Poor Little Rich Girl was a very interesting movie about Barbara Hutton, the granddaughter and heiress to the vast FW Woolworth's fortune. Worthwhile watching.
I met her when I was young. She had a summer home on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I won’t say the town. I didn’t find out who she was until I got older. She was such a nice person. She let us swim in her pool anytime. Some of my best memories as a kid were over there. I met Carter at the Red Parrot disco in Manhattan on New Year's Eve 81/82. We were both alone and so struck up a conversation. He was quiet and subdued. I was happy to have someone to talk to. He seemed depressed and so I tried and tried to cheer him up, but to no avail. Poor Carter.
Gloria Vanderbilt had four sons. Two sets of sons with 2 different husbands. Anderson is one of three sons who survived her. Her two older sons are Leopold & Christopher Stokowski choose to live very private lives. This is not a secret, yet this narrator makes it seem like Anderson is her last son.

There is that quote, "The First generation creates the fortune, the second generation sustains it, and the third generation squanders it." Well the latter generations certainly squandered that fortune. Having castles built and homes with 8 hundred rooms. Unless you are going to build a hotel or a hospital, 8 hundred is absurd.
Every family has a legacy & story behind them. Some are long lasting & carry on forever & some just fade & die away. It’s resilience, substance, strength & ability to forge ahead & not let any weakness bring you down. Family is important especially the family that belongs to you from your own line like your children & of course your 4 legged friends your pets that love you unconditionally. Anderson is lucky to have his own line in his beautiful sons.
An interesting, "What if?" aside from the Vanderbilt story is that Gloria Vanderbilt's aunt Lady Thelma Furness. the twin sister of her mother (also named Gloria), was the romantic partner of the Duke of Windsor. At the time, he was the Prince of Wales and next in line to the British throne. When Lady Furness came back to America to support Gloria's mother in her trial, she told her friend, Wallis Simpson, "Take good care of the Little Man," i.e. the Prince of Wales. Had Lady Furness stayed in London is it possible that Anderson Cooper's great uncle may have been King Edward VIII, later the Duke of Windsor?
Ive always liked Anderson Cooper! We are (VERY) distantly related to the Vanderbilts! My Dad told me that when I was VERY young and when I did our genealogy- its truth! Course, Daddy also used to tuck us girls in telling us we are true Irish Princesses as direct descendants of Brian Boru.......this one ended up not being fiction
My family has a great letter from the Vanderbilts, as they were friends. Personally written from THE Vanderbilts. It was concerning NOT dropping the VAN from our family name. Mrs. Vanderbilt explained, in personal stationary, why our family should keep the "Van." They were dear friends trying to settle and she thought keeping the prefix was important. My family thought dropping it would be more American. Just interesting. My family was not near as wealthy, but were ship builders and remarkable Dutch Carpenters. They kept the odd Dutch name, after all. Also, a family member...died in the Vanderbilt Estates, NC.
Don't kid yourselves, there are still very rich Vanderbilts. Anderson Cooper would not have made it in the news world without his mother's influence and friends.
If your saying Anderson was not smart enough tc o do it on his own, and counted in his mama to use her influence to get where he is than what CD did your mama do for to get where you are?
Biltmore is actually owned by the Cecil family. Cornielia Vanderbilt (George Vanderbilts daughter) married John Francis Amherst Cecil and have had numerous offspring. It is still owned by them today. If you aren't familiar, George Vanderbilt is Cornelius Vanderbilt's youngest son (also Gloria's Uncle).
I may be wrong, but I understood you to say that Carter wrote, "Families", however, Wyatt wrote "Families" which was a fictious account individuals from his growing up years in Mississippi.
It's my understanding that none of her children inherited her fortune. Anderson has said before that Gloria told him she wasn't leaving him anything in her will because she wanted him to work for all he had and to create his own legacy and wealth.
I absolutely LOVE the boy's hair color, it is an attractive quality. Also, the fact that he kept his name Cooper and not the famous one :) I am 44 years old this year and I remember being in elementary school and we watched some series of free news for elementary schools called "Channel One" he was a host and so was Lisa Ling, I never knew he was an heir to a fortune, just thought he was cool for giving news to youth :)
