Why should you even be shamed of that? The honor of warriors touch something very very deep in us, the same level as fathership or real friendship or loyality, that makes us human beeings, not money or "power" (whatever that even means). There lies a primary truth in it we all have to remind ourselves that it exists in us all, no matter where we come from or the color of the skin or gender or how we live. Beeing a human. And I'm proud to say that it brings a tear in my eye too.
@@thelevisullivan Read your comment yesterday, i whatch this triology the past weekend, after the Tank Vs Ryan fight…So after this triology i watched that triology you mention, Ali Vs Frazier, no joke, hell of fights, do yourself a favor and go watch that triology.
In terms of pure entertainment, honestly you might be right. Ali-Frazier is bigger in magnitude and the bookend fights are absolutely at the apex of boxing, but these two gave us 30 rounds of sustained action that had more than just about any other trilogy ever. I can't put it past Ali-Frazier, but you could talk me in to #2 over Marquez-Pacquiao, Barrera-Morales, and Holyfield-Bowe.
"What Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti shared together, only they know. Only they can touch it, only they can feel it" Holy shit, that phrase gives me goosebumps.
Even each others corner men are hugging each other and totally showing respect and humility, rare times in boxing, 30 rounds, multiple years these 2 camps went through,,,like sheer 🤯
@Andy Aim 100%right. @Sombre Cynic boxing is not a "yeah but" sport. Either you throw hands or you don't. These two warriors threw hands. And smiled about it.
To fight someone like Mickey Ward with a broken hand for more than half of the match is simply unbelievable. Only Gatti could do it. Such a remarkable fighter.
I agree. He never gives up and keeps punching hard till the end. He dances and moves around but keeps coming right at you. One of the greatest fighters ever.
"Irish" Mickey Ward retired from Boxing after this fight, and there was so much respect between these two that he became Arturo's trainer from then on. What an incredible display of the true spirit of the exponent of this science "Irish" Mickey displayed in his professional Boxing career, (as did Arturo Gatti, of course,(!) respectively..). Both lads absolute legends of Boxing forevermore. R.I.P Arturo "Thunder" Gatti. "Irish" Mickey Ward lives in Lowell, Massachusetts, still married to his sweetheart, and living in the same house,to this day, that he did throughout his career. He trains many upcoming and also high level boxers alike, and works construction (paving), to pay the bills, also. An absolute living legend, and absolutely real human being. Absolute max respect, "Irish" Mickey Ward, and Arturo "Thunder" Gatti. Their legacy will live on forever. May God bless them both, always.
Not entirely true. Buddy McGirt, Gatti’s trainer, continued to train Gatti until after the Mayweather fight. In which Buddy pleaded with Arturo to retire because he didn’t want to see him get hurt anymore stating that his legacy was solidified and that he had nothing left to prove in this sport. Gatti refused to retire so Buddy and him parted ways. Ward only “trained” Gatti for two fights late in his career resulting in 1 win and 1 loss for a welterweight title.
@16:22 Arturo: “My hand’s broke.” Buddy: “Huh?” Arturo: “My hands.” Buddy: “What you want me to do.” Arturo: “My right hand.” Buddy: “What you want me to do.” Arturo: “I gotta’ keep going.” Heart of a warrior. RIP MR ARTURO ‘THUNDER’ GATTI🙏🏽

All 3 of these epic bouts really have aged like fine wine. It's 2020 and I've finished another annual late night 30 round replay. I'm more astonished every time by the courage exhibited by Gatti and Ward, neither of whom had one more ounce to give after each fight.

Gatti lost the first fight, Ward the second and third. But neither beat each other. They were two dangerous men with the will most men will never understand. Even in the face of extreme adversity, even when it seemed that all was lost, both Ward and Gatti kept coming. The Gatti Ward fights are surreal and step outside of the sport of boxing. They represent the true human spirit of never quitting, never giving up, and fighting until the end and after all that is said and done, the only thing that remains is the love and friendship for each other. That is the lesson the rest of the world needs to learn. God bless Arturo and Mickey. No one sings like them any more.

