  • As far out as one can get in the continental United States is a place tethered to nothing other than the open skies, dramatic landscapes, and a deep feeling of freedom. Removed from the stresses and restraints of the cities is a community living by their own rules. Today, we meet up with a local character named Will, who shows us what living out here is like in rural Utah and why he can't imagine it any other way.

As a Southern Utah resident, just on the western side of the state, the area he took you through is absolutely one of my favorite areas of the state! He's not kidding when he says it's an extremely remote area with minimal services... And that's a great thing!! That's where I love to go to escape civilization. I also grew up very similarly to him, only in CT. Anyone who's ever lived in the Tri-State area knows how hectic things are and what a lack of a moral compass there really is there. That was the most telling thing for me too when I moved to Utah was that there really was value on human life and a solid moral compass.. This is one of the many reasons I've stayed here, along with the unbelievable natural beauty! He's definitely a bit more hardcore than me though doing the van life. I give him a lot of props, but he's chosen an incredible area to hang out in!

When I was facing my worst demons of PTSD, and nobody wanted me around, I didn't trust anyone, and the entire world was on fire, I found the most peace in the desert. The darkest nights, the brightest days, no one to offer you advice or criticize you. The comfort of your life is what you can think of to make it comfortable. You really see what you can do without while seeing what you really want.

We all own that land and entrust management agencies to regulate commercial activity in order to preserve and protect it. Pirates are selfish and don't truly care about the places they trample.

Don't get me wrong, mormons are very nice people, but they keep to their own. A very great lifestyle for someone who prefers isolation, but very hard for a mother like myself, who needs support from a larger community. I live somewhere similar, in terms of ruralness, lack of formal law enforcement, and community policing. We have the elected sheriff (and no deputies) for ~65 square miles of county. There was a man who was rumored to have raped a girl. The girl was definitely raped, the sheriff couldn't peg him for it, but he'd apparently been bragging about it at the local bar the next day. A few weeks later he was found floating in the river and just loaded with lead. Sheriff ruled it a hunting accident and never bothered to investigate.
The vigilanty/community justice Will talks about is super real in places without police.

I didn’t watch more of the video to see that giant sign of the cave…. 💀🤦🏽‍♂️ but it only took me 3 min to find the town… I wouldn’t name it like some others just to respect the guy and for Peter showing us this cool place.. I have no idea why people are judging this man and talking trash. Sure Peter showed lots of landmarks I’m assuming from what people say in the comments but it’s like a campsite no one wants to share to keep it pristine. If you fine it that’s fine and dandy but not everyone has that curiosity but to go search. Stop judging the man and just look at how he lives. This guy is just a vanlifer in and around one spot. No issues with this dude. I’m happy to see this place.

I liked that Peter asked Will where the nearest hospital is, was told it was about an hour and a half if you speed, then the next thing you see is Peter on the back of a dirtbike. So much of this was so familiar. Will sounds like a guy that anyone who loves the outdoors would like. I would move there in a heartbeat, but my wife said no. I have some amazing memories and stories from that town and the kindness of strangers there. One year in particular I hold close to my heart. It was my birthday, middle of December, I'd been out in the desert for weeks hiking and exploring alone, and showed up in town in need of a haircut and laundry. From the generosity of the towns folks, after my haircut, I got a free night at the Towns Inn, when they learned it was my birthday, and as there was no laundromat in town, I did my laundry in the bathtub. My birthday surprises continued when I got free coffee at the cafe the next morning. I spend a lot of time around this town, so many places to explore if you are good with a rugged environment, and it holds a fond spot in my heart for sure. Thanks townsfolk, I miss those of you that have left.

Interesting example once again on one of these United States of America! Thanks Will and Peter for a glance at it! The fact is, "every" state in America has a rural influence... a path less traveled, seemingly rarely ever traveled! I can truly appreciate and be thankful for them! They are definitely found tho... you just have to have the will and the tenacity to find them!
In my 60's now and, what a wild ride it's been thus far! I highly recommend everyone get off the beaten path... experience our great Nation and, its people. After having done that, I recommend folks go further into other Nations of this World! A 22 year career in the military afforded me the opportunity to see quite a few of them and, the experience is just as amazing! My thankful response/attitude and sincere appreciation is that I have been to more Nations of the World than states within our USA and, I've been to 48 of the 50 the states of our Nation [and several of our territories]! The appropriate disposition is the same regardless (one that I truly see in Peter)... come to them with genuine reverence and respect... get there with welcoming understanding of the culture and it people. It may seem unlikely but, the military teaches you that reverence too (or it did during my time anyway!)... to be a proud ambassador of the United States while traveling in other nations.
Be a "Child of Life" and be thankful for every moment you are able to experience! No-one is assured their time on this Earth.
Peace be with y'all always ... and, in all ways!~

