  • We have had several contacts on how we naturally worm our sheep and chickens so we made this video. Enjoy and please share any animal health ideas with the community you are doing on your homestead!! Animals are a big part of our homestead and costs can get high if you rely on a vet to keep them heathly.

Good info, thanks for sharing. Good tip and using the ACV with DE... i.e. put in the ACV first, then the DE. We used to be able to get hard red winter wheat cheaply... it's an effective way to get the protein level up for chicken feed. It made a huge difference over the winter months in laying production for us.

Thanks for sharing the idea on wheat. Maybe an option to buy some out of the field from a local farmer? Shalom!

Hi I found your channel now and watching your video. If you mix DE in your feed it should always be dry. When its wet it means nothing. Its the dry DE that is potent to worms etc. Shoukd never be wet

Hello. So, i enjoy yur vids. I wanted to share a tip for yur chickens and Winter feedings: cook up oatmeal so it is the consistancy that will ALMOST hold a spoon upright. Add red pepper flakes. Do this 3-4 times a week. Not every day. They do need a little rest during the Winter. Also, increasing the corn in their feed for cold temp months, only, helps. U dont want to add too much as it can build fat up in their bodies, and around their organs (heart attacks are real for them, for instance). I hav found a descent level of egg production as well as better heat for their bodies. Chickens put out 5 btu's of heat each! Wow. I just wanted to share. I live in one of the coldest areas of lower Michigan. Many yrs and no issues as of yet.
Pumpkins and their seeds are also another great natural alternative. Good for all birds (not sure ducks enjoy the pumpkin itself as much..lol) and for goats n sheep, too. This is another treat ad well as a great deworming option.
Another option for the chickens is fermented feed. It is literally yur feed and water. The good probiotics and good bacterias hav phenomenal health benefits. I hav a system that they are fed this every day. I only feed wat they will eat within a 15/20 min timeframe. Perfect for Winter, as well. Alongside the oatmeal, they hav a great positive immune system. No issues as of yet :)
(Also, metal reacts to the vinegar and the fermentation. It shud not be used. If u absolutely need to, the quicker the better.)
I love learning new things, tho. Ty for yur vids! U rock! From one homesteader to another.

DE doesn't kill strongyloides. Do you have any advice for that?
    Thanks.

Kelp gives iodine. Kale prevents iodine absorption, just the opposite.

thank you for the video I get Thorvin which is the kep organic $70 for @50# for my goats sheep chicks and calves and l duck. I sold a buck just yesterday to a couple that had to put their buck down because the vet said he had kidney stones which damaged his tube completely and the vet faulted alfalfa. Have you ever heard of that. Everywhere I have read people say Nubian goats or dairy goats need alfalfa?

you mite want to build a small rack and put some old lawn mower wheels on to set the bucket on sideways and spin it to mix the feed could save you some time.

we only have a handful of sheep, can i make this mixture the same ratio/amount and store for longer throughout the week, or will the A.C.V. break down the alfalfa pellets over the course of the week? thanks.

I think you will be ok with mixing up several days at a time.
