I enjoyed this immensely. God how I love the great state of Nevada!! It’s weird bc I was born and raised east coast but I would always draw mountainous desert scenes with cacti and sagebrush as a kid. Go figure. Thank you for posting! New subscriber🤙🏽
Great videos! I am a 43 year resident of Reno and I'm relishing the memories you bring back. These probably don't warrant a full video but an honorable mention with a brief history would be appreciated, like 'The Shy Clown; now known as Baldinis. Or the 'Waver"! (Whatever happened to that guy)? And one of my old favorites, The Liberty Bell! Best steaks in Nevada and Clamper owned!
Nice job brother! When I started doing adventure videos, I wasn't very good at telling the story! It was mostly B-Roll footage. You have the story nailed! I've got to do more research! Love your content and how much more comfortable you're getting as you go!
I've never heard of that sad story before. A couple of years ago my brother and I drove from Fort Churchill on Fort Churchill Rd to Virginia City and passed right by Susan's Bluff.
I did quite a bit of work with Bruce Industries in Dayton used to go to the gun range there that is pretty cool! I trust the Native version of the story...
I literally drive by Susan's Bluff every day for the past 20 years. I work on ft. Churchill road. I've heard this story before. Often I imagine the story as I look up there.
The photo of Mark Twain might have been taken from very near where you're sitting. The doorways line up, at least. Great episode. Thank you for the info.
He left Nevada as a resident as a young man - he returned a couple of times in his later years for speaking engagements (he's old in this photo), so it would have had to have been on one of those trips. Cheers!
wow, i've never heard this story or of this location before. i'm kind of surprised that the tales are not reversed -- that the Paiute story maintains that she jumped, and the settlers' story says she was thrown over. But anyway, wow. As far as Mark Twain goes, it looks like he's right in front of those two doors that are right behind you in the video, doesn't it? Interested to have you get to the bottom of that story, too.
Hmmmmm.... If you could gather a whole bunch of people together to walk shoulder-to-shoulder along the slope below the bluff, it could be possible to find the remnants of the supposed mortar and pestle that may have been thrown over the cliff. They may not have shattered to the point they were unrecognizable.
I would venture to "guess" based on the shear tenacity of those pioneers (my family being part of them) would not go quietly into the night...so, I'm thinking there was most probably a physical altercation leading to her death, and perhaps she was discarded over the edge to cover up the death.

SUPER GREAT SHOW!!! KEEP IT COMING!!!!!
absolutely loved the video and story!
Excellent recounting of the tragic tale, as always! Also, I dig the Reverend Horton Heat shirt.
Thanks! Love me some Rev!
Interesting story, thanks
Thanx for watching!

Great ideas - thanx!
Thanks for bringing us along on this journey. There's two sides to every story, and the truth lies somewhere in between.
I enjoy your videos. I also went on that Jeep trip in 2004 across the Black Rock Desert.

Beautiful desert scenery there - lucky you!

Quite interesting..
Hmm.
I wonder if there are any traces of the graves or the tools Susan tossed over.
There's lots of 'private property' signage around there so not sure I want to get into that! ;-)

These were tough people indeed!
