To answer your question, he did explain. The hwacha is an Asian device that was used in wars that fired about 200 arrows to weaken defences. I think they're usually tipped with explosives as well to do more damage.
They also take f*cking FOREVER to reload, to fit extra bolts into the slots. Hence why they fire about once in this game. It originated in Korea.

poachers got nerfed and archers got buffed. now you wanna get archers whenever you can, and poachers only in certain times. also footmen and shieldmen can lower to the ground from hwacha arrows, so most won't die and get back up. everything in this game has a counter

Jack, I know you probably knew already but since rifling (the screwy pattern in gun barrels that make the bullet go straighter) was not invented yet, musket balls were very inaccurate, and bullets rarely hit their target at range. that's why the muskets sometimes missed.

The fourth great battle of shields took place only a day later.
21 musketeers and a poacher from red took on another blue shield wall, the shieldmen rushed through the poacher, losing only two men. They were then devastated by the muskets, but this whole in the shield wall allowed the footmen to rush forward faster than the muskets could reload. The musketeers were slaughtered, and blue won again...
I honestly just LOVE these totally accurate battle simulator videos. When is the next one?

The gunpowder packs on the hwacha arrows arent explosives they are for propulsion. it shoots them like fireworks.
I think on Mythbusters they got the Hwacha to fire arrows with 2 gunpowder packs - one to launch and one to explode on impact. At least, I know they did a shop test for explosions on impact.
+LloydMarley Woodger Its been a while since I've seen that episode, so I could be wrong, but I think the second charges were set off with a fuse instead of on impact.

1. Were used in the Revolutionary War, not the civil war.
2. Are nearly impossible to aim with, soldiers just fired in the enemy's general direction and hoped they hit someone.
3. Have a reload speed of 10-20 seconds.
