I'd probably get a Crestliner with a Yamaha. I can build a nice trailer so just a few hundred for material. I like the way Gregors look but I still lean towards the Crestliner.

I've had a G3 1448 for well over a decade and couldn't be more satisfied. I started out with a 10 Hp Mercury and it would plane out just a bit over 20 mph. Now I've got a 25 Hp Yamaha 2-stroke and it goes 30 or better flat out (with more gear). Plenty fast for a 14' boat. The thing I like about it is that it's wide as my dad's old 19' jon-boat but you only have the one seat to climb over to get up to the bow (which doubles as a live well or storage). It's nice and stable for a small boat and is handy on smaller lakes and rivers if you're solo fishing. You can still bring along one full size person and gear and still be < the weight limit for the hull. You can definitely get on the water for less than $10K and that would include life jackets, oars, fire extinguisher, throwing device, signaling device (whistle), a fishing pole, a dozen worms, some potato chips and a six pack. If you have the budget, I think one would be better keeping the boat small and load up with, running lights, a trolling motor, some decent sonar, and maybe a Bimini-top to keep the sun off.

(more airflow, and put on a other prop).. then u have the same engine they sell ass a 20hp... saved u 1500 bucks right there.. With that saving u can get almost any 16 john boat/trailer combo and still be under 10k..

In 2002 I bought a new Fisher aluminum 16.5 foot Avenger SC deep V with side console, live well, fishing deck front and rear, and a Mercury 50 HP 4-stroke for $8800. I took excellent care of it and always stored it under a carport. It looks great and still serves me well. I checked recently, and a comparable boat today is north of $16,000.

Got a good package in BC Canada 2 years ago. Not ideal for some, but perfect for me. 9'6" Journey flat bottom welded aluminum. 9.8HP 4 stroke, karavan trailer. With some good options in the boat, pkg was $6800CAD. Awesome boat for stability, solid build, once I am on the water, hard to come back to shore. What I thought I needed was about $20k, this boat is great and more money for other hobbies...

I live in Southern Michigan. Wanted a bass boat but on a tight budget . Found a 16 foot long 48 wide old monarch aluminum flat bottom with trailer for $400. A 1988 Johnson 28 horse with controls for $600. Old street signs which are marine plywood for floor and deck (free) 2 rolls of outdoor carpet from home Depot $25 each. Seats of marketplace were around $100.
With everything staples, glue wiring, paint, battery, lights. I ended up spending around $1400 maybe $1450.
Boat is super stable, does 27 mph with 2 adults 2 kids on board . Im a every couple weekend fisherman. I personally regardless of budget cant see spending another 9 grand for a brand new boat when this works absolutely fine. Thats just me though.

I just bought a brand new Lowe 1648 MT with a 15hp Mercury 4 stroke (with Battery) and trailer for around $7000 after tax and tags. I put a 55lb thrust Minn Kota Endura Max Tiller handle trolling motor for a little over $500 and I found a Lowrance Elite TI 7 on black friday for a little over $500. I also bought another battery for $120 So, all total I have a little over $8500 in a brand new boat with warranty on everything needed. I am 6'2 290 and with another 190 lb friend it pushes us about 23 mph. I'm not breaking any speed records, but I can go all day on $10 bucks of fuel at an acceptable pace. What I have is a very versatile fishing craft that I can literally put in anywhere (Fresh or Brackish) and catch fish. (I may have to pull the 90lb motor off and store it in the garage on some waters, but it does not brake my older back). I have detailed maps of all my local waters in a very good fish finder. If you go my route, I highly recommend spending a little extra on a very good fish finder with the maps.

