Mizuno state that the MP225 is for low to mid handicap golfers but as a 17 handicapper I can confirm that I hit my 225's out the middle more often than I have hit any club before. I think the smaller head concentrates the mind on finding the middle more easily than it does when you have a bigger headed club. As far as I am concerned, they are a lovely looking club, feel fantastic and have improved my game considerably. I hope to be sub 15 before the winter.
Golf Galaxy had a free Mizuno iron fitting special a couple weeks ago. I was absolutely shocked that I could call my shot 90% of the time during the 1-2 second delay waiting for the simulator to catch up. I could feel where it was mis-hit, and the strikes in the middle of the club face felt like butter. Went back to the range with my old clubs and couldn’t predict a thing. Very impressed with the 225’s and when I’m ready for a true fitting next year, these will be the ones I hope make the cut!
Yeah that's the funny thing about marketing. I game Zx7s and I am the very definition of a high handicapper. I think these players irons are best for people wanting to improve though. Allows me to work out the kinks in my swings without hiding the flaws and my progress has been remarkable so far.
I am a high handicap player. I just got the Calaway Max ST OS irons. These clubs give the high handicap player all kinds of help, forgiveness and confidence. Highly recommend 👍.
I agree. I picked up a 9 iron and PW and love how they feel and the results. More distance and control even on off center strikes. Pretty amazing irons.
Yep! Just got a set myself and once I saw the title to this video I would’ve bet money the Rogue ST Max OS would’ve been on the list. Might a paid for review not having the Callaway and even a TM in the mix.
I love my G710 irons. I've been able to drop my handicap from 20 to near 15 just this summer. They have very little feel but that's the tradeoff for how unbelievably forgiving they are. I even got my first hole in one with them.
Got my Takomo 101's this year and love them! I got fitted to Titleist T300's and used the specs to custom order my 101's. I'm getting 10-15 extra on yardage and hitting them straighter than straight for $489 delivered.
lol. Just got fitted for some G710’s last night. Bought myself a 7 a few months ago just to test them out and I absolutely love it. Figured I should get fitted for the rest of the set if I’m gonna drop so much money on them. Gonna start getting lessons within the next few months too. The fact that they’ve been on the market for 2 years now and still haven’t gone on sale (while others like the G425 have) is crazy.

Hi James, I am disappointed that the Srixon ZX4 didnt make your list - During my fitting, I must of tried just about every manufacturer and shaft combination. I did go into the fitting with the cobra's in mind. However, the ZX4's were far more consistent in both distance and direction, they really felt great when striking the ball. Even the bad shots were better. I have had them for 7 weeks now and already shaved 3 points off my handicap. Keep up the great work.

I'm a 10 handicap 3x week golfer - Ping 425 (too clicky), PXG 0211 (too big), Mizuno 225 (off center hits were a miss), Callaway Rogue ST (clickyish, but playable but look like cr@p after 10 rounds) - I've played each of these for a minimum of three months but the best of the bunch are the Cobra Forged Tec X. No comparison.

You suprised there. Ping are releasing the new G430 range but not updated the G710 for which I use & love. I didn't think it would be on your list being it was so old, released Jan 2020. Even though Ping is expensive in Australia they are a good investment as they would last easily 10 years plus and they don't chop and change every year so you don't feel deflated after 6 months when other companies release a new range & have the old range is on sale.

