    I'm currently in the market for coilovers for my VB and have done a lot of research and found many people having this problem. The solution was to tighten the end links more than you thought you had to and to tighten them with load on the suspension. Thanks for the video!

    I recently bought some FA 500 CO, which has been a nightmare. I accidentally bought helper springs, which was a huge mistake. I have had horrible noises for two weeks now and am still trying to figure things out. The need for more details regarding end links is definitely odd. I have been told numerous things that conflict, just like you. However, the Subie Service manual specifies 44 FT LBS for the OEM links. Let me know if you want a screenshot of a page or the whole chapter. It also stipulates that the tires are off and the car is on a lift. This would lead me to believe the suspension is unloaded when you torque the links.

    • @HeavyMetalWRX
      @HeavyMetalWRX  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh wow 44lb, that kind of checks out. So many others have been saying 33lb but that wasn't enough. For me it was an issue holding on to the bolt on my aftermarket Endlinks. Once I got a hold of a small pliers I was able to properly tire and that solved all my problems.

    I like to disagree with some topics but i just installed the silvers, cusco sway bars and a STI trans. Everything seems to be on point other than the clunk. The sound definitely sounded like endlinks so I googled it and Boom, your video. I will say I think when I wake up in the morning I'm going to check the bolts are torqued correctly. I also used the same wrench and something didn't feel right.
    Thank you for making this video, very clear understanding. Everyone seems to skip endlinks.

    It's the gap in between the threaded end of the end link that goes in between the coilovers that makes that clunk. I also had the same problem with my silvers. Easy fix is to get a shouldered washer for each side on top and on the bottom of the end link. This may work for you guys as well. I found zero info on line as I just tried it and it worked

    Thanks for this Vid man, really helps! last week i got BC coils and Kansei wheels. Did the coilovers myself and torqued all bolts to spec like you did (all over spec) and went to a local tire shop after install to get tires swapped and on a short drive to the shop heard HARD clunking on front passenger side, told them about the issue and they said to come back next week when a more experienced tech can help find the issue. My next day off i will try this and see if it helps. Hopefully this will fix my problem, it seems like most issues are from the end links. If this doesn't fix the issue then il just go back to the OEM and look for replacements for springs, hopefully and update in a week when I'm happy heheh

      @HeavyMetalWRX I was listening to some jams you had in a prior video and it said you wrote the music as a one man band and if sounded pretty killer so I thought I'd inquirer. I'm a metal head and a wrx owner so it's killer to see someone else into both things.

      @@aaronr9551 dude that is awesome. I wasn't sure if the two went hand in hand for the general community but for me it was a no-brainer. Also, it saved me a lot of time and money to just use my own music than to go find other people's music or use just the generic tracks that TH-cam has. Do you play any instruments?

      @HeavyMetalWRX nah I'm just a metal fan. I don't play any instruments. Black, death, thrash in their extreme forms are what my ears spend most of their time listening to. The track you had on the bulge video sounded a little black metal ish. Not sure if that was the goal but it sounded killer either way.

    Hey! Has anyone successfully used the stock end links?

  • @billsanter
    @billsanter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This was painful to watch, brother. First of all get some better endlinks than what comes with the coilovers. A good set of endlinks have a place to insert a hex wrench on the end of the bolt. This is how you keep it from spinning. Second, adjust the endlinks with weight on the wheels. Seems like every video I watch on this they adjust the links with the wheels in the air which is all wrong. The best way to accomplish this is with a set of ramps. Also, why is your height adjustment collar loose? You need to tighten it with a screwdriver and a hammer. Most coilovers also have a hex bolt to tighten as well.

    • @HeavyMetalWRX
      @HeavyMetalWRX  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@billsanter so some of what you said is accurate. I have found the results to be similar whether the car is in the air or not. As for the hex that isn't the case for ALL Endlinks. Third, these were the Endlinks that came with the coils. I had also adjusted them using weight and without. The issue was me not being able to torque them properly because I couldn't hold the bolt. Also the video here is me actually reaolving the problem. I appreciate your solutions but they came many months after the original issue.

    • @billsanter
      @billsanter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HeavyMetalWRX This won't affect the clunking issue but you aren't going to get the best handling if your sway bar is preloaded with wheels on the ground. If you made the endlinks the same length as OEM there is a good chance the sway bar is preloaded. This is huge pet peeve of mine because I see so many videos where they get this wrong (like almost all of them). I guess I need to make my own video because this issue drives me nuts.

    • @HeavyMetalWRX
      @HeavyMetalWRX  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@billsanter I mean if you actually watched my videos I did exactly what you said. I put the end links on with the car on my rhino ramps and tightened them. This is my third video on the coilovers issue and I went back and forth and tried everything people were telling me. Those on the channel that have followed me on this know exactly the dos and donts now. These weren't my ideas but sourced from experts, as I am definitely not an expert.

As of right now the only noises I have are random squeaks which idk if they will ever go away. There is ZERO clunking, ZERO weird snaps or crackles or whacks or thuds of metal. I’m better suited to paying professionals to install mechanical parts, but then I’m not a youtuber making a living from sharing my car builds with the world. I respect those who do this, but for me there’s a safety aspect when it comes to the engine, the brakes & the suspension. There’s a fine line between being safe & disaster.

      You are definitely right on that one. My wife would be scared every time she got in the car. Really what you need is knowledge and experience. TH-cam helps with the knowledge part ...experience you just gotta keep doing everyday. That's the scary part but I feel like I'm considerably more comfortable today versus a year ago when I didn't even want to look under the hood.
