    Hey Steve, thanks to you and the other HVAC technicians on TH-cam I am on my way to my new career path of becoming a HVAC technician. So I wanted to take the time to wish you and your family a very Mary Christmas. I think it would be hilarious if you and Baby dog got matching ugly sweaters for Christmas. Lol!!!

    Great job...but how much extra is a puppy pad under burner while you work so no oil on the ground. Start adding these extras to the bill...

    Thanks, Steve! I'd checked everything else and even bought replacement filters (in transit) but never popped the pump cover. When I did the pump filter was chocked up with black goo.p I just tossed it in the ultrasonic cleaner rather than wait for the post office to deliver new ones. That explains why it works in Summer but not winter - when it gets colder the oil in the tank obviously would be much more viscous. Was looking for that exact explanation before I now it is fixed for sure! Thanks again!

    Easy job on this one. Homeowners should educate themselves enough to handle this. I service my boiler every year with filter changes and cleanings. I even replaced the nozzle this year, thanks to your videos, but I had a tech come out and set the electrodes and adjust everything for a clean burn.

    With gravity line you should have also opened up your valve flushed the line into bucket till it clears up before putting clean strainer in and sending shit right to it again!

    You need an oil bucket bub! And you should really flush your cross over from both tanks before throwing the filter back in to a cup full of stirred up junk. No wonder the strainer plugged :)

    Why are there a couple coils of oil line by the filter? I see that on some tank installs.

    • @lancelot1953
      @lancelot1953 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Hubjeep, sometimes the tank, less likely the furnace and/or something "extra" is installed or needs to be move (access to your back wall) - coils give you a bit of extra "play". Also you usually do not want to have your "tight" as it will contract/expand depending on the temperature variations. It is considered "good practice". Ciao, L

    i appreciate you sharing this invaluable procedure.
    i have a couple questions:
    1) 4:48 sound of vent whistle, that was?
    2) 10:15 what liquid did you wash the filter with?

    We got all ice out here (west of Worcester) that Saturday - you were lucky!
    My screen looked just like that a couple years back, but surprisingly it still flowed pretty good! Only reason I looked was I was changing the pump - seemed like the unit wasn't putting out the BTUs it used to. Probably due to that filter! Lesson learned that day. I'm a mechanic, not a HVAC tech! :D
    Hope you had a good Christmas, Steve. Happy New Year!

    I agree with DanF. I've learned a lot as well. Thank you. I'm having a problem, now, with priming my furnace pump. The tank is in the basement and the furnace is upstairs. It's a new pump and there is flow from the tank to the filter. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike.

    I guy I worked for had a clean burn waste oil furnace one month he didn’t generate enough oil and had to buy over 200 gallons within an hour the furnace quit working everything was plugged whatever was in the oil was so fine the filters didn’t catch it several others in the area had the same problem with the same load of oil the company pumped it out and brought clean oil couldn’t tell you how many times we still had to tear it down and flush everything that winter

    • @danf2588
      @danf2588 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They put the outlets on the bottom of the tanks now ( used to be on the end of the tank up from the bottom a bit) to prevent water accumulation from rusting out the tanks. Trouble is all the crap ends up in the oil lines.

    That looks like a build up of algae. Automotive diesel does the same thing in vehicles that don't get driven frequently (farm equipment also), and fuel treatment products from Stanadyne and others, will prevent it. Excellent job on the repair, as always!

    I had a similar problem with my volvo s80. It used two gas tanks one on each side of the car. Gas pump was not pumping gas from one tank to the other as it should. I could not figure out how my car could not run when my gas gauge read half. Nor could a general auto mechanic figure it out. Lesson learned don't buy cars with exotic systems if you can't afford them.

    Steve what's that took you used by the boiler that you hooked up to oil line was that like a little pump or something

    • @kellyr95
      @kellyr95 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      *It is a fitting that allows you to hook up a Co2 cartridge that blows out the oil line to clear it. You can see the silver Co2 cartridge he put in it at **4:40**.*

    • @arabianknight914
      @arabianknight914 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kellyr95 figured it was something like that. Similar to the condensate pipe gun w the co2 cartridges but we don't hook nothing up to the pvc it's a lil rubber gasket just secures the opening and covers it I'm getting more n more into servicing oil burners so I want to know the proper tools to have to do the right job

      furnace oil is just diesel. Here in Canada its usually dyed red for farm use or furnace oil. Regular diesel you have to pay taxes on for vehicle use.

    Crummy load of oil?

    • @AMStationEngineer
      @AMStationEngineer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed; here, in central PA, we're noticing that oil heating companies are forming conglomerations of four or five companies - for survival purposes. My neighbor complained, actually, he "spazzed out", when a dealer from 40 miles away arrived to perform his annual service. The heating oil business went to hell in 2008, when #2 fuel oil approached $5.75 per gallon; it was at that point, that many converted to natural gas or propane.

    • @mph5896
      @mph5896 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mor Cowbell sounds like an OSV would have saved the day on that one? I was thinking of installing one on mine just for that purpose. I've got a protected line, but I'm paranoid about shit like that. Heating oil is like penetrating oil and seems to want to leak if there's a way for it.
