    Hi, There is an old saying in Tamil language that "Murungaya vechavan verum kaiyya povan" ( The one plants moringa tree will go empty handed) and it actually means that, The one who plants the moringa tree in their house and then consumes the leaves cooked, Drumstick cooked, will never needs a walking stick. He / she can walk freely with no support in his/ her later ages. And it is. The power of moringa Tree.

    I have 4 Moringa trees growing together in a indoor pot,has now reached the roof of our house,I live in Christchurch,New Zealand were in winter it drops to -7 C .Last year they defoliated but came back in the spring time,I will have to cut it back to encourage branching.I also grow water spinach,Jicama,yard long beans,winged beans,bitter melon,Malabar spinach,lemon grass,asian gourds and chili peppers.I find the secret to growing tropical veges in cold climates is lots of liquid plant food,some of them I keep in pots to over winter indoors,the rest I treat as annuals and replant new seeds every spring.

    We love fresh Moringa Tree Leaves here in the Philippines and have been eating it every day lately in our Mungo Bean Soup with lots of garlic cloves, diced tomatoes, squash, onions, other herbs and seasonings. Very plentiful here and inexpensive. Everyone uses it for health and medicinal purposes. The trees are everywhere, no problem growing in this climate. The trees love the tropics in the Archepeligo, nature is alive and very strong! If you throw a stick in the dirt it will grow into a tree. LOL 😎🏖🌴

    I got a Moringa tree from Lowe's for $5 because it was in very bad condition. Got it around May and it recovered very nicely. Almost die on me after I transplanted to the grounds. I cut the top off with all the leaves and flowers. It survived and growing taller than my 6 ft wall. The cold doesn't affect it at all and I also live in Las Vegas (eastside). I planted some from seeds and they are a little yellow but still alive.

      I also noticed some people all around where I live (Paradise region by the airport) growing moringa trees and lemongrass outdoors year round. But they defoliate every time it gets near freezing. Also worth mentioning that the strong Filipino community around here grows most of these outdoor moringa trees out here.

    If you have a clothes dryer or any small heater and a fan, you can use any closed gutter pipe ( downpour) or pvc (@5-6 inches wide) and just send the warmth directly to your Moringa tree on freezing nights. Get creative, build a temp wall around the stalk and blow the heat into there.

    I'm going to give Moringa a try next year. Planning on getting the Dwarf Moringa so that I can bring it inside. There is no way I'd be able to keep it alive this long. We've had snow since October. I definitely want to try it out and see the best way to grow it up here in the north. From my understanding with Moringa it doesn't like temps below 70 really. It's interesting to see though that your plants have handled your low temps though.

    I just learned about moringa and bought a bag of seeds to eat. Getting used to the flavor but for fun I decided to try to grow some 3 weeks ago. I have 9 little guys out of 10 seeds! I'm impressed and they are so cute, from 1 - 3 inches tall and have the cutest little leaves! This is a major feat for me since most plants would run away screaming if they could when I approach. I water them and they die, but not these! For now I'm keeping them by the windows that get sun and will see how this goes.

      They really like to stay dry in the winter that’s probably why.

    Do moringa trees grow ok close to creosote trees aka bushes

    • @Toomuchbullshitt
      @Toomuchbullshitt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Given that creosote roots has negative allelopathic properties towards other different plants growing near it, I’d say no.

    We will be growing these trees soon but I’m in north FL so will need to adjust the weather conditions for them

    • @georgekhoury583
      @georgekhoury583 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, saw you read about concerns growing this in north Florida. Sadly we haven't seen any replies to your question. My wife and I are wondering if you found any info yet from somewhere else because we have ordered three 3inch tall plants and are hoping that we can have them grow here in Pensacola Florida.... even though today is suppose to drop down in the 30's. What do you think our chances are...? Thank you for any help that you may have and good luck with yours and God bless.

    • @dianewadeco
      @dianewadeco 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean about north FL, I'm from Jacksonville. It can get to single digits and the humidity sends the cold right to the bone in winter, even in the 30s. I now live in Mass and I'm growing them inside for the winter in pots to be moved outside when it warms up since the ground freezes here for months. I already have a couple of 3 yo sago palms I move back and forth, so the more the merrier!

      You would have to baby it. I kept mine in a green house. Just wish my green house was taller. I live in Oregon.

      @Toomuchbullshitt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like 60s daytime temperatures? It actually depends on how cold your winters get. As long as it does not ever get colder than 25 F.

    • @dianewadeco
      @dianewadeco 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not outside in winter but maybe start some inside and have them for winter then transplant them when it warms up. You can just restart new inside ones every fall.

    • @Toomuchbullshitt

      Maybe in St. George, Utah (zone 8b-9a) with a good microclimate.

      This is THE WORST time of year to start moringa seeds, you'll have much better results if you wait. Above all else, moringas LOVE heat. Plant seeds in late spring or late summer (which is when the pods ripen & drop naturally). Under the right conditions moringas will grow super fast, there's nothing lost by waiting for warmer weather, and your plants will be stronger.

    Hi John. I have a moringa tree that has been growing in a pot for two years. But, it has never flowered. I bring it in side during the winter and give it enought light, but I think I have missed the mulching part. I will try that this year. Thank you for sharring this video.
    God bless you 👍

    It's getting down below 50 in central west cost Florida . My Moringa is in a pot and I was considering putting it the ground. Is that ok? Also how much watering should i be doing with it?

    • @granfarn
      @granfarn 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to be really careful not to damage the taproot, best to transplant them when they're young. That taproot goes deep so the trees are extremely drought-tolerant & will do great even without supplemental watering.

      Above all else, moringas love heat. Best time to plant seeds or transplant is late spring or late summer.

    I planted my first moringa seed yesterday. I put it in a five gallon bucket with loose potting mix and some alow release balanced fertilizer. I just wanna get it good and developed before putting it in the ground. I'm gonna bring it in during winter and put it under grow lights. I'm gonna baby it like a child. Come spring I'm gonna plant about 50 trees around my property. I have a bunch of compost cooking just for these bad boys. I'm gonna get the wholes for them ready over the winter so they have a nice home. Gonna put a bunch of wood chips in the holes with manure to get as much fungus because I've read trees grow better in fungally dominant soil. Any suggestions on improvements for growing my moringa?
