    One of the tricks I found is when installing Windows 98 is to copy the "Win" folder over to the hard drive right after you partition and format the drive. From there you can run the Setup file from the folder on the hard drive and it will not only install faster but it also stops a lot of the annoying pop-up asking for you to put the Windows 98 CD in the drive whenever it tries to load a new driver file. It will search the "Win" folder on the hard drive intead of asking for the CD as much.
    This is an old trick I learned back when I was younger and just getting into IT. Came in very handy let me tell ya!!

    • @bigbrothertw
      @bigbrothertw ปีที่แล้ว +2

      isnt that what it does already? i havent setup a winx machine in ages but if i remember correctly it copies the win folder onto the drive before installing, at least it does when setup up from a CD

    • @Maverick7r
      @Maverick7r ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@bigbrothertw it does copy that folder over but since the Setup file was run from the CD and not the hard drive it basically tells Windows to look for the CD when installing a driver or driver support files. If you copy that folder to the hard drive and run it then Windows is instructed to search the local folder first. 🙂

    Hi Muta! I've built a few months ago, a completely portable version of Windows 95 (complete with CD and internet support, GPU support) that was specifically meant to play games! It can be ran from a USB drive and is wrote exclusively into a single 300mb EXE that will expand on it's own as you add files, or install games. Hopefully youtube doesn't block this. I will post the link in the comment below this!

And actually, the newest version of DirectX you can use on Windows 98 (both First & second Edition, but don't bother with First Edition though, SE is the way to go) is 9.0c, the December 8th 2006 version to be exact. 8:50 Gad dayum! Sound Blaster really brings me back. I’ve been trying to remember the name of a game that came as a demo (can’t remember if it was on 98 or XP, but I remember playing it on an old beige Compaq PC). I had a YT video saved on a playlist of a guy that had a guide to run an XP VM so he could run the game and that video got removed so I can’t even see the title or the username (prolly got banned or deleted). Tried on a forum dedicated for forgotten games as well to no avail. My brother remembered the name but he also died many years ago now. Worst part is, my mind goes to this name that’s totally wrong, cuz I remember asking my brother “Hey what was the game we played that was so and so called? Was it star-something or whatever, pretty sure it started with an S” and he was like “no dude, it’s not even close, that game is called so and so.” In a “what’s wrong with this guy, it’s so obvious” manner. And I was like are you sure? That sounds nothing like it! And he was like YES DUDE, I’M SURE. Anyway, seems the game is so obscure that almost nobody knows about it cuz even when I searched for it on the interwebz and on TH-cam, everything was about this OTHER game called EXACTLY the same thing that had nothing to do with it, and literally the only video I found was that one that got removed by YT. If anybody cares and can help me, I’m sure I’ll get a ton of answers of a lotta games that sound like what I’m describing yet are nothing like it, but maybe it’ll be my lucky night. The game was the type where you see everything from the top down, and you were controlling this spacecraft that was in a densely jungled area, you could basically only see the tops of trees at the start, like just the foliage, and there you were on the silver spacecraft (which I think was circular, (kinda like the millenium falcon but has nothing to do with Star Wars) and you always had to go left and up at the start to start getting enemies to spawn and whatnot. At first it would just be like a few, sparsely separated space ships that would come attack you, as you went around the jungle finding these military structures that were built throughout spread around (which you had to shoot at and destroy, I think some had turrets. They weren’t green like camo or anything, just looked like pretty flat concrete roofs of buildings hidden between the foliage basically). You’d spin around your space craft to face up, down, left, right and everything in between with the arrow keys I believe, and you moved it around with the awsd I think. Don’t remember when you fired but anyway that’s about as much as I remember. You’d see cool explosion effects whenever you destroyed a ship or some turret. The game/demo was pretty bare bones from what you can hear, but it was one of the most memorable and fun games in my memory. I wanted to play it really badly but that virtual machine to run XP to be able to play the game was more complex back then and it seemed to daunting a task. Wish I’d written the name down on the walls, on a few notebooks, pieces of paper and random places around my parent’s house but how could I ever have expected all this? I hope someone reads this and is reminded of the game, not only so I can play it but that someone else can be like nooo waaay!! I’d forgotten about that one! And go play it and we can share the thought of how amazing it was. Peace! ✌🏽

    God bless emulation. I personally love to emulate [CENSORED] games on PC (I generally run with a standalone version of Dolphin). The [CENSORED] versions of Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 (fucking banger games) run flawlessly at maxed out settings. [CENSORED] very obviously have decided to punish fans for preserving and enhancing the games we love due to greed. It's just sad. Enough of my crap. Thank you again Muta, keep it going dude 💚

    Personally, I find it ironic. I was hunkering for Need for Speed: Underground 2 and installed my rom through Lutris. Had to switch to Proton due to a mod not working with Lutris. (So opening the speed.exe in Proton, not the Lutris entry.)
    But I'm able to play a almost 20 year old game, native as possible. Performance is great and I have a lot of fun again.
    Steamdeck replaced my itch for newer games. Love it.
