Thanks for the review. Full Moon's first release of TRANCERS on DVD was sourced from the laserdisc. They even left in the "End of Side B" screen.

Love the Full Moon and Empire flicks. Great fun and a real throwback to the VHS rental days. Plus I love the comic book vibe of these films.
The 4K looks better to me. The colours are less saturated.
Who would've thought there would be a day when there are multiple HD releases of "Trancers"?

great review, full moon had a sale for halloween. i picked up Trancers 4k for under $24.00. i have not watched it yet, but loved the movie when i rented it on VHS many years ago. i hope it still holds up for me. you are right, i have had 2 full moon blu rays where they sent replacement discs. their quality control has been an issue.

Love the video! New subscriber here. Question: Hunting down older, better transfers/color timing, copies of potentially out of print discs... Is this our future as consumers of boutique physical media? When I drop $25-$60 on a new 4K, I expect it to be the best version to date. IDK, food for thought.
Judging by the screenshots, it looks like the 4K color timming opted to crush the whites (i.e the sand in the beach scene) which to me makes the image muddier, on the other hand the bluray seems to suffer from a red hue in the midtones, that's why neon lights look more vibrant but make the skin tones look like everyone has a sunburn. In the 4K the skin tones look more accurate in my opinion, but I'm no fan of this new trend of underexposing everything to the point when a sunny day scene looks like it's 7 pm.
Thank you for the review, Heath! I really like the Trancers franchise overall. It's cheesy fun. I don't think I will ever own a 4k from Full Moon though-just don't see the need with their flicks.
This movie was released on VHS rental as the title Future Cop not Trancers in Australia. The same with the Gung Ho movie. It was retitled Working Class Man because Aussies didn't know what Gung Ho meant.
It's one of my favorite Christmas movies and I'm looking forward to comparing it to the blu-ray but will probably wait until its on sale.

Blu-ray was marketed back in 2006 as Brighter picture but directors and cinematographers mostly hated the bright picture. 4K yes
This, exactly. Too many young 'uns are considering Blu-rays to be the standard for how a movie should look, which is why they're so upset when cinematographers grade 4Ks differently from Blu. Not that some 4Ks don't have revisionist color timing, but it's not that simple.

I love trancers. Its one of my favorites too. It was shown in movie theaters back in the earlier 1980's hopefully it looks good in 4k.

I only recently watched Trancers or it had been so long I had no memory of it. At that price I'm passing on the 4k since I have no nostalgia for it. I did just pre order Roadhouse 4k from VS. Hoping for a solid disc since it was also $50
Bummer news, jack. Tell me how the creators of the movie meant it to look - then, not today. Otherwise, let's start using the term "remaster" for these reissues as used in the music world where the CD or vinyl record reissue is degraded, upgraded, changed, reinterpreted, or as my betters love to to say, "reimagined." I too prefer the original blu-ray. Why not just repress the original blu-ray and include it in the new release? That would have been the better play. In any event, this issue will continue and we'll keep on buying.
To think they just scheduled trancers 5 to be released on blu ray by the end of this month leaving only the Trancers 6 (Non of the original cast or crew are asotiaded with 6) without a blu ray edition. The trancers 5 release is already available at full moons web site but not anywhere else yet
Just get the 2014 Blu ray of Trancers and move on 👍😁
I have felt this way about several blu-ray to 4K transfers. I much prefer the color timing for the blu-rays of Lord of the Rings to the 4ks newish color timing.
Nothing wrong with having preferences, especially when it comes to color timing. They almost always mess with it to some extent when doing a transfer to a new format. The newest isn’t always the best IMO, especially when blu-rays already look damn good on most people’s setups.
I really need to see Trancers, I’ve had the blu for quite a while now, but haven’t watched it yet.
Heath, who makes the Blu-ray version that you have? It is kind of difficult to get certain copies of it on Blu-ray.

Love Trancers. Originally got on dvd and then upgraded to the excellent blu ray. Not sure the 4K is needed and as stated, expensive as well.
Maybe it’s just me but the 4k looks more natural
Speaking of B movies, I'd like to see a 4k release of Cherry 2000 (1987) Tim Thomerson's in that one too.
I enjoyed Cherry 2000. It was a much better movie than the usual low-budget movies in the 1980s.
Love Trancers, I hope they cleaned up the boom mike from one scene.