Very good, just a bit scattered in the beginning. The information that one of Gloria's sons did not inherit any money from his mother doesn't take into account that they had just reconciled and he had distanced himself for about 50+ years from her and the family for unknown reasons. I'm happy they reunited, but it seems from all I've read he wanted nothing to do with the Vanderbilt legacy, name or money and was happier living a quiet life behind the scenes. I find it fascinating that not even a recent photo can be show of Christopher Stukowsi especially with a mother, Gloria and Father Leopold, being so famous. It's reported he works as a conductor under an assumed name to remain unknown. Sadly, Stan and Christopher didn't grow up with a Gloria who had learned how to properly parent until after she was remarried to Wyatt Cooper. Perhaps this made a big difference in how the dynamics were and they were often torn between two homes, the mother and father were divorced. It is reported that her son, Leopold Stan Stukowsi inherited her most valuable assets, her property. Gloria left her personal property and it's assets to Stan whom one can easily find photos of and who was featured in the documentary: Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt & Anderson Cooper 2016 www.imdb.com/title/tt5275872/ I've always found Gloria very separate from most of the Vanderbilt of her era. Yes, she did live with her Aunt, but from the ages 10 to 17 a mere 7 years. Her 1st 10 years were with her distant mother and very close Nanny and Grandmother Morgan. Her Grandmother Morgan continued to play a role in her life during those years as did her mother whom she saw weekly and was distant and aloof. Gloria Vanderbilt was a unique, strong, amazing and talented woman I admire. She raised good children and learned how to parent, something she never had and found a husband she felt safe with, her father died when she was 1 month old. I hope her legacy lives on. I hope all of her 3 surviving children thrive in this world as life is not easy even if you have money and certainly when so much tragedy surrounds you.
Truly sad 😥 The name actually Mention was more than just Money' the name Mentioned..was Class And grandeur of icons.. Allowing the name and Family to just simply Be gone from history Is utter 😳shameful Every one knows the Name: The Vanderbilts.... It ment a dream as A fairytale of happiness It is truly sad how this.. Anderson must do something Somehow bring the name Back...
Well, they aren’t the last heirs as most of the brothers have children, the name will go on and it will be fascinating to see how they fare in the future. Very interesting family indeed.
Although not directly associated with this family narrative, we might recall that the progenitor of it, non other than Reginald Claypoooole Vanderbilt ('Reggie' to his friends) himself, did serve as inspiration for the birth of Reginald van Gleason III, respectful and obedient son of Reginald Sedgwick van Gleason II and, Mildred ne Morgan van Gleason !! And as with that very first Reggie -- he of the vaunted Claypooooles themselves -- the later van Gleason III too, was of that madcap playboy sort; he, after much work at it, having then attained the singular distinction of "hands-down PRIDE" of the New York 400 !! All seriousness being aside now, Gloria Vanderbilt and Jackie Gleason (he having taken-on the near impossible and gargantuan task of 'being' van Gleason III) actually knew one another quite well! Learning of this, I've always since wondered if it might have been she who gave Jackie Gleason the idea for his sort-of reenactment of Reginald Claypoooole, her father? Perhaps it is to prove that Anderson per se, has in-fact information on this most vital of subjects. As to this, we MUST find-out. (Y-T has available for viewing, a R.v.G.III film displaying a rare view of him presiding over (controlling) an exclusive garden party attended by some of those said N.Y. 400. The sheer moving elegance of its entire truly, is to prove as inspiring to any viewing it, no doubt. Apply here for its link.)
After watching this I am no wiser at all as to why so little money (relatively) is left out of the vast fortunes of the early Vanderbilts. What is the old saying? "Clogs to clogs in three generations?"
Whether one is rich or poor grief affects everyone the same. Loss of ones child has to be never ending . My sister lost her son when he was 52. It does not make any difference if your child is 2 or 52 her pain was horrific. She attends a grief support group and has helped. I try to always talk about him.. People feel if they bring up the person who died the family member will feel bad.. the family member wants to talk about that person, they existed they were part of a family.
She left it to him! (NOT that he needed it S he is very wealthy in his own right) but he was her only living heir as far as direct line descendants.....
I also brought a lot of Gloria Vanderbilt brand of clothes through the 1980’s. Has some of most favorite, still have them & very well cared for … if interested in buying contact me …
A person can be on top of the world but yet at the same time so unhappy I find it sad that the young person took their life life is a gift we should never want to throw away the gift. How many people commit suicide you cannot undo this mistake. Life is a gift
Being in these families very often can not be what people think it is. I talked to a tutor who tutored rich people's children. He said he knew one family where the parents pounded the personality out of their son and daughter until neither one of them had one. One family had a son who was a troll. He lost his job when he was 50 because it was when the computer age came about and he could not catch on to it. It was not a problem because Dad supported him However he learned enough where he found the "Love of his Life" on the internet. About a year later he died of blood poisoning. Body was creamated. The wife did it and got his home and cash. Another family he worked for, he said that the family did not believe self confidence would be of much use to their children. Daughter was scared of every thing. She later inherited everything when the parents died, but she doen't know how to enjoy herself. Another familiy he worked for he found out later that the kid he taught committed suicide at age thirty. He said his father was a womanizer. Sigmund Freud warned wealthy families about hiring people to take care of their children. He said that they are hiring employees and it's not a 100%.

