For city folks like me, all I see is the nicely wrapped beef at the supermarket. The beef has to get there somehow. It's your ranch and you are following accepted practices. You help feed the country. We need farmers and ranchers. God bless you and your work.

For the millions of people who have never been around livestock some practices may seem harsh. Raising any type of market livestock is not a petting zoo. You have to be tough enough to do what has to be done and protect your investment. Most animals can endure procedures and recover quickly.

I really enjoy the reality you bring to the real work that goes into farming. I think it’s sad you have to take so much time to explain yourselves about your farming practices but I do appreciate you being ambassadors of agriculture. You guys are awesome. As a farm boy I can relate to everything that you do and even code words like “chore clothes”. I can appreciate the prom story as I’ve had plenty of times my dad would look at me from coming home and tell me to get my chore clothes on. No other words had to be spoken as long as I got those clothes on as quick as I could and busted tail all day long.

All you ranchers and farmers who post videos are doing us a great service; you are teaching us where our food comes from, what it takes to produce it, and the hard work involved. It is so easy for people to gripe about what they think is right and wrong with what you do and just get on a keyboard and gripe away. You remove the horns and people gripe; you leave them on and people gripe. I have an idea; just remove one horn and shut everybody up. Keep up the good work. I love your videos and always look forward to the next one.

    Fantastic and informative video!
When I was twelve or thirteen, (I am 59 yo now) we had a large animal vet. friend that took me on his normal and emergency weekend calls. I helped deliver twin calves once, (and also a breech, which was bad). He had me reach in to feel the calve's legs and where the heads were oriented for a good birth. It was a wonderful learning moment for me that I will never forget. He helped me learn about how life works. He also de-horned several cows while I watched. I realized then, that there is nothing glamrous about raising cattle.
Cheers and Happy New Year to the Sonny Farms Family!!

There are alot of people that don't under stand about horns. almost all of your dairy herds do away with horns when the calves are young. When I had my oxen and go to fairs people would say look at the girl cow because they had horns ,would have to say no there bulls the horns are to help keep the yoke on when going down a hill it doesn't slip over there heads. And instead of using the powder the vet took barn cob webs and wrapped it around the horn when it shelled the outer shell . Great video keep them coming.

What they're saying about the horns, they're probably talking about deer and antlers. They cool with they're antlers because of more surface area, and thats why in winter they shed their antlers to get rid of that surface area that is cooling them.
But yeah for cattle, I dont know about that, like you said they sweat and its not that much surface area.

I start cavin the first part of March, can be cool, but NO flies. I keep a small bottle of Doc Naylors paste warm in my pocket, any button I see smaller than 3/4" on a calf 4 days plus I use my sharp pocket knife to cut it to the hair line and give it a smear. I keep my bands warm in my mouth and double band. Less than 1% require any attention when it come to branding time mid May. You're not about to jeopardize your animals well-being or your operation, let those comments slide off and into the pit where they belong! Cheers, all the best to you and yours in the new year. I grew up on a farm in southern MN. I seldom stayed out late in High School because my dad would always get me up earlier depending on how late I stayed out. He would never complain or criticize, just if you stayed out late, get up early. Stay out really late (like after midnight), get up at 4:30AM and do some really crappy job like shovel manure out the young-stock barns. I can remember barfing on the tractor wheel spreading manure at 5:00 am. Really a good system to keep your kids self-regulating.

But sad to see dehorning without any form of painkiller !! When i was taught at college we would inject into the temple each side before debudding as we called it, and it was always done when calves were young.

There’s always going to be instigators. It’s important for people to see where their food comes from. If they don’t believe it’s right, that’s their belief. That’s the beauty of this country!

The type of person who would have an issue with removing horns from your livestock are the same kind of people who tout pictures of injured animals on the farm and claim that raising cattle is unnatural and cruel. You just can't win. Do what's right for your critters, at the end of the day those people wouldn't last till lunch on the feed lot. You know what they say; 'If you wouldn't accept their advice, don't accept their criticism.'

I love watching your videos. I grew up on a working farm, and we had a small heard of black angus. I remember one of the cows had a calf and my brother got in the pin to check and make sure it was ok, the mother didn’t like him being so close and buckled him right over the feed manger. Glad she didn’t have horns

Im a city folk and never knew this was a thing. Just stumbled on this video. Closest I’ve ever come to this is clipping my dogs toenails. Farmers and ranchers know their trades and i think its best to leave them to doing their good work. It seem to be hard work and most Americans eat well because of it. I tip my hat to them and the makers of the video.

I don’t think it’s inhumane to dehorn but they should have pain relief. They do feel it. Some country vets are wrong when they claim otherwise.

As a farmer's son and having grown up on farms for all of my 27 almost 28 years, I have never heard off horns on the cattle helping with heat regulations. If anyone tells you that, then they don't know much about farming or they're talking out of where the good lord split them...... And that's all I gotta say about that.
P.S. love the videos they are really entertaining and hilarious. Keep up the awesome work.

Hi Guys 🙋🏻‍♂️ Good video 👍🏻 Congrats on the new Sonne joining the world. Unfortunately there are jobs on the farm that are not like able by the farmer doing them or the ppl that see them done. But it’s part of farming . Over the years I’ve heard ppl talking about farmers and ranchers on how can they do that to animals . The funny thing about it is that when I’ve heard them talking it’s been while they were dinning out eating steaks . I always thought that one should never complain about farmers when ur eating because more then likely everything ur eating came off a farm somewhere and if it didn’t you probably shouldn’t be eating it !
