@Nahid Islam the M1 MacBook is a very very capable machine. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs a laptop and can put up with MacOS. ARM on Windows is a joke. No Windows machine over $400 should have an ARM processor.

This whole thing was so painful to watch.
It's not like he hasn't shown HP laptops before that were more business-oriented, but the difference then was they weren't paying him, they only sent the machines and gave no other demands or compensation... And he was fair, he obviously isn't the target market and neither is the audience but he did acknowledge the features that make them a good recommendation for people like me that buy dozens of laptops every year for my company. In corporate purchasing, price isn't really a problem... the going rate is the going rate, we spend average about $1200USD per user every 3 years (this includes the 3 year warranty and accessories like docks if required, though we just about have full deployment of USB-C docks for every desk now). It's an entirely different matter when HP hands him two bags, one of money and one of crap and tells him he needs to sell the latter if he wants to keep the former.

@@W1ldTangent you know, I do understand the whole "this isn't targeted towards normal consumers" As an IT Professional I do understand this, but then there are Users and ARM, which still isn't what it could be..
But even that isn't my problem.
My problem is, that I don't feel like Linus even stands behind this Product, therefor the showcase of this also feels like a money grab.
The only good thing about this showcase is, that he didn't outright recommend it.

Ya, linus made it look like Windows on ARM is usable. Totally understating the shortcomings
Usually other sponsored videos have a product that Linus seems to think is at least *fine*, maybe not something he's crazy about, but something that someone out there might buy and legit be happy with. Something clearly went wrong with the negotiations here and some piece of paper was signed too early and LTT was obligated to make a video for a product that is overpriced and to boot; required to have weird talking points like wipe resistance.

@@RicardoSilva-wo8sw For some workload it can be. But for those spec and that price? No. on the go work laptop is a 2in1 chromebook. Online stores says it's $700 with an i7 in it, so it still packs a punch when using the linux portion. And it lasts for 12 hours easily on battery. Also has a very respectable display.
And then HP is here marketting a device 1.5 times the cost, for 2x battery life, and just about worse everything else?

I would not agree on that. While ARM is not the perfect CPU, it does have one big advantage over x86. It uses 3.7 volts. Basically, we are looking at a 4x more battery efficiency if they use the same battery size, just because the chipset uses less power. If we think of it the other way around the battery improvement becomes mind blowing. A cellphone can last more than a day on normal use. Now, we are taking the cellphones CPU/chipset and strapping it to something that can fit a battery about 10 times the size of a cellphone battery. So we should see a tenfold improvement. Let us now be conservative and say that the improvement would be 7 fold accounting for the larger screen, which I would assume uses more battery. That is still a full week's battery.

I don't see why Linus would have to pay the consequences when he followed everything they wanted him to do, and they're the ones who made a mistake. They wanted anyone searching for 24h battery life laptop to find this one and then have Linus introduce himself as a tech guru so the random people that don't know who Linus is would see him as a more trusted source.

No, that's Linus reading off of a teleprompter that isn't next to the camera like it usually is and also him getting flustered because he got ahead of himself and started ad libbing midway through about stuff he really liked about it and then ran into those talking points on the teleprompter later down the line. Granted, he was probably holding back the urge to scream "Don't buy this" the whole time but obviously he can't do that in a video like this. He could only give the subtle hint of "we will get to that point later" when mentioning the high price and why it's worth it and then not actually saying why its price is justified (because it's not) lol. I do dislike how he hints that it's good for gaming (probably a talking point he had to agree to) when it's actually a shitty option since most modern games can't run on ARM because of anti cheat programs not supporting it with their drivers (and a few other reasons). But he did mention that people only daily drove it for work reason and not for gaming, maybe thats a hint of his that it sucks at gaming but its far to subtle to be gotten by most people.
@@TheChemizzle Why the hell would they put the teleprompter beside the camera? That would make no sense. They definitely put it on the front of the camera where it’s meant to go. Also in what world does this laptop not suck?
@@williamjoyner2306 You can clearly see in a few of their phone reviews how they have it setup. They don't use a reflection setup to have a camera mounted in a teleprompter with a screen reflecting the script, they use side mounted ones and sometimes it's just a monitor. If you actually pay attention in scripted videos when he looks at the camera he side glances a lot any time he starts to slow his talking so he can read what he needs to say next (especially noticeable in ad reads, or on shortcircuit you can see the setup in the reflection on Riley's glasses). As for the laptop sucking, I never said it didn't, because it does (for gaming) and is overpriced for its usable functionality. The processor is great, for supported software, but it has a lot of downsides due to its x86/64 limitations which make it a bad option for day to day personal use, but in a business scenario if your software can run on it, it can easily handle most things and is far more convenient to use then a standard laptop. This wasn't made for gamers, it was made for business and it does that well, which is why it annoyed me that he mentioned it was good for gaming...because it isn't.

