How to Build a Cheap Working Pen for Sheep out of Pallets

- When you are a small farmer using regenerative agricultural methods you learn how to use what you have on hand to make your farm operate. It doesn't take expensive equipment to get a lot of the jobs done, so use what you have and turn your farm into a profit center.
This week I bring home six ram lambs and put together a simple, cheap (almost free) working facility to give them their vaccine and dewormer. After this they will have nothing but grass, sunshine and fresh air during their time at CoveyChase Farm.
Reminder: Whole animal, ground beef will be back in stock in the next couple weeks and there will be a limited selection of lamb available at the Farm Store.

Thanks for your superior teaching abilities, You gave us a lot to think about as you explained why you did each step and made it easy for us to understand...
I appreciate the feedback!
😜he just vaccinated all 3 with same syringe/needle!
Thank u for the videos sir. We really appreciate and love your work ❤️.
Thank you for the feedback! 🤠
Are you around your sheep alot. So they are comfortable with human contact? I used to run a small beef cattle herd. My breeder cows all knew me and minded me. New calves were dumb and made calving time interesting.
Yes, I am around all my livestock quite a bit, primarily because i rotationally graze and move the animals (cattle, sheep and chickens) at least once a day. This gets them very used to me. And while my sheep and cattle are grass fed/finished they all know what I five gallon bucket and a little sweet feed is. I really want to be able to handle the livestock with as little stress as possible. For their sake AND mine! 🤠
Thx for the vid and idea about the wooden pallets as a building material.
How much did each the pallet cost you?
I appreciate the feedback! The pallets were actually “free”. I have pastured chickens and each ton of feed I buy comes on a pallet. So they were simply laying around. Otherwise I bet you could pick them up cheap or free if you found a place that had them sitting out back and were trying to get rid of them.
Do you think it’s safe to leave sheep flock on the pasture just with electric fencing and no dog guarding it?
@@offgridatef I think in a perfect world I would have a dog(s) guarding chickens and sheep. I have not lost a sheep since implementing the netting. Prior to that I had lost several to dogs. The netting works exceptionally well against ground predators.
@@coveychasefarm Thx for your clarification. The farmer in Belgium (th-cam.com/video/LYCXdjgFxlI/w-d-xo.html) with whom i made an interview - is saying that increasing chicken feed prices makes this businesses not so profitable. Is it the same in USA nowadays?
Did he just use the same needle for all 3 lambs!?!
Yes, one needle to withdrawal the liquid and another needle for insertion into the animal.