The cheapest way to have a good jon boat is to buy the hull used. Found a bare aluminum 14 ft Jon boat with trailer in excellent condition on marketplace for $800. Went to a local boat dealer and walked out with a brand new 15hp efi Mercury for $2900 out the door. That's a sub $4000 boat build. With some rigging I came out just under 5k for a fully loaded small bass boat. Build your boats guys! You can choose to go cheap for the hull, but don't be cheap on the engine. That's what's gonna get you around so you don't want it to have problems!🎉

My first boat was a 1959 Alumaline 14' boat. The wood benches and wood transom were rotted and there were a few other problems with the trailer , but I got the boat and trailer for all of $50.
A transom is just a sheet of plywood coated in epoxy and he benches were rebuilt with aluminum angle and plywood. A new drain and plug and a little welding solved the big issues. The trailer needed new tired and wheels as well as getting the bearings repacked. I had the trailer sandblasted and painted it with bedliner. A few new bushings in the springs, new wood and carpet bunks and some new lights got me a boat and trailer that were usable. I then got a 1976 Johnson 6hp motor and fuel tank for $400 and I was ready for the lake. Including purchase price, I went from a non-floating, non-trailerable hulk to on the water for about $1,000. Since then I got a small fish finder and a transom mount trolling motor as well as installing some rod holders.
The total cost is now about $1,500 and it's the perfect small lake boat.
My latest boat is a 1985 16' Sea Nymph with a 1983 50hp Mercury. It cost me considerably more, but I went from a rotted hulk needing new floors and transom as well as needing all new foam and electrical with a non-running engine to a fully functional boat for less than $5,000.
The key to both of these boats being affordable is the ability to rebuild them myself. If I had paid someone to do the work I would have spent at least double the cost.

One important feature, I believe all of those are welded boats, there are cheaper boats available, but they are riveted construction, not fully welded. A welded boat has a much longer lifespan over a riveted boat, it's a better deal over the long haul.

@@WayneTheBoatGuy I had a trailer from a previous boat. Tracker will only let you buy the the 1448 without a trailer It is mandatory on the others.
I have about $8200 into my rig that's boat, Outboard motor, electronic and bow mounted 55lbs trust trolling motor. If I added a stainless prop she would do 30+ with two dudes. That's fast in a 1448!

Really look into tohatsu. Tohatsu has made motors for the Japanese fishing industry for over 50 years. And every merc and Suzuki motor 20 hp down, is made by tohatsu.
I retired last year, and bought myself a new motor. I was running a 1965 evinrude 9.5 two stroke. It was still running good, but my brother needed a motor, so I gave it to him. I bought a tohatsu 9.8 four stroke. I bought the 9.8 instead of the 9.9 because it’s 30 lbs lighter. The 9.9 is injected, and the 9.8 is carbureted. The 9.8 cost me 2k delivered to my door, with new tank and hose, spare parts kit from online outboards.
The fuel economy has amazed me. After the annoying break in period, the mileage kept getting better and better. I have a 14’ aluminum v-Hull, and with me and all my crap in it, it pushes me at 17 mph. With a friend in front, it goes 14.
Sorry for rambling, but when I find a great deal, I like to tell folks lol

It must be Maryland. Many states and localities jump all over you if you have 10 HP and up. Why not buy a Manhattan taxi medallion, if you like red tape? 20 HP is if you want to tow laden barges. All that weight is no fun on the transum of a 16 footer.

you surely are an experienced boater, so I'm curious as to why you think that $5,000 for the Tracker, bare bones, is the best deal? There're certainly better options to be had for less than that. A classic aluminum V hull would cost about $1000 less, for example... why insist that a person entering boating needs to go new? A new boat suffers the LARGEST depreciation of any other...there are amazing deals to be had on used boats, and the new trailer you bought would cost about $500 less if only 5 years old

I have other videos about used boats under $1,000 and other 'shopping' topics. This video is mostly for the shopper who isn't comfortable buying used and addresses exactly how "much" they could buy with a $10,000 budget for all new items. Many new boaters and shoppers don't really understand what it all costs or realize just how expensive new boats can be!

I can go get brand new sea doo spark 3 jet ski for 6k. I understand boats are going to be more expensive. I just feel like once you hit 20k price mark you can get whatever you want.
