I swear this was the one comment I needed to see. ESP cause I’m looking at dachshund specifically. My breeder said it’s a good idea and worked well in her experience. Even when I’m only getting one puppy from her so I know it’s not biased.

      @ko7302 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@allmotion_noluck It is a challenge. The problem is they get too bonded. The puppies have to respect you and see you as more important then there siblings. Also have to be trained properly including potty training. Its twice the amount of work. If you can handle this and do it correctly it can work out. I successfully have trained my littermates they are female too. You have to be prepared on what to do if they have a fight ect.

@@kayleighcallahan8154 that breeder is trying to make money off of you. As a breeder myself I would never adopt out 2 puppies to one person... please research more and also if you do this... make sure you get 2 runts or 1 runt and 1 pick preferably male and female. ....

Thats what we did, pick and runt, built up the confidence of the runt and set different expectations for the pick when young. Each had their job to do and training to complete independent and mixed through year 1. Teaching them how to play, giving zoomie time and when to stop/adjust play. These line australian shepherds choose human snuggles and training over each other most of the time and don't get jealous of attention anymore. Patience and consistency [from all family members].

It's really not a thing when done right. I've had 4 pairs through my life with huge success. They are actually easier to deal with than non littermates. What they say about one waiting to train is simply not true you can train them both together they will mostly follow each other around. They see one being rewarded and they will copy out of jealousy to also get rewarded, also easy to let them eat together etc there is not an issue if done correct. They absolutely do not have any issues with bonding in the family. As for one being dominant that happens with 2 or more dogs every time you have 2 or more it is no different or more serious. Again I've had 4 pairs of littermates from 6-8 weeks until 12-17 years. I will always try to get littermates, again 2 puppies growing up together that aren't littermates is almost no different you will compare how quick they learn things
What they did say that was correct and surprised me when I had 3 dogs the first time is 3 dogs are MUCH different than 2.

This, I've raised single puppies in the past and currently raising/training two white lab littermates right now. They're 4 months old and doing absolutely phenomenal. While my situation may not be as easy as the next persons, I feel the information related to "littermate syndrome" is inflated. Can there be behavioral issues down the road, sure but I'm a firm believer that would be the owner/trainers fault. There's no such thing as a bad dog but there certainly can be a bad owner/trainer.

I had 2 female litter mate beagles. I trained them on rabbits. They did good but I had an adult beagle already trained and when training sessions took place it was one at a time but the wife and daughter played with one while I trained the other. So it definitely helped so that I was able to focus on the one being trained instead of trying to train both at the same time. They did spend time together but there time was limited together for play time together and sleep. And during hunts after the first few trips out putting them with the adult together they followed him and learned from him. They both ended up doing very well. If it was a different situation where I couldn't do it the exact same way, then I agree it would have been very difficult

Littermates are fine if you know how to train them, how to spend time with them, together and individually. I have two GSP littermates. They are quite compatible. The girl is a surperb hunter. The boy is very good. Initially, they were trained separately but now they go out together. They LOVE to run in the woods for miles in their free time. They are very close. However, if one were to "go" before the other, after some grieving it would be okay.

I have two standard schnauzers, one litter apart. Mine is male and my girlfriend’s is female. For the most part they get along very well, they play hard but they are not aggressive towards each other. We live in separate homes but for the most part we spend a lot of time together rather it be her home or mine and we take them wherever we go so they spend a lot of time together. They drink water and feed together so no food aggression(thankfully) they do pretty good with sharing. The female is a bit more anxious compared to my male schnauzer. She’s a bit possessive over toys but no aggression towards her brother, just a lot of tug of war lol. My male teases her with toys cause he wants to play. They can get a little rowdy but they eventually settle down. Laying with both of them right now. Mine is about 14 months and she’s 6-7 months. I can definitely see some of the points you guys made something we deal with but it’s manageable. She takes her time with hers and I’ve spent a lot of time with my male over the year so I guess we give them a good amount of space and time to allow training. (Mine is smarter 😌) lol. But both are very intelligent cool pups.

Having litter mates may be hard on you the owner but it is happier for them. Your worried about the two bonding with each other more than you? I'm glad my two bond with each other, what are you jealous of them? When one dies before the other it is a rough time no doubt but if they are used to having a sibling around all the time you quickly find them another friend to bond with to help them be distracted from their loss. It works. And you spend more time with the survivor until you find them a new friend too.