We mention this in the video
Thank you for clarifying as the documentary implies that Anderson was the last heir.
Anderson is just her youngest son!
@@oldmoneyluxuryThe older brothers want their privacy and you have not intruded upon that . Cooper when he interviewed his mother , also protected their privacy . You have done the right thing .

I didn't know Gloria had 2 older sons, huh! I do like Anderson, he's such a class act.
Yes, he is!
Gloria was married 4 times. The older two boys are from her second marriage and Anderson and Carter are from her 4th marriage.

I still have and wear 2 pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. 🤗
I own four pairs. The oldest is 16 years come August 2024.
That's very good. Happy you have them
Thanks for posting this interesting history of Gloria Vanderbilt and her family. I had no idea she was right there and had to witness her son jumping from the balcony, any mother's worst nightmare.
Carter was so handsome. You can see in his pictures how happy he was. Anderson has always struck me as a most refined gentleman.
Thank you for the information! Now I know the story of the vanderbilt's.. i wish you the best Anderson Cooper & children.
I enjoyed this video. I learned a lot about the Vanderbilts.
I’m happy where I am in life. Don’t want wealth or notoriety. Sorry for their Tragedies. Bucket list is to see the roses in North Carolina. Glad to see Anderson getting on in life. Seems nice fella.

I fell in love with Anderson Cooper after that New Orleans flood. I was worried he would get sick after staying into that water for so long. Blessings
Hi I am sorry for Cooper lost brother, that is all I have to say.
For a few years I cleaned house for a Vanderbilt family member. No names but she is a pretty nice woman, her family is her everything!
This was really good. Thank you so much for doing this series
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you loved the story I did not know anything you told about. Thank you again.
Family is important especially the family that belongs to you from
your own line like your children & of course your 4 legged friends your pets that love you unconditionally.
Anderson is lucky to have his own line in his beautiful sons.
There are more Vanderbilt heirs than Gloria Vanderbilt's four children.
Do tell please, elaborate...."Isa"
A neighbor of mine in Los Angeles was descended from them . Their house wasn't the Biltmore; it was about 4000 sq ft.
Do you think it's about the last who will inherit money that directly descended from Cornelius Vanderbilt? I don't know.
@@SwissS3E The house in Los Angeles where the Vanderbilt descendants lived had lots of things that came from the Biltmore house.
Exactly!
Nothing compares to losing someone who knows what your heartbeat sounds like from the inside.
Unlikely as Thelma had something of a ‘reputation’.

