Well it from what I’ve learned/heard…rollo gave a new home to some north people in Normandy. So I don’t count as betrayal but rather that a person went his own way, wanted to fabricate his own future.I still like Rangnar more than Rollo
@@meriemcullen8510 Idk....Maybe Because the earlier seasons felt more authentic and the actors look and felt more medieval; later seasons got more "Hollywood" with a bunch of modern looking and sounding actors; and don't think I'm the only one who thinks like this, clearly with the likes but Michael Hirst also deserves alot of criticism for the later seasons......he keeps repeating the same stories and so many things happen with no meaning behind it.

I believe that Rollo joined Jarl, not because he wanted to betray Ragnar, but he wanted to do something himself, other than staying under Ragnar's shadow. They were perfect as brothers and I wish it would have been great of it had remained like that.

Yea but Ragnar wasn’t king at this point he was just a jarl. He barely had anything. He had 1 town and disputed land all around him. How this happened was a land dispute with the “king” Ragnar eventually killed. Rollo knows this. He knows Ragnars situation is fragile. He might be famous but he’s too famous. Hell rollo probably could have been given land and been a jarl, after Ragnar became king but he was inpatient. Hell rollo probably could have lead the great heathen army but he betrayed Ragnar and moved to France. Ragnar probably would have never killed himself if rollo didn’t betray him.
Rollo knew how to play the game, his relationship with Sigi showed him that true power could be wielded from the shadows, he was a monster of a warrior in a fight but struggled of the field to find his purpose, His prowess in battle drew Frankish attention and Gisela to him and for all her protestations she was in awe of him, thier marriage gave Rollo a purpose and a fight and despite everything he was always a true warrior at heart.
And one thing people don’t understand once you find your self in an opposing viewing to your family how do you handle that🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️there only two ways either both come to a compromise which usually never happens but either you live your family and continue on your path or they live and you continue on that path. That’s why many people keep staying in the shadows of family and alleging their values with their family

Although it is true that the reason ragnar could rise so fast was because of his brother, once he left his side things started to go bad for him. The brotherly bond between Rollo and Ragnar could have been repaired, but it seems too late now, as Rollo betrayed Ragnar not once, but twice. It's incredibly frustrating and disappointing. 🤦♂️

I think there is no justification for all what Rollo did, however he is still one of my favourite characters somehow, maybe because of Clive Standen´s amazing job, or the physical resemblance I share with him, or some of his struggles I can relate myself with. Also, I´m surprised by the fact that I´ve never seen anyone mentioning Rollo falling in love with Gisla as the main reason for his betrayal. Before the Franks came after the battle with the offer, the bear and the princess already shared some cool scenes during the fight while she was on the battlements and making contact visual with him. I truly believed Rollo just met the love of his life in that very moment (apart from Lagertha lol)
I know how ragnar feels oh how I wish he would have ended Rollo if it wasn't for his guard just because he was smaller does not automatically mean he would have been killed they were both amazing warriors ragnar won alot of battles because of his stragies

@@a.g.4311 My personal take was always this. Rollo was a born fighter, a good fighter, and probably always felt he was born for something greater for his people. Then you have Ragnar, a person who was perfectly content with living as a simple farmer, regardless of his prowess in combat. He however was unwillingly forced into situations that ultimately gave him, reluctantly, what Rollo always wanted without really having to "go for it" if you get my point. I think that is what broke Rollo, that is what he had trouble dealing with.
I think Ragnar never truly acknowledged his brother based on his focus on his ambition, and treated his brother more as a subordinate and less as a brother. Of course it still no excuse to for Rollo to go against him.

