Just came back from doing Pinnibar. We went from Geehi to Pinnibar down to Wheelers. I have to say, those cars you met as you were going down weren’t joking. That section of track on the Pinnibar track is a very technical drive. Did it 12 months ago and this was a hundred times as challenging. Fun but challenging.
Yeah. I drive it a year ago nearly to the day. Was pretty interesting then, I’m keen to hit it again after one of my swings on the Snowy Hydro on the way home. You dropping an episode on the track? I did Pinnibar going the other way a few years back on my first trip to the High Country. This brought back some fond memories. Great to see you back out on the tracks Gav👍

Outstanding. Another great video, thanks for sharing and taking the time to make these outstanding videos, capturing the beauty of our amazing Australian country. I can see the amount of work that goes into making these videos. I really hope that you get as much enjoyment from producing these videos as we do watching them. Just spectacular. Thank you 🙏
Thanks Claudio, I love filming them, not so much the editing, but I do get a lot of enjoyment from seeing the comments from people who have watched the videos and get some enjoyment out of them, even more so when they message me saying that I’ve inspired them to get out and go to the places I’ve been too. That’s what’s it’s all about for me. Thanks for your continued support and kind words. 👍🏼
Cheers Craig, appreciate the Sub, thumbs up and the comment 👍🏼 Glad you enjoyed it, great country up here in the hills, I never tire of it ! Thanks for watching 🍻👍🏼
Good stuff mate. Well driven going up too, ya did it easy. Those ruts sure looked deep. Was looking forward to the drone shots up the top, didn't disappoint either. That drone shot pulling back from the trig and the troopy was gold.👍👍👍 Looking forward to the next one. Cheers, BB.
Cheers Bobby B, didn’t get as much drone content as I would have liked, was covering some k’s and a lot of camera setups, was more concerned at getting to camp at a good time. Yeah pretty deep them ruts but once you walk the line it’s pretty easy to drive them. Thanks for watching mate 👍🏼
Cheers mate, love that area as it’s always so much quieter then over Dargo - Licola way. It’s a lot of hard work, but it is what it is, that’s how I want to film. Think it’s a better viewing than all in car footage. Thanks for the support. 👍🏼
They’re pretty handy bit of kit that’s for sure, reckon it will get a bit of a working out that firepit. Thanks for watching and taking the timeout to comment. 👍🏼
Some very spectacular footage Gav, Really appreciate the angles you get in your vids and the mighty effort you go to to get it right!. l reckon the scenery up there nearly rivals Blue Rag, looks like on a clear day you could see forever! Looking forward to the next part of this trip, love around Tom Groggin and certainly don't get there as much as l would like, your vids certainly compensate for not being there. Thanks mate.
Thanks for the kind words Lee. Might have to put your name in the side of the troopy after how many mentions you get in the next episode. 🤣🤣 The salt was a winner, never got a cramp for the next 5 days. It is beautiful country, the views from Gibbo out do Pinnibar I reckon, but it’s the drive that makes it better then Blue Rag, more challenging and less people. Hope it stays that way also. Thanks for your ongoing support. Cheers 🍻
What beautiful views and seeing the trees with so much new growth. That camp site was awesome looks like a great place to stay. Thanks again for sharing with us.
Thanks Anne. Great camp spot there at Wheelers Creek Hut and the hut itself is bloody awesome, a credit to those who rebuilt it. Views are always awesome up in the VHC, just need to get out of the drivers seat occasionally to take them all in. 🤦🏽👍🏼 Thanks for your continued support.
Great video Gav. Before you even said it - I was empathising about the effort and mucking around to make that montage on the way up Pinnibar. Love the drone work, and what must be an insta360? When you do the slow pan with the vehicle driving passed camera, is that the insta360 and then you crop the pan in the edit? I think making the decision to stop and walk is important, basically essential if solo travelling. That 1m rut you pointed out I think is the exact spot Pat Callinan dropped his ute into coming down. Keep up the great work.
