Part of me can't help but wonder if both actresses are complicit in a media stunt. One takes the woke side to appeal to the "leftie crazies", the other takes the anti-woke side to appral to the "far right chuds" in hopes that both sides will see the movie.
I noticed a while ago today when actresses refer to their character, they would always say I and me. But back in the days, they would always say she and her. Like divorcing themselves from their characters. It wasn’t about the actress it was about the character. They would build the actress around the character. But you listen today and they’re constantly saying I and me. That’s because of the real life identity of the actress has become most important in Hollywood. The only reason she got mad is because they have brainwashed this person onto thinking everyone is racist. All your customers are racist. All audiences racist, and what you’re doing is so brave and so courageous. So the moment she saw that poster, all she thought about was race race race race race. This is Hollywood today. A racist and sexist industry. All in the name of anti-racism and anti-sexism. Go figure. I mean how many celebrity women have we seen do this now? They have all been brainwashed. They truly believe they are the first to do something. So they’ll make up stats like first black woman to play a role as a pregnant wife in a 50s setting. First black woman to play a role in a live action based on a video game. First black woman to eat a sandwhich while taking a break during acting.
Saying "I" and "me" is part of acting training that goes back to Stanislavsky and the Moscow Art Theatre. My teacher was trained by Lee Strasberg and Ilia Kazan, who were both trained by Stanislavsky. The idea is that saying "I" and "me" personalizes the performance. What would I do in the character's circumstances? However, personalizing the role is best done in rehearsal and performance. Saying "I" and "me" during interviews about acting is typically bad form, unless the actor says something like, "As the character, I constantly asked myself, 'What would I do in this situation?'"

I used to hate it in days gone by when celebrities would clearly pretend to be super enthusiastic about things you knew they didn't really like, know about or even care about. It was shallow and vacuous, such as James Cordon claiming every single new musical act on The Late Late Show was his "favorite band" like he was a 5 year old, but one could at least understand why they were pretending to be excited about things in order to promote them. But this switch to celebs looking for things to hate or claim victimhood over is just insidious and grotesque. It is incredibly harmful to brands and companies, and yet for some reason such behavior is not only allowed to continue, but in some cases it is actually endorsed. We need to return to the value of "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

But this lady playing Elphaba is a stranger to me, I'm not sure what she's done before this but when I see pics of her outside of this context and from what I've seen in a couple of interviews she doesn't seem to embody the character or her values.. idk. I mean Elphaba was absolutely an activist, so I could see why and how she would connect with the role. But it's not translating through her to me I'm just not reading Elphaba. Then I thought maybe she's got an incredible voice and is going to blow the vocal performance out of the water. Then I heard that last note in that preview, the one at the end of Defying Gravity. Ppl don't need to boycott (and purposefully stay away from something they want to see), they authentically don't want to see the movie anymore. The musical, the poster, and the character are not about her... but apparently. movie-Elphaba IS Cynthia in some green paint... and the only ppl this will appeal to are fans of the actress.. or green paint.
Because it has become all about the identity of the actress rather than the character. You see it in western video games now too. Every single female character is unattractive deliberately.
We need to return to the value of "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

the original Wicked poster - for theatrical performances had the wry smile and the hidden eyes. it was all deliberate.... but the African queen actress decided she needed to be glaring at people from her movie poster.. totally ot getting the character she was playing. no doubt the film is shit too.. another hollywood fail .

The the official poster looks worse than the fan edit. “Eyes to communicate” that is a horrible hill to die on. There are literally so many characters that never show their eyes or face and still manage to translate that to their performers to achieve something great.
The title role by John Hurt in The Elephant Man comes to mind.
another one destroying their movie when not even out yet
Hope the Wicked fans do not go and see this now.
Yep in a nutshell she needs to learn the art of STFU before the movie has been out for a year or so. Not that hard if you want it to succeed and maybe even get a sequel which equals more work and a win win for all the people of the cast and crew who worked hard on the movie project. But nahhhhh got to play the spoiled brat. If that is the most offense thing she has ever seen she doesn't get out much.
And their careers in the process. They’re box office poison, and there’s no turning back after that
The problem is its not her movie, it's not her folklore, it's not her stage play, and it wasn't meant to be played by someone like her,
She's not doing her own career prospects any favours. Wicked will probably survive her stupidity, but the next potential project might not be so big and who wants to risk hiring a toxic motor mouth who attacks your target audience?

