- Ike bought a $50 go kart! Can we make it run and ride for minimal investment? In today's episode, we do a follow up build to our original $50 go kart build video from years ago. Can you still buy a decent go kart for $50? This one wheel drive vintage Streaker go kart has a late model Jiang Dong 196cc overhead valve engine that isn't running. With a little bit of cleaning and under $50 worth of parts, we make this rusty old go kart run and ride!

ike: "crappy water on the flor" - dang my floor. 5 mins after does a huge burnout across the shop :D
To be fair, water is worse on a wooden floor than a skidmark.

@@BaltaM4ster A burnt line in wood wont cause any more issues than that. Water soaks into the wood and expands and contracts and destroys it. Water damage is rough, especially on plywood flooring.
@@BaltaM4ster Yeah as said, water will soak into wood but I'm sure they dried it up with a rag pretty quick so either way it will not be a huge deal.
Five years later, we found another $50 go kart!
I got a more off road one of these free from a friend a few months ago that has a tecumseh 6.5 on it. I’d say Ike’s probably right. I slapped a $10 carb on it and it runs great!

Since the front is already banged up, you should extend the front and relocate the pedals so Ike can actually ride it 😂
They need to get a fl250 style steering wheel with the gas and break on the steering wheel
If they extend the frame between the seat and the steering wheel it would give them more room and also move the pedals out further.
That MOTHenol in the fuel don't really fair well, gotta get that mothenol free stuff!

In general reviving old vehicles that have been sitting for years is extremely satisfying. Also what's the story with that W140 S-Class 29:50.
Looks like Ike's like me: loves to collect projects but rarely works on any of them. Almost certainly got a deal he couldn't pass up on it.
That gocart was manufactured in 1998 it’s also known as a “fun-kart” manufactured by ken-bar manufacturing co. Of Cornelia Georgia
1993 not 1998 my parents bought me one brand new from fisco in Tracy ca
They also had an entire line of streakers including an off road varient with a rear diff straight axle

Man, I built one 98% like this with my dad as a kid. Even the metal rods on the pedals. Best fun I ever had with a 5hp Briggs.....literally right down to the wire running the same way for throttle cable!!!! Lol never figured out a better way to make a mechanical linkage that would actually work good.
Still have it and gonna restore it with my son. Fun little yard karts.

My first go kart was this model it black. Had a 5hp briggs flathead on it. $500 sticker price at local Honda dealer. Pull the governer wide open with your finger and it would run 55 mph! The times on i had on that kart!

That one wheel peel spitting mud all over the place is cracking me up. Add in having to sit off center just to get some traction and it makes this one of the funniest episodes of Cars and Cameras I've seen in a while.

MY OLD MAN BOUGHT ME THAT KART NEW WHEN I WAS 5!!!!! It came with a 5hp brigs and it was 2wd. Removed the governer. Also put some nice slicks on it. I used to lock up the rear wheels and drift the thing around and do a 360 on the street. One time I flipped the kart onto myself in the road, not a fun day. This video is such a nostalgia trip. I vividly remember those pedals, the seat, the back u bar behind the engine and that toggle switch under the steering wheel.Oh yeah i had to add my cart was Blue! My brother turbocharged it with a gas powered leaf blower and cooked the piston ring. A worthy send off indeed.

Had one of those when I was 8, my grandad bought 3 of them for me my brother and my cousin, in Chattanooga, Tn. That was one of the funnest summers of my childhood, racing those things around grandpas 2 acre farm. This was in 1979, fun times! Thanks for ringing my memory bell, lol

I had a streaker one seater when I was a kid.my grand dad bought it new for me and it had a 5hp briggs on it from factory.it was a blast to ride.it also came with an orange safety flag on a 5 foot pole.

Hey that's literally the go cart my my father brought me back in 1989 when good year tire service sold them they came with 5hp Briggs and stratton engines.

The easy way to make a locking nut is to heat the nut and put a little solder in the last couple of threads. Easier than beating it with a hammer.
Or lock tight. But reasons.

The ultimate in "back yard" mechanical ingenuity. Been there and done that. But for some reason I can't bring myself to do this sort of thing any more. I'd make a serious try to resurrect stuff like this. Maybe because I was a mechanic for a top 10 off-road motorcycle racer for a few years. Maybe, just not sure. I just see so much cringe worthy stuff on this channel .. but .. I .. can't .. look .. away ..!

Yall should seriously make this kart a 3 wheeler. lengthen the back and move the seat back some, one wheel in the rear, and maybe even put a minibike tire on the back, see if it's faster.
Love the content, I hope yall never ever stop! About to finish my first yardkart and it's a bit like this one but a bit heavier. And I got all sorts of ideas for upgrades later on.

Your 50$ go kart video years and years ago got me into go karts which got me into mechanics and now I plan on being a mechanic

Pretty sure I had the same cart. 3.5hp Briggs, spin all day, do 35 on pavement and was dead reliable.. Tons of fun to slide sidesays.
In 1993 I would go straight cut hard and stand on 2 wheels for fun.

Hey guys luv ur show up here in Sudbury Ontario. My kart is almost the same. Turns right fast and drifts turning left. Loads of fun. I put turf tires on the back and wheel barrel tires on the front. Keep up the good work.

I’ve had a number of the pacesetters of that kind. All of mine have been one wheel drive. As you’ve probably figured out by now they’re a ken-bar model kart made throughout the 90’s and maybe part of the late 80’s. and this particular model was a base model. Nothing fancy just your run of the mill yard kart. I believe almost all of them came with a Tecumseh engine. Not sure what HP but if I had to guess I’m sure it would’ve came with a 5.5HP. I have seen some with the Briggs flathead “fun power” engines. They’re very common but what’s different about yours is the pedals which I don’t think are original to the frame.

Hello from Queensland Australia, Isaac, you and John, need to make that cart much longer so you can fit in it, without it looking like the gocart got shrunk in the wash, before you rode it. Also get rid of that single drive wheel and put a live axle on it, before you or John hurt yourselves majorly downstairs, trying to get traction with that single wheel drive, OUCH!! THAT'S GOTTA HURT.

John, ike. Let me say this again. When you do bearings in wheels. The proper way to do it. Find a pipe that fits your axle shaft and measure the inside width between the bearings and cut a spacer to keep the bearings from ever being overtightened. Actually doing this will help you keep bearings longer
