  • Welcome to Standing Stone Kennels! Want to train your dog to come to you no matter what? Here is the one of the first steps we take with all of our dogs to begin formal recalling. We utilize an e-collar on vibrate or the tone setting to initiate the negative reinforcement. Once the dog has completed the recall they will receive positive reinforcement via praise and or a clicker.

    I trained my puppy to vibrate and he recalls very well even when he's mid rabbit chase.

    I use tone to recall my dogs, my ecollar also has different tones. He's sure is a sweet little guy.

    One of my favorite puppies, ever! I love his happy-go-lucky disposition and his overall excitement. :-) With that said, my rescued GWP is 16 months old. She's a real sweetheart UNTIL a bird (or a bat!) are in view and then it's all bets off. Would you recommend the daily training collar or the one recommended for out hunting?

      Thanks for watching! That depends on how much freedom you let har have. If you are doing free running we would recommend something with a longer range on it such as www.standingstonesupply.com/store?store-page=H2O-1820-PLUS-Remote-Dog-Training-Collar-p296673683

    I've got a 2yr old GSP x who is pretty well trained aside from his terrible off-lead recall. He will often run 30 meters away / play keep away, and always trys to take the opportunity to slip out of the property and run down to the beach. With a long line he has great recall, but something switches when hes fully off lead. Do you think its too late to try and start e collar training for him?

    I love this training. I have 4 GSP and my youngest is the same age as Hex. I am working with him on healing and woah. He has been to puppy school with our breeder and trainer and has had collar training. Should a collar be used at all times or only in the field and when training? I have seen both.

    We have a 16 Week Crazy Siberian Husky. Our second Husky. So we are familiar with the breed. My question is, at what age can we use an E Collar with our pup.

    I am a huge fan of your training techniques and how much you share with your videos. I am on my second Shorthair and currently 12 week old female. I am wondering, do you have a "checklist" steps in training your pups? I have watched and started with clicker training but am wondering where to go next and for the next few months before putting the ecollar on her. Any guidance is appreciated!

    I just started working with my 8 month old GSP on collar conditioning. I wanted to make sure I get a decent collar before I collar condition. So I started looking into y’all’s. Then after awhile I decided I better pick one up. I was just wondering if I started too late with him?

    Out of curiosity, why do you start with conditioning tone/vibrate and not just a low level stim? Wouldn't this double the work when you want to start using stim?

    • @FAFObozo
      @FAFObozo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the point of conditioning is to introduce the low level stim to the dog positively. Then you can introduce the tone or vibrate as an option with the stim as the reinforcement. No point in using an e collar as a safety if you can't get the dog's attention when it really matters or if you're afraid of using the stim. Setting people up for catastrophic failure in my opinion.

    Im starting this collar conditioning on my gsp who is 1 year old and the vibration really scares her if I want to make sure im not messing up the process and still keeping the experience positive should I try to do tone instead? If so do I do the same thing and hold down the tone button?

    I’ve started my wirehair on the vibrate but he runs away from me when activated. Prior to he hand recalls well on the clicker but is really not comfortable with the vibration. Suggestions?

      Couple things, maybe utilize some type of food reward or try using tone. If you need more help reach out to us on www.patreon.com/StandingStoneKennels

      Dave, some dogs find vibration much more aversive than stimulation, both of my Labs included. Whereas low-level stimulation may cause an eye blink or an ear flick (if that), vibration may cause a clear startle response e.g. jumping or trying to run away from it. Either way, introduction to it while on the long line/leash to communicate what that sensation means is important, and I'd definitely pair it with food. Worth what you paid there...

      @williamkorn7982 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Boykin did the same thing. I stopped using the collar for 4 months and then tried again the last couple weeks.I don’t do it the same way this video does tho. I only vibrate when I need her to stop doing something. The constant vibration until she came to me was not working at all.

      @@adamw4469 thanks. I have him on a check cord and have been using food. I'll give it another go in a few weeks, perhaps use tone. He already recalls very well without the collar, I may end up using it for stimulus here and there when he doesn't listen in the field.

    Hey, it doesnt seem like youre worried about leash chewing. Is that a concern to you? Or, at his age, is it more "puppies will be puppies"? If you address it later, what age?

    • @StandingStoneKennels
      @StandingStoneKennels  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Leash chewing should be discouraged. In training sessions, sometimes we have to pick and choose what to handle or correct. In this situation, it’s less about age and more about this training session! Great question!

  • @seansovereign5569
    @seansovereign5569 ปีที่แล้ว

    What are the next steps?? More of the same type of thing? How do you transition to taking to collar off entirely and relying on “here” alone? I used this method on my in-laws untrained 2year old GSP and he’s flawless with the collar but none responsive to commands at all without it.

    • @StandingStoneKennels
      @StandingStoneKennels  ปีที่แล้ว

      If we are in a non controlled situation (hunting, park, ect) we always have a collar on. Fenced in yard is where you would want to work on the recall without an e-collar

    • @FAFObozo
      @FAFObozo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's part of the reason for the dog having the collar on when you're not using it and preventing collar awareness. Also, randomize rewards as well as making sure to always enforce any commands that are disregarded by correcting the dog. Never allow them to ignore you or you won't be able to trust them off leash.
