    Very informative- I think my ML7 has one of those gearboxes on it.
    A little tip for 22:02 - if you are worried about making sure that thrustblock stays on, a dab of grease on the pin will hold it on until it is in place.

    Nice video and thanks. I'm sure you have realised by now that the A numbers are part numbers and the serial number for the gearbox is stamped on the output side and starts with QC. Keep up the good work. Regards, Dave.

      Much as I would love to help you, that was the first and only time that I've come across a Mk1 gearbox, and I was doing it all 'on-the-fly' as it were. To my knowledge, Myford never published any documentation for it, because it was so short lived before they brought out the Mk2. So, in short, Myford probably won't be able to supply spare parts for it, and I have no documentation on the gears needed to mate it to the leadscrew. You could try lathes.co.uk - he has a wealth of information on all sorts of historical machinery, or a ML7 owners forum to see if someone there has an actual Mk1 that they can measure for you.

    Great video. Do you happen to remember if the short taper bearing was very hard to remove?
    Mine is being very stubborn. Iv tried a tap in both directions, not sure what else to do, mabey blow torch the gear its on.
    I seem to have a tooth missing on 2 gears, and a wasp nest in the gearbox 😐

    • @beachcomberbob3496
      @beachcomberbob3496  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, you're testing my memory there. As far as I can remember, all of the bearings were fairly easy to remove. The odd tooth can be brazed, if you have equipment. Not sure that wasp nest is an approved lubricant for gearboxes.

      @@beachcomberbob3496 short taper pin* sorry had a brain fart.
      Yeah I couldn't bring myself to run it with the sandy crunching sound in there. Il buy new gears from myford if they still sell them👍

    • @beachcomberbob3496
      @beachcomberbob3496  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vosloob Now you've jogged my memory. I ended up having to drill out a taper pin that a previous owner had hammered in (you don't have to seat them that hard). No mean feat in such close quarters, but it can be done. Myford do sell the gearbox gears, or at least they did, but they aren't cheap.

    Still very, sorry, Incredibly useful when your lathe has a MK 1 Gearbox.
    Just did a search and we meet again!!!
    I still cant get my head round getting a FREE Super 7.

      Glad to be of some help. That's why I made these videos, not only for my own reference (helpful in remembering how it all went together), but that other folks might get some useful information from them. Lucky you - I wish my Super 7 had been free! (Wouldn't trade it for anything - well perhaps a few grand).

      @@beachcomberbob3496 Just getting toe top off mine tonight. The side cover that looked a bit tatty in your video does in fact have a small ring that goes round the leadscrew!
      The top is rusty and looking in saw a lovely pool of water in the bottom. Almost 2 weeks to get it off!
      Now to get the MK 0ne clutch to free itself up. Regards. David and Lily.

      Sorry, I don't have spare gearboxes. Try ebay, or if you're rich, try Myford. Personally, I wouldn't bother with an ML10. I'd trade it in for a deposit on a Super 7.

      @@beachcomberbob3496 I'm so sorry I'm late. Think this kind of Mk1 gearbox is rare? I have an Mk1 Myford lathe without gearbox.

      @@laduaweigel9495 I think I used all of the pictures I have in this video. There is no service manual for this version that I can find, but the manual for the MkII box is freely available on the Internet and has mostly the same interior parts, in terms of gearing.