For working dogs, hunting dogs, or dogs that do sports or high level obedience, it's not good if the dog becomes too "doggy". To train a dog to a high level the human needs to be the most important thing in their life. This is accomplished by building a strong relationship through play and training. If the dog is obsessed with other dogs, especially a dog that it's known longer than their human, it can limit how much drive the dog has for working. For people who are serious about hunting or competing, having dogs that constantly "check out" in the field or ring is a dealbreaker. Maybe it doesn't matter so much if the dogs weigh 10 lbs dripping wet and don't do anything besides lie on the sofa all day, but even then it can create problems if they hit puberty and start fighting (or attempt to make babies).
Also, for what it's worth, I think it's crueler to expect another dog to be the source of entertainment and comfort for my dog. My late dog was obsessed with her older "brother", but when she was rehomed to me I couldn't take them both (relatives wanted him but not her) and of course she was terribly stressed to become an only dog. That began our journey together doing obedience and nosework, traveling the world, and growing as a team until she passed away in my arms at age 12. It may have been selfish of me, but I think she had a more fulfilling life being the center of my attention than being an afterthought...dog #2...in a household where the most enriching activity was a walk around the block once every 72 hours.

I saw in your video one puppy was typical liver/white, but the other pup looks black and white. Is this something new with the breed? I got my pup as a rescue (3 1/2 months) from a person that had no clue how much attention a GSP needs and how much energy they have. It only took 2 weeks and they hated him. One gets a reward the other doesn't teaches them very quickly. The only issue I've had is if they aren't separated much they will 100% get depressed and mopey when they are separated. Again I've had 4 sets of littermates 2 in my home at the same time. 2 littermate puppy struggles is not any different than having 2 non littermate puppies near the same age. Yes there are lots of issues with having 2 puppies at once but it's not any different if they are or are not littermates is my point. So "littermate syndrome" simply does not exist.

One dog is a house dog the other is likes being outside. I promise y’all the dogs will balance out . They both have their own food and water bowls. They are awesome don’t be afraid to get 2 they don’t back down from eachother and they are friendly . We do not allow them to get jealous but they do have pack rules when they use the restroom. Treat them the same and their personality will show. Walking them together is not a good idea. If they see another dog they will not hesitate to go hurt the other dog.

If you’re raising siblings and you have a hard time you’re probably doing it wrong. They should never sleep together. They shouldn’t be left alone together(only for play time). And they should be fed simultaneously because the alpha dog eats first( the owner). I’ve raised two sets of siblings and never had a problem. And the last set was 3 years ago. Also take them on individual walks and use them as training sessions. When I raised my sets of siblings they only spent about 4ish hours a day together.

You can use a piece of food to lure your puppy into position starting from day one. Or well, perhaps day two or three would be better since the first day in a new place can be a bit overwhelming. As long as you keep training sessions short and sweet they'll benefit even a very young puppy.

Maybe in some instances but in my case I had a liter of puppies I kept a brother and sister as a years went all they became my only dogs older dogs passing away and all they kept each other entertained the brother would wake me up and cry when his sister needed to go out they loved each other they protected each other my boy Sam my male Staffordshire was very upset when his sister passed away and when he passed away I lost the most faithful dog I've ever owned he loved me he only took orders from me and he did exactly what I told him when I told him every time. Edit/it helped having their mom and uncle which were also littermates to help raise them the older dogs did a lot of correcting for me while I was at work maybe I just got good genetics maybe I got lucky but I always got compliments on my ability to control my animals and how well behaved they were

Some very valid points, I had a litter of my spaniel and kept 2 bitches. It worked for me but I wouldn't advice for anyone with full-time job. I have alot of time. Drop kids to school then home and take dogs out for quick run, then 1on1 training for each. Then out on evening again. Personalities are completely different one prefers retrieving and one prefers flushing it's perfect for me as i take them on beating line on pheasant shoots. It's what I love. I probably wouldn't do it again 😂 since iv 3 dogs already but planning on getting a bigger breed next possibly gsp

Very good points made. Having the time to raise/train them well is a crucial piece, as is having realistic expectations when having 2 littermates. My two Boxers are sisters/littermates and raised by an experienced dog owner/stay at home mom, my wife. Both assumed their roles: an Alpha & a Bravo, without any real harm. Their training did not come without challenges, but nothing unmanageable to experienced dog owners. They are both best buddies and continue to do well: one more docile and the other more outgoing/aggressive, making for a very good balance. Thanks for the video, good stuff.

We got two littermates, a bitch and dog cocker.
It was exhausting for two months, but we made sure they were sleeping in separate crates during the 12 to 16 week-old window, and they always had walks separately until they were a bit older.
It definitely helps that they can play with each other though. They're 14 months now, and still do silly things like lay upside down jousting mouths, every so often. Neither is particularly dominant, though when off lead on a walk the bitch tends to follow the dog. It probably helps that he's a big softy.

Ours allow the other to lead depending on the thing. Its cool watching them negotiate. We dont put up with pushiness, or them correcting each other, so they learned that kindness and both doing what is expected is the fastest way for them to have fun and get treats!

Love ya'll channel but I'm gonna disagree with this one. Last two times I went in search of a dog, I came home with littermates (all hounds). Lots of work, sure. But I always think a pair is better than one, and spending a lot of time training two puppies at the same time is imminently better (for me anyway) than training a puppy every couple years. Mine are always adoptions, so I just can't seem to ever walk away with one.

