  • How to germinate moringa seeds. If you're looking to learn more about the Moringa tree and how to grow it from seed, then you're in the right place! In this video, I'll teach you how to hack the Moringa germination process and get faster germination rates, which in turn will help you grow moringa faster and better!
    Moringa is a powerhouse plant that is known for its many health benefits, including being a superfood and powerful plant medicine. Moringa oleifera is a fast-growing subtropical, drought-resistant tree. Common names include moringa, drumstick tree, and horseradish tree. Leaves are typically used to make a caffeine-free tea. The leaves can also be dried and blended into powder form so it can be added into smoothies. The leaves are considered a super food, as it is packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and high in plant based protein. It also contains all eight essential amino acids. Moringa contains 7x the Vitamin C found in oranges, 4x the calcium of milk, 4x the Vitamin A of carrots, 3x the potassium of bananas and essential trace minerals such as iron and zinc. Grows best in zones 9 and warmer as it is a tropical plant. It is very fast growing and the leaves/branches are used for "chop and drop" garden practices and composting. The leaves can be soaked for a few days in water and then blended to make an all natural fertilizer. Can also be used to feed chickens.

    I didn’t use this method but may try it my next go round to keep from having to transplant early. I used seedling planters and the paper towel method and I did get germination within 10 days from both. I planted 15 seeds and as of today 8 has germinated, with more sprouts every day. One trick I used is, I gathered rain water and used that to keep them moist. Rain water is high in nitrogen and a natural fertilizer. I hope all goes as well when I transplant, I’m excited about the Moringas!🤞

    Thanks for this! I got my seeds from your website and soaked them for 24 hours (outside with a lid) about 2 weeks ago. We've had record breaking heat, so i didnt use a heat map or cover them once planted. I just found 1 that germinated yesterday!!!🎉😊 I'm very excited

    In my opinion, I would use a deeper cell for the Moringa seeds, the taproot of the Moringa doesn't like disturbances, sometimes fluffing out the roots when transplanting Moringa can stunt the growth for a bit before it takes off, having a deeper cell let's you have better acclimation to the new location, it also aids in tree stability and promotes the roots to focus more on growing deeper into the soil to find nutrients instead of branching out, the deeper the taproot grows the better it can withstand droughts

      You are right about this, they do have a long tap root. I dont notice much transplant shock from the 4 inch pots but I'm sure they would like the deeper pots.

      @@JerrasGarden That's good, it doesn't make a huge difference but it definitely does help for the health and vigorous growth of the tree

    I'm in Cape Town and Moringa apperently don't do so well down here. I believe they grow very well in Kwazulu-Natal and Eastern Cape. I would love to engage anybody from 🇿🇦 with the view of exchanging ideas and purchase of seeds, plants or small Moringa trees. Thank you in advance.🙏🇿🇦

    I got excited when i saw the title of this video. I bring Moringa seeds and leaves from Jamaica each year. Thought it would be great to plant a seed or 2. If it's challenging in Orlando, it will be next to impossible in Massachusetts.

    • @JerrasGarden
      @JerrasGarden  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is hard to get the seed to germinate but it thrives here in Orlando. It will die in the cold of Massachusetts.

    ❤I bought Moringa seedlings from Facebook market place about one month ago, I'm on the Space Coast of Florida. I kept them indoors under lights till it got over 75° everyday, then put them outside in the garden, still in 4" pots, they are about 12" tall now. I've been told they grow really fast, but they aren't growing as fast as I thought they would. So when should I put them in the ground permanently? And since I am also in Florida, with sand, sand and more sand, should I amend the soil like I do with my tomatoes and cucumbers or not? Thank you for your answers!!!

    I’m in Phoenix AZ, so zone 10A. I can get the seeds to germinate, but the trees die at about 7 inches tall. Once they are planted in the ground or big pot, how much water should they get? I am getting conflicting answers on this …

    Hi Jerra..... Thanks for the great video. I'm intending to plant a fence line so need a lot of plants. You mentioned feeding your chickens moringa and I wondered if you as doing black soldier fly larvae as well? I'm growing larvae for my smooth billed Ani Nestor (rescue) but have discovered a whole world of resources around feeding chickens and other creatures with these larvae. Super high in fat and protein. I'm in Nicaragua and always looking for options that aren't easily available here. Cheers and look forward to more of your videos.

    Would putting the solo cups in a 10x20 seed tray without holes on a heat mat work if I cover it with another 10x20tray? I would check on them every day but am curious if that would work in a greenhouse in January (it’s been in the 30’s and 40’s at night so I’m trying to overwinter some plants in my greenhouse this winter). I am also trying to do some seed starting in there as well as I have no space indoors for seed trays, etc. I’m hoping it’ll be successful for germinating my long growing crops.

      It should work if it traps in heat and moisture

    I always had good germination rates, with adding a Camille Teabag into the water for 24 h. Nearly 80% of the crops come out of the shell. Sadly, my problems with moringa start when the little plant reach 30-40 centimeters. Leafs for no reason get white spots, then this spots grow over the whole leaf and so the plant lose all his leaves. Looks like it dries up. Often it grows again new spruces, but then it looks more like a dying plant than something healthy. The height grow just stop.

      The white thing has to be some sort of leaf disease like powdery mildew. Spray with 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water to clean and disinfect. Do you mean a bag of chamomile tea?

      You could grow tomatoes totally indoors if you give them enough light and space. Personally, I have not done this but it is possible.

    Hi Jerra! I was just gifted 2 Moringa plants from cuttings. Can you provide tips to transplant in ground. I’m in FL zone 10a. Do I transplant directly in native soul? Or do you recommend digging a hole and adding in compost? Should I add in any fertilizer? TYSM

      Hi. I recommend you put one cutting in a 1 gallon size container with potting soil to get it to root before planting into the garden. Once they have some roots, its ok to plant in our native soil.

      Yes, you can direct sow seed as soon as all danger of frost has passed. They take forever to germinate though and you get better germination by controlling it as shown in this video. So that is why I don't straight sow outside.

  • @gafairbanks2434
    @gafairbanks2434 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

    First off, Moringa grows with deep tap root and should not be transplanted. Use a very deep pot when sowing seeds. I just cut tops of tall drinking water sport top bottle containers, drill in bottom a few holes. Then, before soaking in water, I scratch dent, gently, the hard outer shell, like doing morning glory seeds. Cuts down sprouting time. Then, plant into containers.
