Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at the Steam Deck and while I didn't get one, I took advantage of the openness of Linux to have a similar experience and I think I did a pretty good job. Thanks for watching!

My favorite thing about the steam deck is that valve is pushing game developers to support Linux. Now we can do cool stuff like this without a steam deck.
Never used Linux nor plan on getting a steam deck but I still agree completely.
So the already small amount of time devs spend on PC optimization will be fractured just to be sure the games start on Soyjak's steamdecks using an OS less than 1% of the population uses. Honestly screw this.

As a hot steamy plopping and laying across my chest? Bc that's the only way I take my deliveries. Sometimes I'll even slide some steamy brown cream into a condom and freeze it and reinsert it and hold it till it melts and then pop it in side myself only to repeat the process.

@@MrDiana1706 Yeah Nintendo has a strong core library of kid-friendly and family-friendly games but they don't do much with their hardware tech wise except innovate to make it more portable it seems. I used to really be into their handhelds though (and SNES ages ago).
@@TheSoulCrisis you make it sound as if not doing stuff with their hardware stuff is already not for the "hardcore gamer". Although I gotta admit even if their games are competent in that aspect for the hardware they're on, specially in consistency, it's really showing how they need new one when Kirby is 30fps despite all its achievements.
In the Wii U and back, the consistency was much higher while also noticeable experience acquired by devs as the time went on, specially on the Wii, GC and SNES

Playing the classic NFS games from the BlackBox era on the Steam Deck is pretty cool, can get 5.5 hours on it.
i had a surface pro dock in my 1982 supra it ran my car i could change tunes i plugged my phone in and the display popped up with full touch on the surface pro 1 lol. just had a deck behind it because all of my stereo stuff ran off of amps... but the surface was my "stereo deck" it played skyrim old retro games over watch a homebrew halo 3 game that was awesome. it was cool as fuck. car had lumbar support power windows sunroof cruze control worked started right up everytime. 1.5jz engine... 350whp cuz the w58 it was dope. i made it look nice too lol.
Nothing beats that lumbar support in your car.

"Bloated" according to hardcore Linux fans is having any features at all. They like to install absolutely everything themselves the hard way.
It's not hard to type sudo pacman packagename or whatever. Shit like this saves u from headaches later on. Also running Windows on a handheld would probably give you half the battery life, just because windows is resource heavy. Even if optimised in some ways, as long as they don't cut down on the "bloat" you'll always have worse battery life.

@@gjeraldh2989 from tests people have done with windows on the steamdeck, and linux on the ayaneo and others, its really not that bad. About 10% less battery life on windows.

I used to run Ubuntu on PS3 via OtherOS before Sony ended it with a firmware update, and wrote the sticky howto on gamefaqs back in the day. It was amazing having a brand new console playing all the official games, and swapping over to play some SNES or torrent some movies on my PS3 through Ubuntu. I'd used Yellowdog first but found the controller drivers better with Ubuntu, and that was the distro I was more comfortable with. It's really great seeing what they are doing with Steamdeck and I hope to see this expand further.
15:06 I had Squad running on Kubuntu and that uses Epic's Easy Anti-Cheat. You have a few more steps (downloading EAC linux SDK and placing it in correct folder), but I know that EAC at least has a work-around.
i think you can disable EAC for offline gameplay using a command line parameter, i ha e done it in windows a couple of times, but the only solution to DRM like denuvo is just to play the cracked version
After using my Steam Deck for a month now I've actually moved to Linux on my main PC as well. I still dual boot but it's a big step for me.

I recommend Ubuntu. It's been relatively easy to use since it's really similar to Windows 10/11 in design. It takes some getting used to but it's been a breeze to use so far.
People who want to play multiplayer can use GE, as well as Lutris. Still not perfect, but with Lutris's vast library, and GE's constant updates, you should be able to run most games.
Ventoy lets you use 1 USB that can have multiple iso's to boot from. I have Manjaro, Arch, Windows 10 install iso's on the same stick. You just drag and drop the iso's after your usb is formatted with ventoy.
Yes Ventoy is absolutely a game changer, especially if you're distro hopping and experimenting with all the different distros out there. I don't have to deal with the annoyance of reflashing my USB every single time I want to try a new distro, and then flash it again if I want to revert back to my old one.
It takes a weeeeeee bit of effort to learn how to use Ventoy, but if you're planning to distro hop it's going to save you a lot of headaches in the long run.
BTW if you plan to delete ISOs from the flash drive with Ventoy installed, please remember to delete the .iso file on your drive AND clear the deleted file from your recycle bin too since the space won't be freed until you do so

The one upside about getting the steamdeck late is if there is an early problem with the hardware, you'll probably get the newer version.

I'm very happy with my switch, and the steamdeck price is crazy.
But with a baby in the house now, I enjoy couch mobile gaming more than in years past.
This seems like a great way to avoid the scalping, or even in a few years once the options and competition are better with lower costs to try out.

