      So that's what made him soft, huh.. What a pity. I must admit, compated to Top Gear, The Grand Tour has been pretty weak so far. The humor has suffered greatly on Grand Tour. I truly do believe that some people work better under a limit..
      I hate that so many jokes are just so much on the nose now. I don’t get why they’re being “generous” with their audience, why they care if we get the joke or not. One of the best things about TG was that some of the jokes flew over your head and only later you understood them, and that made it so much better.
      Now it’s like they’re holding a sign “LOOK HERE, THIS IS A JOKE!”. P.S. i don’t mean every joke they tell is bad, but you can see the difference.

    Honestly, I wish entertainment was still like this. You cant please everyone and no matter what, someone is going to be offended and complain, just because thats what they do. These days those people use Twitter. Obviously, its different if they were slinging around actual slurs, but getting bent out of shape over jokes is YOUR problem. Words only have as much power as we give them and I firmly believe that the only way to get rid of the issues in this world is to make them laughing stocks.

    • @zapador
      @zapador 2 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Very true! Virtually everything can be funny in the right light or situation, jokes are jokes and getting offended by them is missing the point. But as you say it's different these days, it's like there's a small but very vocal minority getting offended by everything and they get to dictate what the majority can enjoy.
      Jordan Peterson made a very interesting point in an interview, that you "can't say anything about anything important ever without offending" and continues to make the point that there's this idea today that you can't offend anyone. So what if you're speaking to one person, do you have the right to offend that person? What if you're speaking to 10 people? Do you get to offend 1 in 10? Or 1 in a 1000?

These days the voices are amplified by social media and, rather annoyingly, they have latched onto an actually good cause, poisoning it and draining it of its power in the process.

Some of it is harmless "yeah this was a bit silly" but a lot of it is cruel and cowardly shaming of anyone who isn't English, cherry picking specific stereotypes to laugh at while those people get it all day every day. It's just bullying from a place of privilege. You think you're equal to them but they're on 6-7 figure salaries with multiple properties and cars while some of us starve on £250 a month and they laugh and call us lazy & unemployed while they charge us £1000 a month rent for a house that hasn't been upgraded since the 70s and literally do nothing themselves all day but leech off of other people's income.

      If the BBC actually gave a fuck about peoples feelings they should have snuffed Jimmy Savilles career the first time Johnny Rotten outed him.
      Yet they kept Jimmy on, and banned Johnny.
      After that the BBC should just refrain from passing judgement.

    I think the best thing about Top Gear, was I could sit at home and watch it on TV, sitting in my living room on a couch or lounge chair.
    And not have to stand in the audience. Much more enjoyable sitting and laughing at their antics.

      Basically he said some offensive stuff about truckers like the line "all truckers do is change gear change gear check mirrors murder prostitutes" and people were pissed. He instead apologized for not putting the Porsche gt2 laptime because during that lorry episode, he actually didn't put the lap time

      Yes, it’s a reference to the fact that a number of American tv dramas and films, whenever they feature truck drivers, nearly always portray them as killers. A few episodes of CSI and Criminal Minds spring to mind as examples.

      He was pertaining to the Yorkshire Ripper who was a lorry driver who murdered prostitutes in the 80s. He used the guy as inspiration for the lorry driver stereotype lol.

    I adore how they deal with offended people. In Sweden, if someone gets offended, SVT (the Swedish equivalent of BBC), they would say they are ”deeply sorry for any mistake” and the whole show would probably be canceled.

      That's pretty much how the BBC is now too. They used to have a spine and were a respectable organisation. Not any longer.