@@aditya_gupta iPhone has lower cost of ownership (the value decreases slower), so the iPhone 12 is actually much cheaper than a 799 USD android phone. The only major feature an iPhone 12 lacks is a high refresh screen, which is not significant to many (Inc. Me). If it had an LCD screen, it would've been poor value.

I would actually love this, as a programmer/designer who moves around a lot and needs to write notes often this is by far my favourite style of convertible and I don't even mind the lower power because I have a whole workstation back home. A light, sleek, easel style convertible laptop with a strong battery is exactly what I've been looking for.
But God, that price is unjustifiable.

Apple does ARM and ensures legacy apps run (Rosetta). Microsoft does ARM and just YOLOs it.
Don't forget you can play pleny of iOS games on the ARM Macs too
YOLO it is a strong word. Microsoft did have a ARM -> x64 translation layer, it just never did have the performance to be useful. Also, unlike Apple, Microsoft can't have specialized instruction in the hardware to have better performance since, you may have noticed, this is not a Microsoft product, but an HP one. (That being said, Microsoft could have make a deal with Qualcomm and other SoC manufacturer to have that kind of instruction)
But what about programs reliant on Open GL? What about programs that are 32-bit?
ALSO, you are ignoring one key difference. Apple is ditching Intel entirely, Microsoft has not yet announced any plans to ditch x86.
The big difference is that Apple has a huge amount of experience with ARM and designs their own silicon while Microsoft and their partners haven't dedicated the resources to a similar combined software-hardware solution. No custom hardware means the performance and compatibility will always be poor. It's a great move for Apple since they make their money by being the only source of hardware, software and services for Apple devices. Because they're the only sellers of Apple devices, they get an enormous amount of value by cutting Intel and Nvidia out of their products - all-Apple software, all-Apple hardware.
Microsoft doesn't get the same level of value because they make money selling software. Spending enormous amounts of resources on developing highly customized silicon for compatibility comparable to Apple's M1 won't pay off because it doesn't move copies of Windows or Office, OneDrive and Microsoft Teams subscriptions and won't suddenly give them the ability to sell enough devices (and thus avoid the costs of buying CPUs and GPUs from Intel, AMD and Nvidia) to justify it. OEMs that sell Windows devices also can't justify it because they only have a small slice of the Windows pie. And if a third party were to develop it, they'd have to undercut Intel, AMD and Nvidia in order for OEMs to buy it - which seems highly unlikely. It's not due to incompetence from Microsoft, but rather it's due to not selling both the hardware and the software anywhere near as much as Apple does. There's the Surface line, but they're not exactly selling like MacBooks, iMacs and iPad Pros.

Throughout this entire video, Linus' attitude makes it clear that he absolutely despises this laptop. Yes it's fancy, has a really nice magnetic hinge system and a decent keyboard. That's about it. Rest of the specs regarding their price is utter trash, and Linus didn't forget to throw some slick hints at the fact that he doesn't like it at all, but he's still taking HP's money nonetheless lol

The screen concept is fantastic, that part I love. But I wish the bottom part was more powerful and had some more ports. I'm not sure that battery life could be achieved with stronger hardware but it would be probably worth it. I will now try to find if HP or anyone else has made a laptop like what I describe.