Hey Dan, thanks mate for watching. Busy times being a dad and a TH-camr mate. 👍🏼 Nah … all GoPros mate, don’t run any Insta gear. Just set cameras up to they meet and then past both and use the Ken Burns effect on Final Cut Pro. Not sure if all editing programs run it ? Yeah. I do walk the tracks a lot more when I’m solo, always pays to be sure what you’re tackling I reckon. Old Pats episode was a disaster, old mate that ruptured the the fuel tank should have his license taken off him, that was some of the worst driving I’ve seen. 🤦🏽 You heading up that way with Jase soon?
Crackin episode Gav, really enjoyed this one as i was in the area about a month ago. I did the first section of pinnibar from the Corryong side but those ruts in the next bit scared the shit out of me as i was on my own also. Its intimidating standing there looking up and how deep they are knowing one mistake and they will swallow my car lol so i psyched myself out and turned back so ya got bigger balls than me mate. Looked like you did it easy in the end though. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks Damo, reckon you might of done the right thing, by the sounds of it the other side going to Tom Groggin aren’t any better then the last time I drove them, I actually avoided it and went to Mt Gibbo instead. Didn’t want to be seen winching downhill !! 🤦🏽🤣🤣 Mt Gibbo was a good enough drive in itself. It should make for a good episode, and a cracking little campspot at the end of it. Thanks for watching mate and taking the timeout to comment. 👍🏼
Cheers Jase, it sort of points itself up the tracks, I’m just a passenger. 🤦🏽🤣🤣👍🏼 Gibbo wasn’t to bad, didn’t take on the big rock step, might have to go back again and drive it I reckon. 🤷🏼👍🏼 Thanks for watching mate. 👌
@@OffTheBeatenPathAus straight up the guts now and then left of the big rock step. But I reckon you’ll eat it up with the cruiser. Was a big rock floating around the front of it, which put me off. You’ll see a MUX and a Nav take it on in my next episode.
Mate nothing wrong in feeling nervous about going solo. At least you do it, I flat out refuse to go solo on a 4WD track. As far as camping is concerned I'm yet to jump over that hurdle of solo camping, my only fear is running into a nutcase whilst solo camping.
You soon get use to it being solo. It can be scary at night alone with the noises in the bush, a few extra whiskeys normally helps me sleep through most things 🤣🤣 When on the tracks I actually think of the consequences if I come unstuck, which sometimes has me second guessing myself. But I have a fair idea what the troopy is capable of, the old girl surprises me sometimes how easy it can do it. 👍🏼 It’s actually character building going solo I reckon. Cheers for watching and commenting Steve 🍻
Chers Alan. Next one should be pretty good taking on Mt Gibbo with more views and a great little camp spot. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 👍🏼
Thanks mate, yeah some people might say it’s overkill the 2 fires, but I love the idea. Scenery is spectacular at that elevation. Pity I was up there this weekend. Would be seeing snow up on top of Mt Kosciusko. Thanks for the support 👍🏼
Hey mate love your channel, only found it a couple week ago, so went and did mckillops bridge and the Deddick over Easter after watching your vid, I did pinibar and geehi a few years ago but keen to get back there, hope to catch up on the track some day 👍👍
Thanks Shane… how good is MacKillops Bridge. I can’t get enough of it. I’m still to drive Deddick, the conditions have never been right when I’ve been in the area. Hopefully soon.👍🏼 Definitely have to drive Pinnibar if you like a good track, tricky coming up from Tom Groggin side at the moment. Shout out if you see me for sure. Always like having a chat and a beer 👍🏼
Yeah that’s it mate. I just find I’m always stopping for a nerves piss 🤦🏽🤣 but once you’re up and running it’s normally all good. Thanks for taking the time out to watch and comment mate, means a lot. 👍🏼
Hey, thanks for watching. Best vehicle you can have I reckon for touring our great country. I’ve started fishing for trout but not having much luck to tell the truth. I normally fish from a boat, so struggling off the banks. I need to put more time into it, but at the moment it’s more about the content for me.
