    You can also use it topically for lice, mites, fleas and ticks! It will also control flies in the manure.Great stuff!

      Oh wow, if you start way back there, you'll have a lot to watch through, and my editing skills have definitely improved over time. :)

    DE works by drying out insects exoskeletons as well as having its sharp edges cut them speeding up the process. So if it gets wet, i.e saliva/stomach liquids it is ineffective.

    I am giving this to my chickens now,but i didn't realize you were supposed to give it for 7 days

    • @LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm
      @LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seven Days is for deworming, has something to do with the life cycle of internal parasites. With chickens, it’s more for mites and external bugs and things in their bedding and nesting boxes. At least that’s my understanding.

    I've seen people use chickens to eat over the manure to control maggots and flies. Is that safe? Will chickens not get worms?

      I'm not sure, so I did a little Google search and found this helpful article!

    I feed ever day to dog, cat, rabbits, and chickens (no longer have the horses) when I stop using it for 30 days you feel and see difference in there coats. Also use garlic, pumpkin seeds, golden rod, cat nip, horseradish leaves (chickens) and worm wood if found good source for it. Could you show us around town (don't have use the name of the town)

      +Gamingcritter Good tips, thanks!
      Yeah, I can do that sometime. It's a real small town, one blinking red light, one stoplight.

    So would this be safe for small dog and feral cats too?

    Oh I forgot to mention that Worm Wood does work. Hence its name. But it is mildly toxic so its use should be limited. God Bless

    We use herbs, pumpkin seeds and apple cider vinegar in their water as needed.

      +Tonya Jones Pumpkin seeds! great idea. What herbs do you use? Do you only use these when you see evidence of worms or how do you determine when they are needed. I'm very new to farming and welcome suggestions, especially for natural methods.

      We are hoping for a good pumpkin / squash crop where the pigs were rotated through last year. Wondering what will sprout up.

    There is some controversy about whether this harms humans and animals who consume it.

    Can this D.E be used on cattle as well?

    • @LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm
      @LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Marlon Goden yes! You can get food grade D.E. (Diatomaceous earth) at most feed stores. All of our livestock and pets get it in their food the first week of every month. The fowl (chickens, ducks, and geese) get it in their bedding, dirt bath areas, and nesting boxes to help with mite control.

      Cattle stomachs are better suited for a plant based dewormer. DE can be used as a preventative, but it's not nearly as effective by itself. Have you tried the only Herbal Dewormer that tests better than chemical wormers? Try it: www.ramheadsupply.com/products/herbal-wormer ...also, the B+V Organic Antibiotic Supplement is great to have on hand too.

    Don't you mean DE-Worming?

    • @LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm
      @LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see what you did there!
      But yes, I do mean to get rid of the worms. Which folks in this part call "worming".
