- How big will the moringa grow in one year? How many leaves can I eat from a Moringa tree in one year? How can I help my Moringa to survive the cold of winter? When should I cut or prune my moringa tree?
These are the questions I discuss as I go through step by step my first year of the moringa tree's life.
The moringa seeds that I sowed 6 months ago is 5.5ft now and growing so healthy in a 5 gallon home depot container. My moringa journey in the State of Georgia.
Did you direct sow them in soil? What type of soil
Did you use for germination?
my moringa grow about 2 meter tall, in Indonesia, so i cut down into 3, and i got 4 moringa in my garden (sorry for my bad english)

also as a filipino i’d say try making soup out of moringga with lemon grass and if you want some ginger and onions... plain as that then salt and pepper

You can get both, the bushes and let 1 full tree because of small space. Try both you may like it. They look very healthy, please dried those leaves and eat them, don't let it waste the stem you can cut it 1 in then make tea out of it.

Yes, that's true. In the Philippines, people cut the moringa trees regularly to stop them from growing into a big tree.

My moringa tree died back during the winter in Jan / Feb. In the later part of March, it grew one branch from the bottom of the trunk. As of now, it's grown over 13 feet tall.
You left it outside all winter ? What US planting Zone are you in ?

However, I really think you should have let 1 just keep growing without any interruption to see if you can get some flowers to see if you can get some pods to see if you can get some seeds.

you can plant the cuttings and they are easy to grow. I grow up eating this almost everyday. In Philippines this is a must tree in your garden (MALUNGGAY). I didn't know how nutritious this plant was till I got here in the US. Now I am growing it in my backyard.
For us in Southern Cali, the cuttings have not lasted as well through winter without extra care to keep warm, etc. My wife is Filipino as well which is how I was introduced to the plant. I have been growing from seed and giving to my family in hopes that we all can have at least one tree in their yards. Cuttings are pretty amazing as well and I am still learning about the best ways to make them as hearty as my seed grown plants.

if you wanna expand that recipe add slices of squash and okra and taro but always add your moringga towards the end. You may also add up coconut milk 😋 moringga is also good for fish soup or chicken soup. 😋always add stt he end tthen lemongrass and ginger either or both. 😋
Best is to blend the leave make shake from it then boil stems for tea. Don't cook the leave you cook up the vitamind from it.

Take a note that most of the benefits that people use Moringa for is destroyed if you cook Moringa. So if you’re using it for certain benefits take note of when not to cook it. Eat it raw in salads or powders
Yes, raw is definitely best. For people new to moringa, I don't worry about forcing them to try uncooked though...I'd rather they start it any way they can handle it. Sometimes that might mean being cooked. Then over time, gradually starting to eat the fresh product. Occasionally, we sell the fresh leaves in a small stand in hopes that we can provide more access to the fresh product as it is not yet common enough to find in our local groceries here in the U.S.
Having never eaten this before, is there an issue starting off eating them raw? Is it a flavor or texture thing?
@@my67falcon Moringa is amazing the leaves and the stalk tastes like what you probably expect it's bitter in taste earthy and you're not likely to consume a lot of it but then the seeds are completely different it starts off like eating chalk then it almost instantly turned to like chewing really sweet chalk.
I only eat fresh Moringa I never cook it I want to get all the vitamins and minerals I can out of it I take it right from the tree and put it right in my mouth I don't bother to wash it and I don't let it age on a counter or anything like that.
Bull crap. I have been eating Moringa leaves since birth! We have a tree, we have been eating from the same tree since then. You need to cook the leaves so that the water can dissolve the vitamins and minerals. We use the water to make curr, and use the boiled leaves to make a side dish. Man cannot digest these raw leaves. If you eat it you shit them as they are!! Similar to grass. Man cannot digest green leafy veggies. But there are some exceptions.
@@naveenoce8144 You're one funny man but you're right. I used to hate moringa as a kid coz we used to eat them almost everyday and my family used to boil them to death. You're supposed to eat the moringa for fiber and the vitamins are leached into the soup so you're supposed to drink it. There was no such thing as shakes or salads then.
You can eat them raw if you want but some nutrients are best released when boiled.

I live in the UK. I managed to germinate 2 moringa seeds. They are now 6 weeks old and around 6 inches high. It is now getting colder here at night and early mornings so I take them in. I am thinking of keeping them indoors with grow lights in the winter. Can you please tell me what kind of fertilizer to use. Enjoyed yiur video. Thank you.

I live in Globe AZ (winter time will below 30F & some snow.). After that over one year I will cut short and cover dry leaves and come back next Spring. Hope it will grow again again! Thanks again

I wonder how deep the roots get, I am growing one in a pot in zone 5. I just brought it indoors.
They say The Roots Run Deep so that it can get more minerals however I've seen some get uprooted and they didn't look very long to me
You are in zone 8a or b right ? So am I, but clear across the country in SC. I am thinking of trying to grow it outside soon then. I have a lot of sun, just more frost than ideal for moringa.
Were you able to get it to bear fruits?
I planted a seed and it started to grow like a vine. I left it that way. It’s still growing that way at the top but at the bottom the growth is different. Still small I’m just going to let it do whatever it wants as long as it’s green and growing even if it’s growing real slow. Any tips.

I heard of people who dig out the roots before frost. Keep it in a cool (frostfree) place and reput it in spring. Never tried it myself, but worth a try.
Once it stops growing new leaves in Fall/Winter-you can cut it to just a few inches, and mulch heavily around root base, cover with plastic/blanket it you feel like it. As long as the root does not freeze, it comes back. IF it isn't trimmed down, and gets frost bit, Do not cut anything until spring, but again make sure roots are heavily covered. (The damaged parts will help protect the lower growth).

Hmmm, I have 4 moringa trees and they all stopped growing around 3”. They look ok just have not grown at all in the last month. It’s warm and sunny here in NorCal right now
I am putting together a video on this as well...I have some new sets of trees growing from seeds...One set is in a smaller container and the soil was not rich with nutrients. The plants are over a year old and barely 3 ft tall (surviving but not thriving). In comparison, another set I planted is in rich loose soil (still potted), and in only 4-5 months are already 4 ft tall and have thick trunks. Prepping the soil is a big deal in getting these moringas started and growing well.
Hi, what is the name of the blackish plants that look like flowers?
I actually wasn't sure what that plant was called. I looked it up. It is a type of succulent...fairly common in Southern California. Black Rose, Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop'. Don't know much about it except that I collected a cutting from a family member and have continued to spread it throughout my garden as it has grown.
Leafs are better if you use within 2-3 hours it also has like tons of medicinal values its called miracle tree i think

the runt is in soil contaminated with builders lime from your stucco. I bet if you dig down all the loose stucco from spraying is still there.
Probably a good observation. I also realized later that I didn't prepare the soil on that location as well as I did in the center. It wasn't as loose, nor mixed with gardening soil.
hi! i am in canada snd i am trying to grow it from seed. It is growing fast indoor with heated mats and grow ligjhts but i dnt think I can leave it outside for winter cuz we get -30 to -50 🙁

Likely you will have to protect in the winter, but summertime they will love. They do not last below freezing.

What's the required condition for it.
I believe just needs to be above 30 degrees throughout the year, or kept warm during freezing time. Otherwise, it grows in most warm/hot climates.
You can grow anything anywhere, with the right tools.

Why are they so short for being a full year?

You can, if they get some good nutrient rich soil, and you feed them every three months or so, they will grow very well.
@Zhilan Donovan yes you can. As moringa studies said keep it in a loose soil and fertilize as needed. Also keep it trimmed. I also live in Chandler, Az. 😀
