I went to Hatherleigh back in the 1970's Mr Boxer was my class teacher a real stickler for real ink not biro. Seeing my home town as it once was to how it is now is shocking. The now a city Newport has had many changes over many years. It's sad to see some of the building either gone for good or in need of demolition. Big industry an full employment has been replaced by small and mass unemployment and despair.

I went there between 1981 and 1982. It was such a beautiful school. Such a shame it’s gone now. My teacher was Mrs Kemp. Yes, town is a shocking place now. They should have left John Frost Square alone.

I'm sure I remember you Alun, from Hatherleigh. If you reply to this I'll let you know who I am. I live not far from there and occasionally walk along the back of the school (long gone now) with the dog. Yes, Newport is not the same lovely place it once was when we were in school.

Yes Boxer was a hard nose for ink, my hand used to be covered in it after English classes. I used to place chalk in his flask out of spite. I no longer reside in Newport but I do know how bad it is today. The town centre is neigh on dead. Just glad I don't reside there and never want to again. But still miss the old school it was hard but fun. The thing that let the school down was the punishments were harsh compared to today, but we did learn to behave if not only whilst in school.