I just got my steam deck last Saturday, my reservation landed in q2. First game i loaded up on it was the new Lego star wars game. Gamepass xcloud on it is pretty great, every game plays in 60 fps and the deck will only pull like 7-8watts.
Streaming uses about 7-8W, yep. I wish it used a little less power, but maybe in a few years, we’ll get a dedicated decoder on hardware to use less power. 5W would be great to get closer to 8 hours of streaming.
2:53 I don't like to play games or even music anymore, because not every device is waterproof. Because I had to actually get a new phone. And I got myself locked out of my account, but I am recovering, by the minute, by the hour, by the day.

I am dual booting win11 and garuda (zen) and win11 uses about 7G RAM with just edge while garuda, maybe the flashiest implementation of KDE Plasma out there, uses only 4.1 now, 1.3 of which is chrome. It's insane.

Just in case someone needs to know how to save a file in Nano; Muta pressed Ctrl+X and then gave it a files name. The program saved the file and then exited
You could press Ctrl+S to save the file, but it'll keep the file open (just press Ctrl+X after to exit)
Does Ctrl+S work? I’ve always used Ctrl+O for “Write Out”.
@@johnbuscher It might vary between different distros. I should've clarified (apologies) that ctrl+s worked for me under Kubuntu in that it saves the files without closing the program. Ctrl+O is certainly another option that appears to do the same thing.

Hey Muta, been watching your channel for sometime now and I do enjoy your content. You helped me decide which OS to take my pc to as Windows 7 Ultimate is a bit dated these days. That said, I did go to Linux, Mabox Linux to be specific. Based on Manjaro with Openbox Desktop enviroment. Really nice streamlined and light weight OS. I was wondering if you've given Mabox a shot at all and if so, what your opinions are with it? So far, for the last few months anyways, it has been awesome and gave this older quad core machine a new lease on life without being choked out by windows 10.
I'm going to wait until they release the Mutadeck upgrade, they always do that a year or two after the first one.

For those of you watching in the future, you prob want to use "Holo ISO" instead - it includes Valve's modified kernel and has the Steam Deck partition layout and update mechanism, as well as gamescope. It's not exactly the "official" SteamOS 3, but it's designed to closely match what the recovery image installs to official hardware.

Yeah exactly, I'd love to get one but they don't ship here unfortunately. My main problem with the alternatives though is the inferior hardware and really expensive entry price.

To be fair, with how long the wait is excluding those countries, how much worse do you think it would be if everyone was allowed to order? And then they have to offer hardware replacement support… Hopefully once everything is sorted though, other countries will be able to order it.
Microsoft had plenty of chances of releasing their own version of the "Steam Deck" when the PSP, Vita, and even the Switch, came out. I don't think they have an interest in doing that, and instead, will push for the cloud service.

I too have an ayaneo pro and man i love it. Still havr a steam deck on preorder to see if maybe ill like it more as the ayaneo isnt perfect.
In a world that's making it increasingly more efficient to know how to do specific things online, I'm glad someone like Muta exists. He genuinely seems like a good guy that's trying to help people learn cool stuff. I appreciate that.

so many AAA Games working perfecctly now on Linux... it's come a LONG way, I was using Zorin since it's 1st release to play Windows Games on a Lighter OS... and in just a few years... they made MASSIVE improvements to running on Linux, even some of my favorites that were designed for Windows 95-98-me-xp-7 all working on Linux now.
The core of Valve's Proton is Wine+dxvk. These were around and allowing some very good Linux gaming (DX11) before Proton. Proton just packages it very well on Steam.
Can confirm the current Linux Kernel used in **beta**-version Steam Deck is 5.13.0

I'm still using my Alienware alpha r1 as a daily driver. Runs great with an SSD and 8bgs ram. gonna upgrade to 16 while ddr3 is still cheap
Ooh, thanks for the reminder! I might try to get some more RAM for my OG Steam Machine. Only has the i3, but that’s actually better for single-threaded performance than the i7 thanks to the heat. Otherwise, I’d love to upgrade it to get at least 4c/8t.
KDE is probably the best desktop enviornment for someone who uses windows to get started using Linux

Just an FYI gamescope isn't the same as the deck UI. Gamescope is a compositor that contains the game giving your useful features like locking fps or using fsr. It can be used without the deck ui and even without steam.
That deckifier script is pretty awesome though! Note the steamdeck ui won't work on any systems using Nvidia graphics, although I don't think any handhelds right now are.
well, Vak was already checking if he could get SteamdeckUI to run under X11 and thus effectively under Nvidia cards, but so far we had no luck

I have an Ekster wallet that my mom bought me and she got me the tracking card with it and I swear to god 6 months to the day the card killed itself and will not charge in the sun. The wallet bent because I don’t have that many cards and so now the trigger gets stuck and on top of that the leather is loose, cracking, and worn in comparison to when I got it last year so buyer beware, they’re only worth it if you utilize Muta’s discount cuz full price for these things is a waste

The Aya Neo is excellent!! Just put windows 11 on mine . Windows 10 was just fine but feels zippier on 11. Since next round of Decks won’t ship til after Q3 this is getting the job done in a big way for me.

24:03 I would not really blame bloat on that. It's been a known thing that AMD graphic cards generally perform better under Linux than Windows. In OpenGL, the difference is significant, with Vulkan not so much but it's still there.