@@chrisimes478 I totally agree with you man. I can not imagine a more forgiving iron. Gives you a ton of confidence looking down at it and makes a solid strike. I wish Takomo had a uk distribution centre so you wouldn’t have to deal with the variable import taxes that can range from 15% to 40% I think that’s what will put a lot of people off getting them, I stopped buying things from overseas for that reason.
I like Tour Edge clubs: bang for $! I often think that the one thing high and mid handicappers have in common is their desire to lower their handicap. If technology can help, then why not use it to your advantage. For me buying a set of irons doesn't make sense. Many mid to high handicap players have average to slow swing speeds. The irons in the 20-30 degree loft range often have the carry distances that bunch up. In my view most would be better off blending in hybrids, or hybrid -irons in the 20-30+ loft range and then adding in irons in their bag for the 110 yard shots and less. I can never understand why looks should influence club choice over function. If I can reliably hit the ball to the desired length with a club, I don't care if it is ugly. In my bag I have a Driver, 4 wood, 7 Wood, Single length 19 hybrid, 27 hybrid, 29 & 33 TE iron-hybrids, then single length 8-LW. You can order Tour Edge iron-hybrids with 1.5 flat lie angle to combat the " lefts" from off set.
@@JamesRobinsonGolf I’d like to see MP-32s vs. Mizuno Pro 223s. Obviously the 223s ought to be much more forgiving but it’d be great to really dive into the comparison between a modern, techy players’ cavity vs. an absolutely classic old-school blade and see how dramatic those differences really are and how it plays out on the course.
@@JamesRobinsonGolf compare them against another cheap older set that others may want to get in the second hand market and also compare them to a newer more expensive model to help us gauge an understanding of value for $ and performance. Cheers!
@@JamesRobinsonGolf Maybe compare them to your current gamers loft for loft to see if there’s any significant difference in forgiveness/distance. Or compare to the Takomo for an older secondhand classic vs new budget for those looking for value
Going for a fitting in October at Mizuno performance centre at Birkdale. Really fancy the MP225 but at £1200 compared to £500 Takomo I’m having 2nd thoughts. Just wish I could try the Takomo’s before I buy them
Have the 225's about 3 months now. Played most of that time with damaged tendons, even then they were seriously good. Drop the 4 iron to save a few pounds.
I knew Takomo would be in there somewhere but wasn't sure if you'd pick the 101 or 101T. Trying to decide between 101s and the Tour Edge C722s at the moment personally.
No music please! Your videos are of top notch production. If you want to play intro music, that’s fine, as is closing music at the end of the video. But “in video” music is just distracting and when it is the same little diddy over and over again, it is not only distracting, but actually annoying.
Why no Callaway? I prefer the Callaway lineup. I'm playing the Apex 21 and love them. (14 HCP) I really like your videos, quality material with your respected opinion. Keep up the great work.
any chance of doing a video comparing irons with the same degrees of loft as opposed to reviewing just various brands of 6 irons . In other words you might review a P790 7 iron against a i525 6 iron as both have the same loft
Great review but a bit surprised you chose the Mizuno 225 over the JPX921 Forged or Hot Metal Pro. The latter two should be more suited for mid to high handicappers. I'd love to hear why you chose the 225 over those as I'm getting new irons soon. Time to retire my 2008 Titleist AP2's. Love your channel!
I was handed down a set of AP2's with stiff shafts, but I'm too novice to use them. I'm curious if you've found love with another set of irons, relatively speaking. Thanks!
The AP2 are great clubs but not ideal for beginners. If you’re having trouble hitting the sweet spot consistently I’d suggest a game improvement iron. I just ordered Mizuno hot metal pros but if you don’t want to spend that much you can probably find the prior model on sale to save some money
Hi Ya James, is the answer low spin for what is common with these irons? I find trouble with them not sticking to the greens when using a 7 iron or lower (5-7 especially) if ya hit it them a little low and don't get that high launch. These are a great class of irons and fun to play!