It absolutely sux when you break your hand like that during a fight (!!) I have personally had the same thing occur, with a complete breakage of the second bone in from the outside, and know all too well what it is like to continue to fight with such an injury having occurred. (!) I have always had so much respect for both of these incredible warriors of the ring, and had already been a fan of both fighters, throughout their careers, having watched their fights prior to their ever having first faced one another, but I simply must emphasize how much Arturo Gatti truly astounded me in the way he responded to the situation, and still continued to throw his right hand at many points, throughout, in a fight like this one, against an opponent like "Irish" Mickey Ward, regardless..(!)....He would have known, without question, the type of fight he was in for, and just went back out there, and continued to defend against, and attack Mickey Ward, with that broken hand, relentlessly...!!....And it happened so early on in the bout!!...( I broke my own hand much later on, in a fight nowhere near the absolute pace and intensity of this incredible, absolute war, (!), and it is an extremely challenging situation to be in, on every level. Rather extreme, I must say. What an incredible heart and spirit Arturo "Thunder" Gatti possessed, to be sure, and what a true exponent of the Sweet Science. R.I.P Arturo Gatti. 🌄⚔️♾️ Absolute max respect.
Special, both these fellas, the respect they had for each other created a bond that's the epitomy of sportsmanship and class that just highlights both their character's.. This trilogy is hands down not only one of the best in boxing, but it transcends throughout any sporting event . It was a privledge!
I teach tennis and look to tell my pupils if you want to know what guts and determination looks like , then this trilogy is a must watch. Some understand, some watch, some never do. I always admire a boxers discipline and work ethic. Life lessons can be learnt from these two no matter what field you are in. They are amazing people.
Both were so even and had great trainers, they might have not been the most talented but I never seen 2 with more heart that’s for sure. Miss these 2. R.I.P. gatti, champ
I miss him so bad it is excruciating hurt. Arturo definitely was the ultimate throwback. His three wars with Mickey Ward like the three wars with Rocky Graciano and Tony (The Man of Steel Zale) middleweight fights back in the thirties.
Both fighters obviously had incredible heart, but the way Gatti broke his hand and still managed to will his way to victory is one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen in my life. This fight in the trilogy is so underrated. So many fighters have given up on the stool and Gatti STILL threw his broken hand as hard as he could the entire fight.
Ive watched this Trilogy of 2 Warriors give everything. It wells me up with so much emotion that in a Gladiatorial sport i saw something so profound and Beautiful.
Amazing, what a fight! Luv these guys, true warriors.. salute to Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti for giving us these 3 amazing fights.. rest in peace Arturo
I was lucky enough to watch Gatti fight in Atlantic City, one where Ward was also in his corner - after the trilogy. Ward signed a $20 bill for me, and I was excited to have it.
I watch this trilogy over and over again. Rest in peace great champion Arturo
Same with me.I don't think there will be someone like Gatti again.
YEP!!! NO DOUBT the Greatest Trilogy of ALL Time!!! Thanks HBO for giving us a Wonderful Memory!!!
Yup, I've seen all 3 fights over 10x each. Gatti/Ward and Hagler/Hearns wars were next level. Crazy heart

What an incredible heart and spirit Arturo "Thunder" Gatti possessed, to be sure, and what a true exponent of the Sweet Science.
R.I.P Arturo Gatti.
🌄⚔️♾️
Absolute max respect.
Classic...the ending was the best...love it...
Arturo may Our Lord keep you beside him. And you too Irish.
WHAT A LEGEND NEVER FORGOTTON REST WELL SIR ARTURO GATTI,ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS..
Special, both these fellas, the respect they had for each other created a bond that's the epitomy of sportsmanship and class that just highlights both their character's.. This trilogy is hands down not only one of the best in boxing, but it transcends throughout any sporting event . It was a privledge!
I'm Mexican, and the Irish and Italians will fight till the end. Holy shit! Nothing but respect
This never gets old 👍
I'm in tears, Gattis coach what do want to do, I can go on gatti says, what absolute warriors.
Это чудо что ы жили и видили битва двух гигантов спосибо гатти что ты был и майку поклон
The GREATEST TRILOGY in the history of boxing thanks thunder⚡️ vs irish🍀 🥊🥊🥊
I miss him so bad it is excruciating hurt. Arturo definitely was the ultimate throwback. His three wars with Mickey Ward like the three wars with Rocky Graciano and Tony (The Man of Steel Zale) middleweight fights back in the thirties.
“My hand, I’ve broke my hand”
“What do you want me to do?”
“I’ve gotta keep going!”
Fucking warrior!
All boxers of this Era need to watch and take what these two men showed. And the origin of what boxing is truly about!
A fight that will be talked about when all of us are long dead. Those fights gained them glory.
Amazing!
True Warriors 💪🏻💪🏻
RIP Gatti
One of my favourite fights of all time! 💯

Mcgirt is incredible...the two warriors are phenomenal....just astonishing these three fights....
I was lucky enough to watch Gatti fight in Atlantic City, one where Ward was also in his corner - after the trilogy. Ward signed a $20 bill for me, and I was excited to have it.
I wish there was a documentary on ward vs Gatti told by ward
Ward's book is great
Greatest fight of all time may you rest in peace great warrior ARTURO GATTI
As an MMA fan, this awesome trilogy reminds me of the banger of a trilogy in *Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard.* Amazing stuff!