@@paulwillard9687 I agree she has no business playing this part especially when you find out what she’s trying to do to the wicked Butch of the West hair because all she cares about his identity.
Yeah, I have no idea who this lady is but she's a bizarre choice for Elphaba. I can see Ariana as Glinda all day, she's honestly perfect for the role aside from looking washed out and ghostly in that shade of blonde. No reason why she shouldn't have had a golden/strawberry blonde like the original Glinda in the Wizard of Oz.
It was terrible, and idk who heard that take and thought yeah, that's gonna get people hyped for this movie. In fact we'll end the preview with that note so it will be ringing in people's ears... yikes. Do they have ears? Have they heard the original broadway cast recording? Seen it performed? Jeez. Plus, from what I've seen, neither lead seems to have any charm which is surprising given Ariana has had plenty of training and was pretty endearing on her TV show. It's been years though. Hopefully they're both able to deliver despite my misgivings bc I love wicked 😩

@@crazyralph6386 You’re not wrong I just hope the average consumer can see through this bs…
You know what is actually pissing me off? The people involved in the production will now be impacted from her taking offense to something that was not meant to offend. Had she embraced the artistic take, movie would be making some money and having success. With her negative, selfish take on it, whole production, crew, co-stars, and company have to suffer. I wonder how long it will be before production companies start suing actors for acting stupid. Should be a clause in their contract that until the movie is out, actor can't go on social media.
Right!
The movie poster reminds me of when Bush was told about the planes in 9/11. His chief of staff whispered in his ear and Bush had a blank look on his face.

What is so strange about all of this is.. the fan art appears to have been made with love and admiration and they did a pretty good job of it. This reminds me of the old saying about how not good deed goes unpunished. I think the same fan artist should now come out with another poster to show the actress how the world now sees her.
Funny enough theres a song in Wicked the musical called "No Good Deed". That saying is referenced there too.
She still hasn't answered the question about whether it's green or not.

The stage actress looks pretty good.
the stage show has been very successful and the poster was an iconic one. the wry smile and hidden eyes was part of that. but once again Hollywood do not understand .. black actress wanted to glare at ppl ; slay queen!! totally misreading character she was cast as
Elphaba is like that in the poster because there is so much that we don't know and so much to her story. Wicked is literally telling her story of how and why she came to be percieved by all of Oz as wicked and an outcast but also see that she wasn't always that way.
Also the original musical poster had the phrase "So much happened befoee Dorothy dropped in" on it. Which also says alot right there.
Offended by everything. Ashamed of nothing.
Entitled to everything. Contributing nothing.
Stop subsidizing and coddling these people.
Well said.
These actors/actresses think the movie and characters are about them and for them. Its neither. Arrogance, hubris, and conceit.
If you worked at any job in the world and you started doing the opposite of what customers want while insulting them and telling them they aren't the consumer they are looking for then they would be instantly fired.
Talk about puching down.
Main character/victimhood mentality.
It's the state of constant victim mentality in which they live in that has them like this.
Boycott!!!! Let the movie tank and let her complain about that!!!
Ppl don't need to boycott (and purposefully stay away from something they want to see), they authentically don't want to see the movie anymore. Her rant created a natural aversion to the movie, especially for fans of the musical. The audience wants to see Elphaba, but all they will see is the actress and her attitude. Her reaction shows that she doesn't care about or respect the play or its fans... or that she is just ONE of the few talented actors who will get to play Elpheba. The musical, the poster, and the character are not about her... but apparently. movie-Elphaba IS Cynthia in some green paint... and the only ppl this will appeal to are fans of the actress.. or green paint.
To these "Modern" stars who wanna play the "Victim Mentality" cry me a river.
Why didn't they cast a hotter actress?
Indeed
Because it has become all about the identity of the actress rather than the character. You see it in western video games now too. Every single female character is unattractive deliberately. Why do you think this woman got mad? That’s because for years they have gaslit her onto believing everyone is rcst and sxst. This is why she is like the eighth female celebrity to meltdown online and ruin her career.
They do it in western video games too. Every female character in a western video game is now unattractive.
I dont know what hollyweirds obsession with ugly black women are. Like there arent dozens of attractive black women that dont attack fans they could have chosen.
She should get cast as Nosferatu.
Out of touch and superiority complex is an understatement.
Well, as it's a Disney film I'd 100% expect Cynthia to be edited out of the poster for the Chinese release.
I think she's offended because she physically can't smile (or visually convey emotion).
Unreal that a woman in her 40's is chosen for such a role!!!!
Well, that settles it, I won't watch this movie as long as Cynthia is in it. A shame too, I quite like Arianne, but the childish actions of her co-star has destroyed any chance of me watching it.
Remember the famous quote from Michael Jordan : "Republicans buy sneakers, too"
Never ever antagonize your fans, and therefore your customers
Is it just me or dose the original poster kinda looks like Shrek? And now that I’ve seen it I can’t unsee it….
I think a lot of actors/actresses know not to piss of the fans. Gal Dadot seemed to know Rachel Zegler was nuking herself in their Snow White interviews. The way Gadot keeps looking at Zegler and smiling while she prattles on and on is priceless.
Whats the problem? Edited shot looks cool.
Somebody dared to "touch" her face. And people nowadays need very little to get offended so they can play the victim card.
My gosh, the edit is awesome. And now that I understand what the issue is I'm not thrilled about seeing her face on the original poster.
At the moment it's hard to see past whining and look forward to the movie.
