a section of oil line, blow it out, and then reconnect with 2 flare connections or is that prone to leak?

you could try some sludge treatment for oil tank maybe it will help if tank is not too bad

Tank should have inspection hatch. Have to remove sludge somehow or it's still there.
