You definitely don't need 52 gigs. Not sure what muta is doing but I know people who have built on an 8 gig laptop. Sure it does take overnight to compile even for dirty builds, but it can be done

20:38 from a former android rom maintainer (not developer) you can actually use the -j$(nproc --all) to get it to build with all your cpu threads and optionally, you can setup ccache (which is caching of commonly built c files in android) to dramatically speed up builds after your first build. The first build will store all of the c files in a directory (back in 2016, I had a 256gb ssd and a 1tb hdd and i stored the source on the hdd and the ccache on my /home/user/.ccache directory) and after the first build, every build would go from like 1.5 hours down to 35 minutes. Mind you this was when android was 50gb of storage for source, but the longest part was downloading the initial branch of android that would take the longest, but after some optimizations like I listed above, it went so much faster.

You can unlock the bootloader of Samsung phones, if you go into download mode and hold the volume up key to unlock the bootloader. You do however, have to enable oem unlocking in your Developer options. There are a few ROMS for the S20 which I have used. It's just more of a pain in the ass to do it. And because I live in the UK, I got the Exynos model, meaning that I can't just install any ROM I want.
Please cover LineageOS security. They turned off encryption by default, you can't lock bootloader, you get root access via adb, not safe from evil maid attacks. Please cover this topic.