Thanks, you been up that way yet. Seen a few videos up in the VHC, but don’t remember seeing this area? Need to get up there if you haven’t? It’s bloody awesome country. Cheers 👍🏼
Thanks mate, it’s definitely an awesome part of the world. Even better that it’s a lot quieter than most of the other spots in the VHC. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@aguyandhistroopy Yeeah would be. Ive been up Dartmouth but not that high up on the right of it where Mt Pinnabar is. Might have to plan a trip up that way. Are all the tracks open all year round or are there seasonal closures due to snow season etc?
Looking forward to watching your high country vids. Looks like such a great spot. Can’t wait to get there myself. Watching others do it in the meantime!
Thanks Wesself, appreciate you taking the time to watch them. It’s a magical spot, so many awesome places, points of interest, and views that go on forever. You will love it when you do get down here. 👍🏼
Really enjoyed your video bala, really raw and honest , but by geez you must have been in and f that truck a lot ! Can I ask did you sustain any punctures on that run at all ? It looked fairly scrabbly in parts. I run an old ex ambulance troopy , great rigs ! Stay well , safe travels and be cool ,
Yeah mate it comes with the job, pretty sure I spend more time running cameras than I do driving past them. 🤦🏽🤣 But if I want that sort of content that’s just the way it has to be, makes for a long slow day on the tracks. Nah … no punctures for years for me to tell the truth ( touchwood ) Thanks for the support and taking the time to comment. 👌
Think you might have missed the boat mate, I’m 99percent sure it’s a seasonal closure, even though it’s not showing it is in the Vic Parks website. Everything around it is, like Mt Gibbo, Mt Anderson and Tom Groggin. Might pay to do some research to save a lot of wasted effort. Be a wild track in a few weeks if they get more rain and snow, be un driveable I’d reckon. Cheers for watching 👍🏼 www.parks.vic.gov.au/-/media/project/pv/main/parks/documents/get-into-nature/safety-in-nature/seasonal-road-closures/seasonal-road-closures-2024/seasonal-road-closure-list-2024.pdf?rev=5728748fde64400eb9942fe6be37e246
You have to use the media mod on for them to work, I broke the little cold shoe adapter ( very fragile and fiddley ) and have never really tried to use it again. I should as I hate the wind noise, but I just can’t be bothered some times with it all 🤦🏽
Cheers Mate. Just before Easter mate. Would have been a Pizza I reckon. I don’t do much more than pies, pizza and chicken pieces to tell the truth. Only use it for lunches… otherwise I wouldn’t eat. Cheers for watching and the comment 👍🏼
Saw you at Woolies today but did not catch up with you. Really enjoy your posts and always looking forward to the next one. Laurie Marlin in Bairnsdale
One of my best trip ever but I will be back just a beautiful part of the country. I didn’t get to see everything this time but good excuse to come back
Love the ol’ foot on the throttle as you kick over the troopy key mate lol 🤣👌 Wicked episode Gav , look forward to rest of the trip. 👍 Having just re- watched a few of your earlier vids, your production quality has come a long way mate 💪 Don’t think I ever asked you before: what’s the troopy’s motor setup mate? 1hz? what turbo? 3” exhaust and HPD top mount by the looks of it? Has it been dyno tuned? Keep up the great work mate. James
Lmao, need that bit of soot for the start up. Cheers James, well it’s been a few years now I’d hope it’s slowly improving. Yeah, 1hz with a denco turbo running 10psi, with HPD top mount and 2.5” exhaust. Its was dyno when it was installed but had the injectors and pump replaced, and also internals replaced with turbo spec components ( 1HDT ) to make it more suitable for the turbo since the tune. Plan on 3” exhaust to drop the EGT’s and a new 78 series radiator keep the old girl a bit cooler, then I might put it back on the Dyno and give it a bit more fuel 🤷🏼🤦🏽 Thanks for dropping back and checking the channel out again. 👍🏼
@@aguyandhistroopy haha nothing like a bit of soot for the old oilers! Wicked setup mate, definitely 3” and throw the muffler while you’re there 🤣💪. Nice that you’ve done motor internals to 1hdt, did you rebuild the motor at that time or? Good I see a for the 78 rad too, especially if it’s a direct fit.
content is really nice mate and doing all the camera set up solo is a top effort, stunning views mate - like my bus I see the troopy hasn't got a functional handbrake either, any thoughts on a remedy?
