Whenever they start yapping about "Inclusivity" and these "Modern audiences" it excludes 99.9% of the OG players who made this franchise a success, not the people who don't exist nor care.
Also the fact that a large majority of modern “Assassin’s Creed” fans started playing at Odyssey(arguably the worst offender) and only played the RPG games that barely have anything to do with the IP to begin with. Ubisoft abandoned the original fans and have actively been replacing them with this new generation that mindlessly consumes their RPG slop.

They should have just made Yasuke an NPC from the start not the lead. I don't think anyone would have batted an eye if he was a simple quest giver, maybe having to complete a few quests for him before you can get quests from Nobunaga or something. Hell making him an NPC would have actually achieved the goal they claim to go for, because they would have introduced the whole "black guy in Japan" angle, without having to tell bold faced lies about him.
It is unlikely he was a samurai. The modern conception of ninjas is mostly fictional. Shinobi was a job that involves espionage. Females were definitely involved in espionage all throughout the world and all throughout history.
It's crazy because they had the golden opportunity to make her an onna-bugeisha. The thing is, this whole inclusion aspect is tailored to U.S. Americans. They say Yasuke is African, yet they play Rap music during fight scenes? From my (non-American) viewpoint, it looks as though they actually wanted an Afro-American character, because that is the only inclusion they care about. It’s such an arrogant, self-involved view! Are Japanese people not worth depicting? Apparently not. I’m old enough to have been raised to not differentiate between races. I believe all humans have different perspectives and wisdom to offer. And I’ve lived on two different continents, mind you. It feels like U.S. Americans don’t even realize there’s billions of other people in the world. What's crazy when you realize it is that the companies who made everyone's favorite games (The original Assassin's Creed and the Witcher 3 just as examples) don't actually exist any more. One person cannot be 'diverse,' of course. 'Diverse' refers to a group that has many different kinds of members. A group of one black dude has zero diversity... it's 100% homogeneous. A group of 99 white men and one black man is much more diverse than a group of 100 black men.

The First and most notable Samurai that were not from Asia is William Adams, there has been some from Korea and China but i think thats irrelevant in this context, the only others are from Spain and Prussia but William Adams is by far the most known and i think most influential due to his connection to Tokugawa Ieyasu.
They could of given players the option to choose between a male and female assassin character while keeping the Yasuke stuff, but Ubisoft are the kings of pouring piss down players backs and telling them it's rain water.

This is absolutely hilarious, we already saw Hollywood go through all this crap. It just takes a little longer for video games to be made. It’s obvious that, back in 2020, the entertainment industry assumed we would be living in a very different 2024.
Yasuke did indeed lead a very rich and interesting life for he went from a slave to a servant of Oda himself and at times he was used as an exotic dancing monkey to showcase at Oda's gatherings. Ubisoft is going to have to get very comfortable not existing very soon.

From reports / rumurs... The game was re-made multiple times, the studio was inexperiened in a way wasted a lot of time. Also supposedly the studio didn't have clear direction.... The game should have been cancelled probably however Ubisoft took grants / subsidies from the Singapore soooo they were contractually forced to make and release it. In 2022 at Gamescom there were was a huge booth for the game, the booth (I am not talking about the game here) looked really cool :D
I do have to make a correction, there was one group of people who were allowed to trade with the Japanese at a specific town in the south west of Japan. Those people were the Dutch .
Reminder, Yasuke likely from that time, was put in a situation where he gets to live a lavish lifestyle safely in a fancy castle and all he has to do is work out and act as an art piece with the most powerful man in the country at that time in a land with a language he has no understanding. To put it in modern terms, you are living with a billionaire foreign emperor being given basically everything, free internet, games, movies, food, Shelter, Clothes, a bed that feels like a cloud, a room the size of a condo. You dont even have to learn the language, you just need to work out everyday for a few hours or more if you want and show up somewhere in a fancy courtroom and partake in feast just to flex your muscles to show off occasionally, that its. You just cant go out and explore the country unless the emperor takes you with him. Thats very likely Yasuke's perspective at the time considering where he came from before being enslaved eating scraps of food.

If my ethnicity was used to portray an established character or historical figure, we would take that as very insulting. If a different ethnicity represented historical figures from my heritage, that would be insulting. What, is my ethnicity not good enough to represent itself? Is my ethnicity not good enough to have its own stories? I have always been for inclusivity, but that comes with equal rights that are represented appropriately, not disproportionately.

I am very curious what Yasuke's "Significant role in history" was. I remember learning about William Adams because I was interested in Japanese history, but didn't remember anything that could be described as a "Significant role in history" from Yasuke.

I have decided not to purchase or engage with *Assassin's Creed: Shadows* due to concerns regarding its portrayal of historical events and the overwhelming emphasis on inclusivity and DEI initiatives that feel inauthentic and forced. While I support diversity and inclusion, I believe it should be integrated naturally without compromising the integrity of the historical narrative.
I’m refusing to buy or even pirate *Assassin’s Creed: Shadows* because it’s a complete betrayal of historical accuracy, overshadowed by forced inclusivity and over-the-top DEI practices. It’s frustrating to see the game prioritize ticking diversity boxes over staying true to the actual time period. From reports / rumurs... The game was re-made multiple times, the studio was inexperiened in a way wasted a lot of time. Also supposedly the studio didn't have clear direction.... The game should have been cancelled probably however Ubisoft took grants / subsidies from the Singapore soooo they were contractually forced to make and release it. In 2022 at Gamescom there were was a huge booth for the game, the booth (I am not talking about the game here) looked really cool :D
I do have to make a correction, there was one group of people who were allowed to trade with the Japanese at a specific town in the south west of Japan. Those people were the Dutch .

If my ethnicity was used to portray an established character or historical figure, we would take that as very insulting. If a different ethnicity represented historical figures from my heritage, that would be insulting. What, is my ethnicity not good enough to represent itself? Is my ethnicity not good enough to have its own stories? I have always been for inclusivity, but that comes with equal rights that are represented appropriately, not disproportionately.

I would be careful about showing images of the call sheet, ubisoft could put secret codes in to figure out who's leaking to you. I heard of some other company doing the same by sending almost identical letters to staff featuring a double space in different places on different staffs letters to know exactly who's letter leaked 👍