Of course he is. If he didn't betray Ragnar in the first place with Jarl Borg, he would have been a jarl instead of just a regular warrior/chief captain. Ragnar made his ambitions always clear and never betrayed someone, not even Jarl Haraldsson, him, King Horik and Jarl Borg all attacked him first, that is what makes him special. Without Ragnar Rollo wouldn't be shit, he would still serve some local Jarl to annual attacks in the Baltic, because he is in no way visionary. And even when he did beat the norsemen it wasn't built on intelligence but moreso on suprise betrayal, although Ragnar sensed it and was a fool and probably too addicted to follow his instinct. He was ready to kill his own son and the love of his live for his own ego, bc he had to show the world he was equal. I conclude that Rollo was just a jealous midget. While Ragnar had mercy with him, instead of regaining his honour and contributing his life to the viking cause(Which is morally wrong as well, lol), he betrayed his own people, killing thousands of his own kind. Of course he is the stronger man than ragnar in combat, already simply by his physics, but he is mentally weak. He sould his soul and his family just for some land and a dutchy. And the moral confliction just adds up to him being a weakling. Instead of regretting he at least once should've taken his deeds as a man, but his weakness just haunts him and denied him access to both Heaven and Valhalla

Thence, Ragnar would utter these words: "what stupid leaves behind Rollo at French border", knowing that every person in the world expect him will have better things to offer to Rollo. Rollo never cherished going against his brother, and so is the reason why director would portray that scene of Rollo falling on knees and cry for fighting his own brother. Ragnar would have done worst things if opposite were the case. So no person is better or worse, it's the circumstances that make him do the things that he does ! It takes one to know one ... Rollo's character ain't definitely worth to be hated, you! you too know this!

I think there is no justification for all what Rollo did, however he is still one of my favourite characters somehow, maybe because of Clive Standen´s amazing job, or the physical resemblance I share with him, or some of his struggles I can relate myself with. Also, I´m surprised by the fact that I´ve never seen anyone mentioning Rollo falling in love with Gisla as the main reason for his betrayal. Before the Franks came after the battle with the offer, the bear and the princess already shared some cool scenes during the fight while she was on the battlements and making contact visual with him. I truly believed Rollo just met the love of his life in that very moment (apart from Lagertha lol)
I know how ragnar feels oh how I wish he would have ended Rollo if it wasn't for his guard just because he was smaller does not automatically mean he would have been killed they were both amazing warriors ragnar won alot of battles because of his stragies

@@a.g.4311 My personal take was always this. Rollo was a born fighter, a good fighter, and probably always felt he was born for something greater for his people. Then you have Ragnar, a person who was perfectly content with living as a simple farmer, regardless of his prowess in combat. He however was unwillingly forced into situations that ultimately gave him, reluctantly, what Rollo always wanted without really having to "go for it" if you get my point. I think that is what broke Rollo, that is what he had trouble dealing with.
I think Ragnar never truly acknowledged his brother based on his focus on his ambition, and treated his brother more as a subordinate and less as a brother. Of course it still no excuse to for Rollo to go against him.

Of course he is. If he didn't betray Ragnar in the first place with Jarl Borg, he would have been a jarl instead of just a regular warrior/chief captain. Ragnar made his ambitions always clear and never betrayed someone, not even Jarl Haraldsson, him, King Horik and Jarl Borg all attacked him first, that is what makes him special. Without Ragnar Rollo wouldn't be shit, he would still serve some local Jarl to annual attacks in the Baltic, because he is in no way visionary. And even when he did beat the norsemen it wasn't built on intelligence but moreso on suprise betrayal, although Ragnar sensed it and was a fool and probably too addicted to follow his instinct. He was ready to kill his own son and the love of his live for his own ego, bc he had to show the world he was equal. I conclude that Rollo was just a jealous midget. While Ragnar had mercy with him, instead of regaining his honour and contributing his life to the viking cause(Which is morally wrong as well, lol), he betrayed his own people, killing thousands of his own kind. Of course he is the stronger man than ragnar in combat, already simply by his physics, but he is mentally weak. He sould his soul and his family just for some land and a dutchy. And the moral confliction just adds up to him being a weakling. Instead of regretting he at least once should've taken his deeds as a man, but his weakness just haunts him and denied him access to both Heaven and Valhalla