Cheers Steve, it’s hard work all the setup but that’s the content I’m looking for. I pay for it in the next episode. 🤦🏽 My handbrake works a charm, it’s the older style which works of the rear drum brakes, I just adjust them before I take off on a trip… more then comfortable to rip the handbrake on and walk off with it still running on a steep hill, than might change after 3 days of solid 4wding and filming. 🤣🤦🏽
Just curious when this was filmed ? I am heading that way in a couple of weekends time and some of the washed out sections might make things interesting as far as how long it will take to get around some of these tracks. My mate who will be coming along is hell bent on getting to the top of Pinnibar.. even if common sense may say it's not the best idea 😀
Week before Easter. The sections that will bring you unstuck will be coming from Tom Groggin to Pinnibar. Just a section a few hundred metres long. I did an episode last year which will show this section, it’s not a great deal different now. Well ruts are prob another foot deeper. 🤣🤦🏽
Not really mate, but they aren’t as top heavy as they look. Its funny, if you not on the low side it don’t feel as bad, but it still scares me. 🤦🏽 Thanks again for watching mate. 👍🏼
Nice video, been a while since I’ve done Pinabar. Come around if you come through Jindabyne for a chat and a beer, we’re building our rig to go on a few trips, not sure it’ll get up Pinabar but I’d love to give it a go
Thanks Zeke, what are you building mate? … anything is possible mate, don’t need all the bells and whistles to get to must places, they might help to get to Pinnabar from your side of the hill though 🤦🏽🤣 Did the Blue Waterholes just the other week, bloody awesome stuff. Took me hours to walk to the falls, looking forward to editing the video.

Great to see another one of your videos up.
Looking forward to the next part and especially Blue Waterholes.
Blue Waterholes was spectacular… hope I done enough to capture it.
Thanks for tuning in and watching 👍🏼
Subscribed, thumbs up AND left a comment. Appreciate the effort mate, love seeing the high country 👏
Cheers Craig, appreciate the Sub, thumbs up and the comment 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it, great country up here in the hills, I never tire of it !
Thanks for watching 🍻👍🏼
Far out! your best editing and production ever!!
Thanks Keith for your kind words mate, maybe a little to kind mate. lol.
👍🏼🤣
Bloody hell mate - did I see lots of water in bottles?????? 😁😁😁😁
Yeah mate. Whole block of them 🤦🏽
Trying to keep some fluids up to stop
the cramps. But no point having them if you don’t drink them ! 🤷🏼🤣
Fantastic country, what a great trip
I really appreciate the effort that goes into solo filming
Your a real trooper mate 👍👍👍
Cheers mate, love that area as it’s always so much quieter then over Dargo - Licola way.
It’s a lot of hard work, but it is what it is, that’s how I want to film. Think it’s a better viewing than all in car footage.
Thanks for the support. 👍🏼
How good are those fire pits, been rocking one now for 5 years (different brand) and it’s till smashing it. Love the vids! Keep em coming legend 🤙
They’re pretty handy bit of kit that’s for sure, reckon it will get a bit of a working out that firepit.
Thanks for watching and taking the timeout to comment. 👍🏼
Great to see ya out n about ole mate top stuff as usual 🍻
Thanks mate, i love being out on the track, so much fun, well minus the cramps. 🤦🏽
Cheers for watching 🍻🍻👍🏼
Was ment be on that moto trip with Cameron and the boys. Been watching your vids for a while now. Bugger i didn’t get to have a beer and a yarn.
Hey Troy, spewing mate, good bunch of lads, enjoyed the few beers I had with them that night.
