The way this hack works is that when Tails "dies" (aka when he would fly back on screen), you beat the level.

I had a Genesis when I was a kid... when you only have a handful of games and one of them is Sonic 2, this is a game you eventually end up playing no matter how much you love Tails.

What I've figured out is if it triggers Tails' respawn mechanic, you win. That's the script they're using to initiate moving to the next zone, basically. This is done either by getting enough distance, or if he dies.

(7:47) Haha, nice. You weren't actually dead there, because normally you'd be able to jump out of the oil pit and use the fans to get back up. However, Tails usually sinks and dies in the oil pit, and I guess he just simply despawned very quickly as you fell there.
(8:34) Ooh, you have to play with Tails on Wing Fortress Zone as well, which is normally not possible.
(9:21) Death Egg Zone too? (9:29) So, you have to beat this boss within 30 seconds?

Looks like when the game registers that you've lost Tails, you gain bonus points equal to:
Seconds remaining x 100 + Rings held x 10.
Seems rather harsh to get an instant Game Over whenever you die, though. Why not just have the player make use of their lives like usual?
Also, what happens if you're super speedy and beat a level via the normal goal within 30 seconds? (This is possible in Emerald Hill Zone Act 1 at the very least.) Does the game kill you for that, or do you just advance to the next level like normal?
And, what happens if you hit a checkpoint with at least 50 rings and enter a bonus stage (if that's still possible in this hack)?
So the real boss was Tails all along…

there is a hack called Amy in sonic 1 and it's like playing Amy from sonic advance and it's different from most character hack because instead of just jumping on enemies you have to hit them with your hammer, she also has a bunch of unique things about her that make it a completely different experience.
Tails snorts several forest herbs and his primal instincts kick in

There's actually an insanely quick and easy way to beat Mecha Sonic.
Hold a Spin Dash where it's first dropping down and get 4 hits in when hitbox is active. Spin Dash out, wait for it to uncurl, and time your jump so it's right at the moment it's vulnerable and you can bounce for 4 more hits.

I’m late but ⤵️
Levels to metropolis: try spin dashing (also use timing and avoid SOME obstacles) also works if tails jumps
Wing fortress: with great timing, at the start let tails fall when sonic is doing a balancing move
You win when Tails has to be "Teleported" by the game to get back to you flying...
That's why you have to get away or make him die...

I think this game needs a better ending after beating Uncle Chuck. (I've always seen Metal sonic as Uncle Chuck after the old cartoons I watched as a kid haha) I mean you have to be pretty on point to beat him within 30 seconds after all.
I know a game that's the exact opposite of this game, called "Keep Tails or Else", you need to keep tails on the screen, if not doing that, you'll die (made by GTKoopa too!)
