    As they say, bigger isn’t always better! This is an amazing find! Imagine if you found two V-Twins you could fit on there. The instantaneous torque from an extra cylinder let alone a 20 horsepower unit times two would be nearly impossible to handle I’d imagine. Well done.

    This is great fun. Just a little tip when servicing. When you remove the carburetor take the choke handle off the top and the small snub end is designed to stick into the fuel line as a stopper. You can then service the carburetor without having to clamp fuel lines.

    Great video! Don't forget to oil the brass bushing on those clutches with a few drops of engine oil before each ride. They'll last much longer and operate smoother. If not the brass bushing will fail quickly then you'll have squealing, squeaking, grinding and the clutch locking up. Very important to oil them each ride.

    Keep this trick I devised years ago for the future when you do carburetor cleaning.. Try this... Heat the plastic tube from the carb cleaner spray with a lighter (about 1/4-1/2 inch from the end. Then pull on each end of the tube to stretch it. This makes the outer/inner tube diameter smaller and more of a pin point. When the melted plastic solidifies, use small wire nippers or nail clippers to snip the tube at the smallest diameter that still provides flow when spraying.
    The cleaner comes out like a pin point pressure washer and the shrunken plastic tube end fits snugly inside whatever port your spaying thru. You can also do the same to create 90 degree angles in the plastic tube to spray sideways inside long venturi tubes. (Like idle circuits) I used to make/keep custom tubes around for these situations. Hope this makes sense.
    Love your content!

    Could you cut the axle shaft in half, install a second gas pedal, and operate the two engines separately in order to have torque vectoring? That would make it corner crazy good!

    Your comment about the fundamentals of driving with the young men was dead on point! My father built me a go-kart whenever I was 4 years old, he governed it to go a whopping 8 mph with a (of course a) Flathead 3 horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine considering I'm 52 years old. He then turned me loose on it and of course I wrecked into trees and fences and he always laughed and fixed it. It did teach me the fundamentals of driving whenever I started driving , I already knew what to do! But my first truck he gave me at the age of 14 which is a totalled out 75-year model Chevrolet short wheelbase truck that I had two years to build a engine, straighten the frame and do all the bodywork. ect. We on the Candy factory as I was growing up and he started me off at 8 years old on summer vacation working maintenance on all the wrapping machines and taught me how to weld, heli arc stainless and aluminum, run a lathe, milling machine and beginning's of fabrication of conveyor machines. He loved me so much and was eager to teach me anything I wanted to know. RIP MY DEAREST LOVING DADDY....

    Worked once on a nearly identical Honda attached to a small generator from the 90s. Family bought it for my great grandfather, he died 25 years ago, and it sat ever since. All it took was some fresh gas and a float bowl rinse and it ran like new.

    Hey Kev you’ve got my head spinning with this one, now I’m thinking about trying to build my twin engine go-cart 😁 personally I would love to see more content on builds or revivals like this. As far as the go-cart goes, I say go for shit and pump it up👍🏻 just be safe😂

    Some of those gx (and clone) engines need a minute or two to warm up before they will run good with the choke off. I've got one on a minibike that needs to idle for a good 2 minutes before it will snap up without bogging.
    My 16hp predator 212 takes a couple minutes as well.

  • @derekdelamar
    @derekdelamar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    You can get split timing advance keys for the flywheels on those engines and racing pistons. Take the governors out and change to straight tube exhaust headers. Get some split sprockets so you can tune your torque curve to your application.And can get jet kits for the carbs.
    I worked at a racing park for a while, maintaining karts with those engines.
    And when you do blow one up, go to harbor freight and buy a $100 replacement to start all over with.

    • @joshuaatkins5197
      @joshuaatkins5197 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think if they get into it deeper they'll realize how easy it is and will be quickly modding things. I know I would be. What you said plus a billet flywheel to float the valves around 5000 depending on the springs course

    • @Deucealive75
      @Deucealive75 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The harbor freight engines aren't even worth getting these days. Best to spend a little extra on a Ducar or Tillotson and have a better quality starting point to work with, and more out of the box power than the Predator. The Predator would be fine as a utility engine but for a go kart or minibike I would get a Ducar or Tilly. And the Ducar comes with a PVL flywheel.

      Can’t believe Kevin could be so bitter. Derek is still true to the revival genre,can’t blame him for wanting to enjoy the fruits of his labor and on putting his hard earned dollars into independence and putting on a show. Kevin should get off his high horse.

      I heard that comment and was hoping it wasnt directed at anyone in particular. Maybe just a line of ribbing that fell flat on delivery. Or an attempt at feaux YT drama maybe. A feller couldnt do better than to be friendly & happy for others success. JYD is pretty special too.

    Seeing a mini build series in the go kart would be super cool! Don’t feel like you can’t make videos with other vehicles. Revivals are cool, but build series and making something actually nice is also good to watch

Since then I have watched this channel grow from the videos with your brother to the videos with Mook. I hope that one day you can make your way over to Australia and work on one of our old fords or Holdens. Cheers Mate. x

    Fun fact. I went to school with Bob's son Carson. Graduated with him in 96. More fun facts. The track at BKS was highly regarded as one of the best karts tracks in the country. Funnest fact. I actually worked at BKS and there is an, admittedly remote, possibility that i may have had a hand in assembling your kart. I used to rip around the shops gravel parking lot in one of those, and drove spec karts on their track with all 5 of the combs boys. This was probably back in like 96-97?? Super cool to see one again!!