Cam’s a top bloke, very loud, but a classic. 🤣🤣👍🏼
I put Camo onto your vid’s so we could see what the tracks where like. Good honest vids with no B/S. Hopefully catch you down there one time mate!
The salt was a winner, never got a cramp for the next 5 days.
It is beautiful country, the views from Gibbo out do Pinnibar I reckon, but it’s the drive that makes it better then Blue Rag, more challenging and less people. Hope it stays that way also.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
Cheers 🍻
@aguyandhistroopy haha that's hilarious Gavin, keep that troopy pristine mate, no adulterating it! LOL
Look forward to content of next episode! 😁
Thanks for your continued support.
Nah … all GoPros mate, don’t run any Insta gear.
You heading up that way with Jase soon?
Awesome video. A little scary when alone. Travel Buddy is the best companion 😋
Thanks mate, yeah true about being solo, but definitely will make you a more confident 4wder over time.
How good is the Travel Buddy. 👍🏼
Thankyou for what you show us. I love it and appreciate it.
You more than welcome, appreciate you taking the time out to watch and leave a comment Lisa. 👍🏼
Nice one mate. You do a great job piloting that rig. Can't wait to see the Gibbo section!
Cheers Jase, it sort of points itself up the tracks, I’m just a passenger. 🤦🏽🤣🤣👍🏼
Gibbo wasn’t to bad, didn’t take on the big rock step, might have to go back again and drive it I reckon. 🤷🏼👍🏼
Thanks for watching mate. 👌
@@aguyandhistroopy even the bypass was pretty ripped up when I was last there. Heading that way soon though so guess I'll find out 🙂
@@OffTheBeatenPathAus straight up the guts now and then left of the big rock step. But I reckon you’ll eat it up with the cruiser. Was a big rock floating around the front of it, which put me off. You’ll see a MUX and a Nav take it on in my next episode.
@@aguyandhistroopy sounds good look forward to it!
It can be scary at night alone with the noises in the bush, a few extra whiskeys normally helps me sleep through most things 🤣🤣
When on the tracks I actually think of the consequences if I come unstuck, which sometimes has me second guessing myself. But I have a fair idea what the troopy is capable of, the old girl surprises me sometimes how easy it can do it. 👍🏼
It’s actually character building going solo I reckon.
Cheers for watching and commenting Steve 🍻
Another great episode mate, spectacular scenery, looking forward to part two…….safe travels 🍺🍺
Chers Alan. Next one should be pretty good taking on Mt Gibbo with more views and a great little camp spot.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 👍🏼
Another Great Episode. Love the double fire. One for warmth, the other to cook on. The scenery is magnificent. Thanks for posting this.
Hopefully soon.👍🏼
Definitely have to drive Pinnibar if you like a good track, tricky coming up from Tom Groggin side at the moment.
Shout out if you see me for sure. Always like having a chat and a beer 👍🏼
Another quality video my friend. Keep them coming
Thanks Jim, appreciate you taking the time out to watch it mate. 👍🏼
I know what you mean about track nerves. Every time, but once your on the way they settle down.
Yeah that’s it mate. I just find I’m always stopping for a nerves piss 🤦🏽🤣 but once you’re up and running it’s normally all good.
Thanks for taking the time out to watch and comment mate, means a lot. 👍🏼
Awesome video mate, great videoing and great editing. A credit to you.
Thanks Greg. Always good to get some positive feedback. Glad you enjoyed it mate. 👍🏼
Years ago I got my Chrysler sigma up there, the track to the top had just been formed up by a dozer.
@@tomtj460 that’s a fair effort 👍🏼There are only really a few parts that are challenging… be a bit more difficult these days.
Hey mate
Enjoy the channel
We also have a troopy
Wondering if you do any fishing or see many fish in the creeks and rivers you traverse
Fantastic video mate!👍👍👍🇦🇺
Thanks Alan. 👍🏼
Awesome scenery. A great little adventure pal, appreciate the content.
Thanks, you been up that way yet. Seen a few videos up in the VHC, but don’t remember seeing this area?