I too come from hounds and my preferred number was 3. That said, I still always staggered my dogs with 2 years in between for all of the reasons listed. Obedience is not as expected from a hound beyond a strong recall, but a good confident skilled hound comes from plenty of solo work as a pup. Your older dog becomes a teaching aid in the kennel and field.

Just a technical note, it looks like the audio is gated a bit too slowly in this video. After a pause in talking then resuming there's half a second no audio. Increasing the speed in your gate. Example at 6:40 "battle for ....ition"

I have littermates - a brother and a sister German Shepherd. They are currently just over 3 months and a handful. We have them in training but if we had learned about littermates before, we would not of adopted 2. We love them both, and have committed ourselves with training but we do have a full time jobs, kids and we both work from home. It's a lot of work and if you think for one second it may be too much it probably is. Learn as much as you can before adopting littermates and good luck!

We got littermates because the desperately need a home and it was not fun. So we would send one puppy at a time to a family member to bond with the other then switch them. They are now 9 months and they are doing great lucky one is dominant and the other very submissive. I would never do it again.

I didn’t do litter mates for a while cause I was told time and again not to. They will bond to much and not get trained well or work well together. But then I got a shepherd puppy, and a friend did, but he couldn’t keep him, so I took him. I worked off the information I know was bad. So I trained them at time separately, and or with my other mature pups. Socializing, work training I went about like normal. I have other pups and after a few weeks I can leave them be with the others and they find their crew or set of other pups. Theirs always clicks in packs. I also recommend after some time have them clipped. Once you get their sex drive down aggression and fighting if it happens usually stops. I think each situation is different. I will say, I have done it one other time, both went well. Both fell right in. Time wise I don’t recommend it. I’m on my land daily all day so I can put time in, I can correct them more. So time is why not to.

I haven't watched your video I'll watch it later when I got time just my two cents the only problem I had with litter mates was when one did something bad the other did it they followed each other one was a digger one tore up furniture when they were together they would join in on each other's bad behavior I had a zero tolerance attitude towards bad s*** with spankings and or separation into a box or kennel and by box I mean dog crate it took me about 18 months ended up having really good dogs for 12 years I miss them everyday

Great video haven't watched the whole thing yet but I have a couple questions maybe you can help me. So I had the father Teddy you years later I bought him Bella. It was great they really fell in love well they had a litter of pups we sold all those. Then they have another letter of pops a couple years later my mother helped Bella through the birthing process and got super attached so she wanted me to keep all of the pups to girls 4 boys. What of the females passed away at 2 or 3 days old. So now my sister has one of the boys and the sister but lived, I have the mom the dad and the 3 brothers.. Very complicated very hard I take care of my mother she loves the dogs but the boys have an issue they won't mess with their dad and he doesn't want anything to do with them anyway he will not play with them or really give them time of day. But 3 boys say even brow all the Sun it's a free-for-all fight and the dad will jump in there I think hes trying to stop the fight ends up 1 or 2 of them are being ganged up on... Angel and curb this is my major issue I love them so much but I have to keep them separated because Kirby is very consistent on beating angel of all the time for no reason. On the other hand sometimes they get along for 2 or 3 weeks maybe even a month and they play together they sleep with me in my bed everything just fine but they get scared very easily they are a terrier and Bichon breed of dog.
    mixed breed.
Currently I absolutely have to keep those 2 from being in contact where the others can be out together with either one angel or Kirby and everything seems to be OK as long as angel in Kirby are not together.. There smalle dogs from 12 to 18 pounds maybe.. Kirby kicks angels but every time hes a little taller and a lot faster angel is short like his dad Kirby is a twin to his dad except his tall white his mother.. I love them all so much I call them my granddaddy's but I will afraid if I don't get help I'm gonna have to find a new home for Kirby.
I voice text miss message forgive me for any typos if there's any way that I can get a phone call or email been a phone call and get whatever you think the best advice is of something I could do so I can keep them or Just fine Kirby a new home which will truly break my heart I spoil them all always bringing them toys and trees I tried to give them all equal attention May follow each other around marking everything literally in A-line..
Thanks for your time my email address is. daleurban4258@gmail.com

I've had 2 sets of litter mates. My first ones were about 4 years ago. They were amazing. The only problem I had with them were that, even though they bonded great with me, but also bonded strong with each other. The only problem was that one passed away, and the other almost grieved itself to death. I have a new pair of litter mates now, got them early Dec. . They are doing great 4 weeks later. Both have been potty trained, leash trained, know a couple commands, do good in their carriers. They have good bonds with each other and with me, and with the other former litter mate. They are even socializing great with the 2 cats here. BTW I wouldnt compair my two dogs with each other any more than I would have my 2 sons. They both excell in their own ways and are individuals.