What’s the difference between G710 and G430 irons?
All the OEMs that make these type of irons 5 stars to you I think these type of irons are brilliant for all levels
Great point Pete!
I ditched the forgiving irons for blades and my scores are coming down 20 handicap titliest mb 716
What ever happened to the mp-32’s? Would like to see how they stack up to todays best players irons
Best clubs ever released. I still have a set! Wanna see a video? Compared against what?
I really like the sound of the Takomo irons, problem is where can i try them? can i get fitted for them??
They do online fitting u think
I think
Going for a fitting in October at Mizuno performance centre at Birkdale. Really fancy the MP225 but at £1200 compared to £500 Takomo I’m having 2nd thoughts. Just wish I could try the Takomo’s before I buy them
Love it! Enjoy
@@JamesRobinsonGolf Hi James , can u confirm you’ve been messaging me regarding winning so Takomo irons ?
Have the 225's about 3 months now. Played most of that time with damaged tendons, even then they were seriously good. Drop the 4 iron to save a few pounds.
@@mcstout9 I ended up getting fitted for JPX 923 HM . Received them yesterday so I’ve just been in the nets with them 👌
@@stephencarlisle3743 enjoy them lad, can't go wrong with Mizuno
I knew Takomo would be in there somewhere but wasn't sure if you'd pick the 101 or 101T. Trying to decide between 101s and the Tour Edge C722s at the moment personally.
Tough choice!!!
Very interesting. Thank you!!
Great review .. only one issue Ping dont sell the g710 anymore ?
They do online?
Great video James! Would love to hear your thoughts on the Cobra Air-X irons!
My cobra king one lengths have been a game saver
Is there a top 5 irons for the Mid Handicap Marks’ of the world next Coach? Remember, not a camerawoman but a Cinematographer!
Hahahaa coming soon!
The Tour Exotics C722 look good with less offset.
Yessssss
No music please! Your videos are of top notch production. If you want to play intro music, that’s fine, as is closing music at the end of the video. But “in video” music is just distracting and when it is the same little diddy over and over again, it is not only distracting, but actually annoying.
Fantastic video James. They are all hollow body
YESSSS
How do the ping g425 irons compare to the ping g710? I thought the 425s were the newest iteration to the G irons
Just a tad smaller buddy and less forgiving
Why no Callaway? I prefer the Callaway lineup. I'm playing the Apex 21 and love them. (14 HCP) I really like your videos, quality material with your respected opinion. Keep up the great work.
Any feedback on the ZX5 irons? I’ve been looking into those as a 20 handicap
No PXG 0211 James? Great deal and performance.
Good shout! Just difficult to try!
any chance of doing a video comparing irons with the same degrees of loft as opposed to reviewing just various brands of 6 irons . In other words you might review a P790 7 iron against a i525 6 iron as both have the same loft
Absolutely buddy
Srixon ZX4, my choice.
Great shout
Great review but a bit surprised you chose the Mizuno 225 over the JPX921 Forged or Hot Metal Pro. The latter two should be more suited for mid to high handicappers. I'd love to hear why you chose the 225 over those as I'm getting new irons soon. Time to retire my 2008 Titleist AP2's. Love your channel!
I thought this too. I have the Hot Metals and they're very much awesome. 16 handicapper here.
@@michaelg2166 Just as I thought. Thanks for the confirmation, which is helpful.
Ping g710 ❤❤❤❤ love them so much. Get compliments from everybody on the course just based on their looks. And they feel sooo amazing to hit!
The PXG 0211 are so slept on
Hi Ya James, is the answer low spin for what is common with these irons? I find trouble with them not sticking to the greens when using a 7 iron or lower (5-7 especially) if ya hit it them a little low and don't get that high launch. These are a great class of irons and fun to play!
Most forgiving for me are the Titleist 620mb 😂 only lose 20 yards on bad shots 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Have you ever tested the Tour Edge Hot Launch E522 or Cleveland Launcher XL Halo irons?
The cleveland xl halos are the best irons for high handicappers, no question.
Put them up against any of the irons in this list and it blows them away
Hi , James I looked at what the pros on the pga tour was using I saw that the second most used iron was the ping i210 ? What do you think , I saw you did a review a while back thoughts on them now ?
Mizuno JPX 921 pro should be in the top 3
Where- WHERE can I buy the Tacoma 101??
No luck! I do not see a link where to buy these irons.
I’ve seen the Takomo clubs on your channel before and am curious if you’ve ever reviewed any Sub70 clubs? Very similar companies and clubs it seems and would enjoy hearing your opinions.
I game the Sub70 699’s. Love ‘em.
Yeh I need to get hold of some. I’ve struggled to get any that’s been the issue.
@@everybodydothebartman7413 which shaft are you rocking?
@@jesterxfan I’ve got the Modus NS pro 120 stiff shaft. Made sense when I got them but I’ve aged a couple years/had a shoulder injury since buying them and think I might look at swapping out.
@@JamesRobinsonGolfthat’s surprising. Their customer service team has been super responsive, they got a club testing program (US ONLY) and seem like they would be keen to get the exposure. Maybe try contacting her sub70 Canada. I played with their Vancouver rep and I bet he would hook you up.
🔥🔥🔥
🔥
Cool video but what was the name of the number 2 club???
Hi James did u ever test the tour edge 721 irons if so how did u find them .I've just hit some and they feel awesome .
Would like to know your thoughts on srixon ZX5 irons
Really enjoy your videos. I've been looking at Tomoko however I didn't know they had tungsten in them which is a feature I do like in hollow body irons. I went to their website but couldn't see any specs that said they did have tungsten. Just curious.
I thought the PXG 0211 was going to be number 1.
Great video James! Time for me to check out Takomo 101's!
Thanks Paul!
Got mine this year and could not be happier! Top name performance for 1/2 the price... how can you go wrong?!?
Jame...Great content, as usual.
Is the Ping twice as good as the Takomo 101? I'm guessing no, so why would anyone spend twice as much for only a marginal difference, if that?
Thanks buddy!!! And great shout!
I'm definitely going to try those G710's out next time I had to Carls Golf land! Thank you for the video!
Xxio? My favorite!
Great shout! I’m yet to try!
📝 make 📝 irons 📝 with 📝 black 📝 finish
Hahahahahaha love this
Tried several brands in the summer cobra ltd X worked best for me they were forgiving and long for me so went for those.
@Jamesrobinson018?
Do you recommend getting fitted for mid handicaps?
Absolutely buddy! Depending on how much your changing and improving
Are the TM P790s or the callaway rogue st max good irons for beginners? Been eyeing them both up and leaning more towards the TM's
What no Sub 70 irons!!Why not try Eleven hybrid irons James.
I’m desperate to try them buddy!
