Used Airalo for travel in India in January. Incredibly easy to install and utilize while travelling. My recommendation, buy more data than you think you'll need. This is a brilliant solution to international travel.
This will probably be nowhere near your most popular videos, but this is an incredibly useful one. Up and people get to travel more. It will be very nice to have this for reference. I also appreciate the fact that you showed us how to do it in basically real time
Love Airalo. Used them last year whne travelling across Europe. Setup both Android and iPhone and it was simple and just worked. Been telling everyone about it since!
Great Video. Honestly I saw a bunch of videos but none were as complete as this one. Really answered how it's actually setup and some of the limitations.
Great video Juan, as always having interesting conversations. Let me add to it: we Latinos are very fortunate with the entire data roaming conversation, to the point where we can find out curious why you guys even worry about roaming fees. Most carriers offer free roaming that simply consumes data from your monthly plan, while connected in other countries. My personal example: I travel through Latin and North America monthly for work,, and have really free roaming on my $19/mo plan with Movistar from Costa Rica. This lets me use my single SIM (or eSIM) in all the countries I go to. The only caveat is that it consumes my 18Gb of available data, but even after it runs out it's still unlimited at 256kbps (enough for text messaging anyway). Really makes you think that services like Airalo will only get cheaper in the future
This ain't that bad, Juan! Not bad at all! I will consider this whenever I travel abroad, not bad at all, especially billing only starts once it's connected to THAT network. This is great.
Having used Airalo last year in Europe I can also confirm how easy it was to install and use. Works well on iPhone and Android. I understand newer iPhones can accept up to 8 esim just in case you are travelling across multiple borders! Very useful video

Kept my visible call and text on and they are still active when i connect to wifi. Quite a nice solution!
I used airalo while I was in Finland last month and it worked great! I had my hesitations about it because it did seem a tad complicated but it was pretty easy, and worked great.
I live in Canada and my cell provider charges 12/day for roaming if I cross the border. I am heading to the USA next week which I can get 3GB of data for 11 dollars and it’s valid for 30 days. UK in April so I found out about Airalo and I am so happy I did. I was worried about getting a SIM card at the airport when I already have so much to think about. I only need the SIM card for 18days.
Are there any services out there that offer eSims that give you an actual local phone number for the country you are visiting, so people in that country can give you a call without using a social media app? For example, in Korea, you have to have a local Korean phone number to make reservations at a restaurant, or to use apps to order take-out. Some eSims give you a local number, but they are registered as a data number only in the country, not text and talk. It can not be used for such things as I mentioned.
I must have to say what a lovely voice you have!!! 💖💖💖 I’m checking this option but I don’t know how much gb to buy if I’m going to use it for some Google search and sometimes for Waze in a 5 week trip. I realize that at some point I’ll have to reloaded it but how much data do you recommend for the first 4 weeks? Thank you so much!!! 💖💖💖
It's the tough part, you probably just need to buy based on length of visit. The data PROBABLY won't matter as much, for daily communication. The more you use streaming or cloud services, the faster you'll nuke that data, but topping up more data isn't too bad.
Can I choose the 2gb/15 day plan if I just want to use it for 5 days? It's a better value than the 1gb/7 day option. There isn't a daily data limit right?
05:06 minutes into this video, 'phone is shown with what seems to be a very good phone-protector. Can you tell me which brand/model or where one can buy this phone-protector? Many thanks
Why did you cover up that carrier name? Is it because Airalo doesn't want you to know that you will get horrible pings and not true local sim cards? As can be seen by you having to enable data roaming on the "local" SIM and that speedtest with a ping of 160ms!! They just buy whatever the cheapest sim is, like from Malaysia for example that lets you connect in the country you want to resulting in horrible pings and wrong geolocation because all traffic gets routed through the native SIM country.
Yes like you said. We paid our operator Usa roaming and got no service in Usa. ( T mobil Usa). App is super and e-sim installing is done automatically. So Airalo save the day.
When using Airalo (or any other eSIM provider) I wonder if somebody can reach me using my carrier home telephone number assuming that the caller doesn't have any social media application installed.
This video made it look so easy! Then watched the Airalo tutorial for install and it’s extremely confusing! Numerous more steps than in this video. It also mentions to see let cellular data or mobile data. What’s the difference? 🤷♀️

Using iphone 14 max pro. Any info on if I can use an e-sim, switch to another e-sim for a few days, then go back to the original one? I am going to be traveling to the UK for 5 weeks. I'll get a 30day esim. About 2 weeks into using my UK esim, I'll be going to Scotland for a week. So i'll need to get the esim for Scotland for those 5 days. Then when I am back in the UK for the remainder of my trip, I'll go back to the esim for the UK. So my question is, will that UK esim still be valid and usable even though I stopped using it for a week? Hope that makes sense. Thanks !
It's not. I think of that as an "up to seven days" solution. Like maybe you're out for a weekender. It's practical, but a full FULL week, you'd probably step up to the next level.
Thank you for sharing the detail Juan. I will be travelling to the USA in the near future and want to try the eSim option for the trip instead of the traditional way to buy a SIM card at the local carriers. Question for you, for a peace of mind to avoid being charged roaming by my home country cellular carrier, should I remove the SIM card entirely while I am in the USA? I am afraid I may accidentally forget to keep "Airplane Mode" on while I am in the States. What is your thought?
Quick question: Is it better to buy and activate the Esim right before you leave your home country or wait until you arrive in your target county and activate the Esim there?
Just went through this and chose to buy and activate/install right before departure. Airalo needs a stable connection to get things setup so best to do in a more controlled environment. Worked out great and i was connected before our plane parked at the terminal.
You actually have to install and activate prior to your trip. Once this is done, you can use your phone like nothing has changed when you're in a different country. In my case, I forwarded my regular phone calls to google voice. No problem using it in Hong Kong, Taipei, Korea and Philippines.

@SomeGadgetGuy, I used to have metro pcs and the customer service on the phone told me that they lock the sim card to the device that is being on the network , they told me that everytime you wanna take the sim card out and put it in another phone you have to call customer service even with the physical sim card, basically this is what the e-sims are already doing it. By putting the metro pcs sim card in another device, the phone calls and mobile data don't work, you are required to call the customer service with metro pcs to swap between phones with there physical sim cards even when use your own unlock phone with metro pcs. I hope it does not come to the point that the carriers lock the e-sim to the carrier, for example if someone was using Verizon and Verizon decided that they want to lock the e-sim because they signed up for service and to unlock there phone, they would need to be locked into the account for 3 years now instead of 2 like it used to be or the other alternative would to be buying the phone outright even if the phone cost $1,000 plus tax and fees than charge a fee to unlock the e-sim. It's why I don't sign up for post paid service anymore because the post paid service changed from 2 years to 3 years and there are a bunch of fees that and taxes that the carrier puts on there customers.
