  • Here's a rundown of our homemade working chute that we put together for handling the flock. I'll show you some of the ewes going through the chute and we'll go over the pros and the cons of this design.
    Thanks for watching!

Hi. Working on building our system now. This was very helpful! Where did you find your back up gates or did you make them? TY

Your shut is perfect, it's a big time and money saver, good build!
For our small herd of 9 penning works but I like the chute for even easier acces to the next sheep in line. Will see if we have time this year to do a bit of changes to our pen system as I'm sure our shearer will appreciate it. I also like the use of plywood to keep them calm, ours are always trying to squeeze between the 2 x 4's.
Our sheep were sheared yesterday which is earlier than usual, much better without all the bugs!
Thank you for the helpful video that works peacefully for sheep and shearer:)

Glad to hear you got the shearing done, shearers are in short supply down here!
We used to pen the sheep, as well. It just got to be too crazy. Building this was one of Jason's best ideas ever, we use it for all kinds of stuff.

    Great work on your chute.
I built ours with well pipe and left over steel panels from when we put the roof on the barn.
Check with the local water well driller if they have old pipe they pulled. We get 1 1/4" OD pipe, works great for gates too. Use the pipe for the frame then use a hog panel to fill in.
Around here it is pretty reasonably priced.
