We came into the house and my mom was chatting with the bodyguard as she made coffee for him. Whenever we went to their home the bodyguard was always present. Your video brought back those memories.
Loved your program on Harrah. That establishment both Reno and Tahoe were a part of my life for a long time. From the mid 60s to the mid 70s Harrah's helped put me through my final college years and supplemented my meager teaching salary in the summers. They also helped in my in-between job voids. After Mr. Harrah died and Holiday Inn bought Harrah’s, it was still run by Bob Ring substantially the same. I started working there in 1983 and was amazed by how well the company treated employees who were loyal to the company and upheld the high standards required. At the time, Harrah*s was the best casino in Reno. It was Harrah’s who showed other companies such as the Peppermill and the Eldorado how to run a casino .Harrahs didn go to “shit” until Phil Satre hired Gary Loveman as CEO. His trick only worked for a while until the pressure put on employees was unbearable. I enjoyed my 28 years there.
Great job Steve. Very thorough. I worked at Harrah's Tahoe from 1976-1983. I was there when Bill was still in charge and then when Holiday Inn took over. And yes it was a great place to work. Very structured and great people. Always packed. Every celebrity of the time played there. And note, he also had a beautiful boat for the celebrities to ride in. Wow. Sam Butera and the Witnesses were performing at Harrah's 5:07. Harold's Club was knocked over by Brian Keith et al. in "Five Against the House". The Harrah's Auto Museum was a real experience. He had various models of the same make lined up next to each other.
