    The Jetta is 'safe'. It's blemish free, but also featureless. It's a Gin and Tonic without the Gin, but in a VERY clean glass.

    • @edjackson4389
      @edjackson4389 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I own a body shop. Been buying, driving, and fixing most every make and model for 27years. There was a time when german cars were very reliable. That time has passed. And the parts cost for typical maintenance on an older german cars that have over 100,000 miles usually outweighs what you paid for it. Buy a few used ones in a row, and you'll see what I mean. I've never worked on a French car, but the British ones are problematic to say the least, and they are also on my 'do not purchase list' unless they are under factory warranty.

    • @Tucet_
      @Tucet_ 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ed Jackson
      Germans are very reliable. If the car has been checked regulary and driven how it is supposed to be driven, it can 100% run for a long time without breaking down, I can promise you that. My dad has driven many audis over the years, and he stuck with them for a reason.

    • @edjackson4389
      @edjackson4389 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any modern car built in the last 20 years can run a long time if driven correctly, and maintained. I never said every german car would break down every thousand miles. I just said they are no better than most American cars, but more expensive in every way. Initial cost, tune ups, parts, etc etc. They DO occasionally break down, and when they do, its gonna cost more than average to fix them. I make a living fixing cars. This is not just my opinion.

    I've had all types of cars over the last 45 years. My favourites have been Subaru's and currently have an XV. My wit drives a VW Jetta 2.0 Turbo Petrol, which she has had since new in 2007. To say we like this car would be an understatement ( guess that's why we still have it) It provides great performance with good furl economy and plenty of creature comforts, let alone being plain comfortable. There are very few mid-size cars which I can stretch out in to drive...and the Jetta is probably the best.
    The car has been reliable and when the conditions are suitable .... 'great fun' too!
    Once again, a classic case of people here....including Jeremy (who would never own such a lowly vehicle anyway) knocking a car of which they have no knowledge.
    We can't all afford and AMG Mercedes.....but we can get good quality at a far cheaper price. Yes, the Jetta was made in Mexico, but I now know that it has been screwed together a lot, lot better than most other similar vehicles out there!

    Jeremy Clarkson also punched out a caterer when his steak was late. When he is having a bad day he is quite literally criminally bad. As regards the TDI, he seems to be having a bad day. The simple fact is that a lot of people like the VW TDI, and for some very good reasons. The low rpm torque of a TDI, or any turbo diesel, is significant. There is a club of people who have driven one 600 miles on a single tank of fuel. The handling is not negligible, since it shares suspension geometry with the GTI. And the DSG transmission is a dual clutch gear box, that feels like a manual in auto-mode. Shifting is very, very fast. TDIs are nimble, economical little cars, with lot of poke in the lower RPMs. Also, is Clarkson telling us he has a problem with Mexicans?

    I admit the Volkswagen Jetta doesn't have enough features, especially the 2012, 2013 models but it's built quality, cabin design, upholstery, legroom, exterior looks and performance are very good. It's engine is strong even in dynamic mode and even better in the sport mode. But no one can doubt Jeremy at all! He's the boss.

    i dont care what they say, the jetta is a part of me. Ever since i was little, my family owned a jetta, and never have they said they wanted something else. I understand it is not the best, whether it is the engine, the ride, etc. what it is is heritage, passion, and precision. Mpg is brilliant and it is such a quick little car, handles well too. Everyone does not like them, i understand, but at least keep it in your mind that this car says everything about volkswagen, and i love that.

    Old Jetta's (Mk2 and Mk3 - called in Europe Vento, which I have at the moment) were very nice and reliable cars. I love how they were economic, and had cheap parts. What's more, if your car is broken, in most cases you can fix it on your own, but usually, there is nothing to fix cause nothing is broken. Jetta all the way!
    Regards from Poland.
    Btw - I don't care where car is made, I am looking only at reliability, fuel consumption and style. Regards.

      @@SomeUserInternet My vento was (take a note of the word "was" as it rusted to pieces, unfortunately) a very stylish car. I was living in Poland 11 years ago and had no money to buy a Chevy or Dodge. Vento or Jetta Mk3 costed me 3500 polish zlotys, which was at the time around a thousand bucks. For me, it was just sweet, beautiful car, that served me well. Take care!

Even his last two ''tests'' of normal cars, the twingo and the fiesta, were a joke... i still love him tho :P btw, european Jetta is nothing like the US version, no drums in the back for us... also, better suspension, better interior,...

    The Germans are absolutely ruthless when it comes to Quality Control. The only experience I have with Mexico's output are in regards to the engines we import for the Passat. I'll say this -- it's extremely rare for us to have an engine with a defect of any kind. If we have a defect on a car it's usually due to electronic issues. The engines we receive from Mexico are golden. They are nearly faultless. The Passat is a VERY well engineered, if inexpensively manufactured, sedan.

    the jetta isnt boring. Its very fun to drive! But in North America...all compact cars like the Jetta are boring and the Jetta has always been one of the drivers compacts next to the Focus. But here in Europe, there are better options, yes,like the Golf or A class', 1 Series, etc. The Jetta needs something to give it as much attention in Europe than it does in North America since it a Top 10 seller there.