Mitragyna Speciosa Kratom Plant saved me from a ridiculous heavy legal pill (opioids) addiction. Ive been Sober since 2017. Kratom is a plant thats legal in most states in the USA . It works so well and cheaply the powers that be (Pharma ?) are trying to discredit it. Kratom pulls you out of withdrawal and can have pain relieving and sedating effects in larger doses. You can take to much and it will make you feel dizzy lightheaded blurred vision and its not a good feeling to me. If you take to much (abuse) allergy meds or cough syrup or many other medications its not a fun feeling unlike the legal pills were at first. Used even semi wisely its so much better than being addicted to the alleged cure pills like Buprenorphine or any of the dangerous addictive treatments prescribed today by expensive doctors and expensive medications to replace a drug very similar chemically and in its addictive potential. These cures using pills like Buprenorphine only switch your addictive substance to another addictive toxic substance. Kratom is also addictive but its all natural plant derived and pennies on the dollar compared to US AMA cures . Big Pharma must always get paid. First i get addicted to there synthetic Opioids (Oxycodone) then they sell you an expensive cure pill (Buprenorphine) which you have to take daily or face worse withdrawals than the Oxycodone it replaced. How does any of that make sense ? Kratom i take twice daily or whenever i feel bad and i am able to function like a regular person. Kratom has saved many people read all you can about it . Keep in mind the source because there is a lot of negative propaganda about it from uninformed people. Read the reddit forums or whatever social media you want but listen to actual users both good and bad reviews although there are fewer by far negative reviews because this plant has helped so many people with the only downside at least for me is having to take it daily as it does have some withdrawals if you just quit taking it. Coffee does this Sugar does this many things we use daily will have some side effects as well as withdrawals if you just stop taking it daily we just call them cravings or coffee headache’s some other socially excepted term. Kratom is from Asia and is grown and used in many countries and cultures as a pain killer and probably other uses. In the last 5 years it has been sold in smoke shops across America. I buy my Kratom in bulk rather than the ridiculously overpriced smoke shop varieties. Unfortunately smoke shops also sell Kratom extracts which are concentrated and IMHO serve no useful purpose because like anything more isnt always better. If you have read this far then maybe you will do a proper thorough internet search and look at both sides of this plants properties and responsible usage. Here is the actual name to start your research …. Mitragyna speciosa. Sorry for the long rant but if even one person reads this and i have avoided saying this up front . If you have read this far then maybe you need a change or just someone who has been theres advice . You can quit heroin oxycodone any opioids and to some degree alcoholism with this amazing plant and the most amazing thing about this is it will save you from having withdrawal within 10 minutes of taking a spoonful of this powder all that agony and sickness is gone . This alone makes this plant amazing. It works by attaching to the opioid receptors in the human body yet its not an opioid. I hope at least one person has been helped by me writing this long comment my writing and english skills could be much improved from my casual run on forever sentences 😅

Man, you really inspired me with this interview. I love the desert and isolated places. I'm from Brazil but I've been to the Atacama and Patagonia deserts and they're incredible places. There's poetry in the desert. A connection with the cosmos, with thousands of years ago. With the beginning of everything. That's what I like. The city makes people sick, the system is over. The future is places like these. Soon I'll travel with my wheel and a backpack where I'll have everything I need to be happy. Thank you.

I could never give up the green trees and lush lawns and the 4 seasons of Wisconsin, but always enjoyed travel and visiting places in this great country. I've never been to an amusement park, Disney land or Disneyworld, etc. but have been to all of the lower 48 and 9 Canadian Provinces. I love the National Parks, but often State and County parks have similar scenery without the huge crowds. I also love to visit in the off season to avoid the large crowds. Visit with the locals, eat local cuisine and stay in Mom & Pop motels.

The tours and the riders were fun to see. Most striking to me, though, were the two women in the coffee shop. I felt like they were channeling the spirit of settler women who'd come to that place and started families there like 150 years ago - they'd be saying the same things for the same reasons. x
