I use 4lb Crystal Fireline to sew 99% of my stockings. The line is clear and disappears into the felt. I never see the line unless my stitches are too big. Changing threads is no usually necessary. The other thing I do is use #11 Miyuki Delica beads - silver lined - in the colors the sequins are. The clear beads supplied are not good - broken and a lot of them drilled too small for a beading needle to go through. I love the dressed up hang tag you do! Imma steal that idea! 🙂
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I used it on my first stocking kit, which I just finished and it looks so nice thanks to the lining. I’m a novice sewist but your instructions are simple and clear so even I could do it. Thank you so much.
Thank you!!! Great tutorial!! I'm finishing my first Bucilla sticking for my 6 year old daughter and knew I needed a lining since I didn't do the best stitching. This is perfect!!
The lining protects the knots and long stitches from getting broken. I have been doing beadwork for more than 50 years, and I ALWAYS use something to protect the knots. If you can, use a Fabri-fix adhesive on your knots before lining the stocking. I like fleece for lining too - it doesn't ravel.
I am ready to line my latest stocking so I revisited your helpful video. So glad I did! I had forgotten about folding down the top edge. I would have been crushed if I had ruined my perfect fat quarter. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos and many helpful ideas!!!
I’ve made so many of these when I was younger. Never lined them 😪…now making a Bucilla stocking for my great grandson. And decided my stitching on the backside needed help…..concealing them. You demonstration is soooooo helpful and your instructions are very easy to follow. TY.
Love this! I am stitching my first of three stockings and wanted to have a more finished look. This might be too ambitious, but I want to try it anyway and this made it seem easy and more manageable than I thought! Thank you!
Thanks for this video! Can you recommend a beginners sewing machine that can handle sewing the felt stockings? I would really like to try my hand at a sewing machine. Thanks!
I have a small machine that I use. It’s a New Home Janome machine. Light weight and easy to use. Comes in many different colors too. I found mine on Amazon.
@@michelleannewood ok great thank you! First stocking so don’t have all the usual supplies yet :) Your tutorials are so so helpful for newbies like me, thank you for taking the time and care to make them!
Great idea! Going on round two making them now for grandkids! Started lining them with felt but this is much nicer! Thanks 😉! Oh and what is the tiny sewing machine I spied?!
That little machine is a New Home Janome . It’s a small light weight machine I just use for lining stockings. I love it! I’ve had it for about 3 years now. Never an issue. Easy to use. I bought mine on Amazon. There are different colors too 😃
Love this video! Watching for the fifth or sixth time. ☺️. I have almost completed my Cupcake Angel stocking and I am wondering, where do you get your ideas for the fancy tabs you create? Someday would you do a tutorial on the those? Happy Stitching Michelle and thank you!🌲
Hi! Thank you for the feedback!!!💐 I did make a video on how I do my hang tabs… I think it’s on TH-cam. I’ll go check. If not I’ll upload it for you. 🙂💜
When I started making my bucilla stockings there was no such thing as the internet. And now due to the internet I see other's ideas and I love this!
That’s how it was for me too. I started in 1996. I bought embroidery books from the bookstore. That’s how I learned 🙂

Thank you for this tip, making a stocking now so plan on lining it when done. What seam allowance did you use?
Toni Burr , Hi! Seam allowance is 1/4 inch :)
Thank you. Very helpful.
Great video. Thanks for making it. Just one question. When sewing the lining together what seam allowance did you use? Thank you.
Adriana Boepple , Hi ! :) it’s an 1/8 of an inch.
Hello, I don’t know if I missed it, but what is this stocking called?!? It’s AMAZING!
It is the Let it Snow Bucilla stocking. Designed by Mary Engelbreit. It is a retired kit.

@@michelleannewood Thanks, I'll check it out!
Thank you for the tutorial! Do you also line or reinforce the hang tab?
Hi! The hang tab is 2 layers of felt.
I don’t have a sewing machine, how should I stitch together my lining pieces? Whipstitch?
Hi🙂 You can do a whip stitch or blanket stitch. I stitched linings by hand for a few years , before I had a machine. They’ve help up well.

Hi Michelle, I am in Alberta, Canada, Do you have any idea where I can order fat quarters?
Hi Elsie, I can ask around on a Facebook page I’m on. I’ll get back to you if I get an answer from someone up your way🙂