I live in Asheville…. Born here and raised here..I have long dead relatives that worked on the estate..
Love the video, Anderson is such a gem as a journalist.
Have to think about the last heirs to a family etc.
The Vanderbuilt rabbit hole is one of the most horrific ones out there
Ive always liked Anderson Cooper!
Well, your Daddy didn’t lie. You girls were his princesses. 😊
What powerful story.
Van means' from'. It is Dutch, They were originally from that part of Holland "Vanderbilt'.
Don't kid yourselves, there are still very rich Vanderbilts. Anderson Cooper would not have made it in the news world without his mother's influence and friends.
at 20 millions per year for salary......to repeat what reuters tells him to say.....
However, the opportunity door was opened and he walked through WITH education, talent and experience! He proved himself.
If your saying Anderson was not smart enough tc o do it on his own, and counted in his mama to use her influence to get where he is than what CD did your mama do for to get where you are?
So glad we have you to school us.
@@DyannBHe seems like he may be a decent human.
Thank you for posting this amazing content 🎉🎉
I like Anderson Cooper and think he does a great job anchoring and other segments. Money and family fame humbled him through tragedies!
The last thing one could say is that Anderson Cooper is humble. He is a self-righteous prig.
Money does not bring happiness only God can fill that void people have in their lives. Trust Jesus❤🌿
Yuck. You are indoctrinated into a cult selling you fear mongering and disillusionment of retribution for non participation or belief. Wake up!

I may be wrong, but I understood you to say that Carter wrote, "Families", however, Wyatt wrote "Families" which was a fictious account individuals from his growing up years in Mississippi.
Yes I had Vanderbilt jeans . Nice fit though , miss that

It’s unfortunate the first 2 sons didn’t inherit anything. I understand not wanting the limelight but they were Gloria’s children too.
It's my understanding that none of her children inherited her fortune. Anderson has said before that Gloria told him she wasn't leaving him anything in her will because she wanted him to work for all he had and to create his own legacy and wealth.
This was their choice. They didn't want it. Just as they do not want to be hounded by the media.
Gloria left her personal property and it's assets to Stan whom one can easily find photos of and who was featured in the documentary:
Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt & Anderson Cooper 2016
www.imdb.com/title/tt5275872/
I've always found Gloria very separate from most of the Vanderbilt of her era.
Gloria wasn’t known for her motherly instincts. She cared more about high society. This video is one sided.
Very informative video, for those who can focus and pay attention.
✔💯😃Exactly‼
The Vanderbilt family should not be admired for what they had done behind the curtain.
TRUTH COMING ! WE ARE NOT IGNORANT !
Do tell....
I agree
Truly sad 😥

Mention was more than
just Money' the name
Mentioned..was Class
And grandeur of icons..
Allowing the name and
Family to just simply
Be gone from history
Is utter 😳shameful

Name: The Vanderbilts....
It ment a dream as
A fairytale of happiness
It is truly sad how this..
Anderson must do something
Somehow bring the name
Back...
Well, they aren’t the last heirs as most of the brothers have children, the name will go on and it will be fascinating to see how they fare in the future. Very interesting family indeed.
They won't be getting any of the Vanderbilt money.

You do know there is a great deal of info and history to be found on line
Because the earlier ones spent all of their inherited wealth.
Pay attention
Whether one is rich or poor grief affects everyone the same.
Loss of ones child has to be never ending . My sister lost her son when he was 52. It does not make any difference if your child is 2 or 52 her pain was horrific.
She attends a grief support group and has helped. I try to always talk about him.. People feel if they bring up the person who died the family member will feel bad.. the family member wants to talk about that person, they existed they were part of a family.
My understanding was that Andersons mother left him no money. I am pretty sure I read an article to that effect.
She left it to him! (NOT that he needed it S he is very wealthy in his own right) but he was her only living heir as far as direct line descendants.....
I read that as well, l guess at the end she changed her mind.
It was discussed in a video done by Anderson and his mother. No one no matter who you are is entitled to anything but what you earn.

True