Need to get up there if you haven’t?
It’s bloody awesome country.
Cheers 👍🏼
Not yet mate. But this vid has made me keen to see it next time I am down VHC.
Grreat camera work and awesome part of the country 🤙
But if I want that sort of content that’s just the way it has to be, makes for a long slow day on the tracks.
Nah … no punctures for years for me to tell the truth ( touchwood )
Thanks for the support and taking the time to comment. 👌
Heading up in a coupla weeks, great vid mate 👍
Think you might have missed the boat mate, I’m 99percent sure it’s a seasonal closure, even though it’s not showing it is in the Vic Parks website. Everything around it is, like Mt Gibbo, Mt Anderson and Tom Groggin.
Might pay to do some research to save a lot of wasted effort.
Be a wild track in a few weeks if they get more rain and snow, be un driveable I’d reckon.
Cheers for watching 👍🏼

Thanks Gav iv been having problems with mine might go have a look at that 👍
You have to use the media mod on for them to work, I broke the little cold shoe adapter ( very fragile and fiddley ) and have never really tried to use it again.
I should as I hate the wind noise, but I just can’t be bothered some times with it all 🤦🏽
Another unreal trip Gav. I’m slowly getting through all of em 😂
I’ve really gotta get down that way so ya can show us around!
@@OutNAboutAustralia be my pleasure, if that diesel heater goes alright best you be bringing it down. 🤷🏼👍🏼

Great video Gavin. Just a couple of questions. What time did you do the track? What was in the travel buddy? 😄
Cheers Mate.
Just before Easter mate.
Would have been a Pizza I reckon.
I don’t do much more than pies, pizza and chicken pieces to tell the truth. Only use it for lunches… otherwise I wouldn’t eat.

True mate. Could to catch up with you in the track. Sounds like you had a great time, until South Basalt ! 🤦🏽
One of my best trip ever but I will be back just a beautiful part of the country. I didn’t get to see everything this time but good excuse to come back

Cheers PK, thanks for tuning in and watching and supporting the channel. I truely appreciate it. 👍🏼
Love the ol’ foot on the throttle as you kick over the troopy key mate lol 🤣👌
Wicked episode Gav , look forward to rest of the trip. 👍
Having just re- watched a few of your earlier vids, your production quality has come a long way mate 💪
Don’t think I ever asked you before: what’s the troopy’s motor setup mate? 1hz?
Plan on 3” exhaust to drop the EGT’s and a new 78 series radiator keep the old girl a bit cooler, then I might put it back on the Dyno and give it a bit more fuel 🤷🏼🤦🏽
Thanks for dropping back and checking the channel out again.
My handbrake works a charm, it’s the older style which works of the rear drum brakes, I just adjust them before I take off on a trip… more then comfortable to rip the handbrake on and walk off with it still running on a steep hill, than might change after 3 days of solid 4wding and filming.
Bloody hell those Troopys love to lean i suppose you get used to it.
Not really mate, but they aren’t as top heavy as they look. Its funny, if you not on the low side it don’t feel as bad, but it still scares me. 🤦🏽
Thanks again for watching mate. 👍🏼
What type of mic are you using trooper
Just the GoPro mic, have purchased the DJi mic’s but haven’t used them yet. 🤦🏽
Where did you camp in shorts at start of video mate
Wheelers Creek Hut mate. It’s on the western side of Pinnibar. Great spot, fair bit of space, level ground and drop toilets.
Nice video, been a while since I’ve done Pinabar. Come around if you come through Jindabyne for a chat and a beer, we’re building our rig to go on a few trips, not sure it’ll get up Pinabar but I’d love to give it a go
Thanks Zeke, what are you building mate? … anything is possible mate, don’t need all the bells and whistles to get to must places, they might help to get to Pinnabar from your side of the hill though 🤦🏽🤣
Did the Blue Waterholes just the other week, bloody awesome stuff.
Took me hours to walk to the falls, looking forward to editing the video.
