- The Ford GT MkII demonstrates how to run rings around supercars! Thanks to @yonly65, I'm experiencing some hot laps in the track special derivative of the new Ford GT at Hypercar Invitational, quickly showing just how much difference there is from road car to race car!
Hypercar Invitational has brought some exceptional cars out to Laguna Seca for a weekend of driving, from road going hypercars like the Zenvo TSR-S and Koenigsegg Agera RS, to the ultimate track toys including the McLaren Senna GTR and Lamborghini Essenza SC V12, and of course also this rather incredible Ford GT MkII.
The Ford GT MkII is the product of Ford and Multimatic's learnings from the GT LM racecar that competed at Le Mans amongst others, without the restrictions enforced for the road going variant. The 3.5l ecoBoost V6 is unleashed to 700hp with the car featuring plenty more aero on the bodywork and generally set up for the race track. Only 45 customers cars were made in total, offering an epic experience out on the circuit, exactly like this.
Taking off in a group with a mixed set of cars; including road supercars amongst some race cars, we're alongside the likes of the McLaren Sennas, 765LTs, Ferrari Pista, Porsches and plenty more. The differences between the two cars are fascinating, from the 765LTs pulling away on straights, to the immense braking advantage of the GT MkII on slicks and its ability to whip around any corner at light speed.
I cannot thank @yonly65 enough for this opportunity, during the sessions where he was kindly taking passengers out for charity rides to support Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area.

He was definitely upset that a ford was being held up by his multi million dollar mclaren. He was trying so hard to shake him he almost put himself into the wall. Probably used to racing mustangs on the streets he couldn’t come to terms that his “monster” mclaren was being shown up. Check your ego at the door sir and step aside so I can pass you.
@@rustyshaklferd1897 his monster street legal Senna was being chased by an even more expensive track only car on slicks. Not sure he’d be that upset?

@@Tyson__B Apparently the street legal Senna is 7 seconds slower than the GT MKII, so the GTR would have to make up for 7 seconds of time on a track at every corner of every lap, i personally don't think teh GTR even with more hp could make up that kinda time, i have seen 3-5 seconds improvements on race cars that were compared to their street legal versions, but a 7 to 10 second difference is insane. I think it could make up about 5 seconds, but it would still lose after a few laps because the Senna is extremely aggressive on it's tire wear and will start to lose grip and become uneven, the Ford GT is build as an endurance car, while the race version is also a lot more aggressive approach and will wear tires faster, it will still be mostly even to the point where it can run consistent laps and not lose much speed overall.

Ben and his wife are the ultimate power couple, true car enthusiasts, putting miles on all their toys and often sharing content.
He also shared many stories on forums like Fchat and they are always a delight to read, like winning the 599XX auction or gifting a 355. Those 2 are a bowl of fresh air compared to all those private collections gathering dust rather than miles.
For sure, I was on a forum chatting with him without realizing who I was talking and he was so cool and kind. We talked about various cars and how awesome it is to have your significant other appreciate cars too!
He is a really nice guy, they were clients at Ferrari Silicon Valley when I met them back in 2012.
100% they're truly awesome and approachable..best part is that they use their cars. Miles = smiles. No garage queens. This is the way.

That orange 720s was absolutely pushing it!!! The rear end was constantly dancing through the corners but never stepped out. Absolutely incredible!
Dancing in the corners isn't a good thing for many reasons tho, heck it's a foot pedal away from stepping out. Must admit tho, thing is a beast and has great self control and power to put down. So i can't fault it for dancing, thing is just THAT powerful.

You could just tell in the video the downforce and aero that GT MK2 has is absolutely incredible. Combined with a confident skilled driver it's a weapon in those curves! Absolutely awesome video schmee!
I have seen videos of people going at insane high speeds into corners and this car somehow devours that like nothing, i am not even exaggerating. The downforce and aero on this car is already insanely good on the road car, the race car version is just cracked up and out of here. If a car is somewhat able to run away on a straight from it, it won't get far when it reaches a corner, this thing can late break and sometimes just hit the corner at high speeds and literally overtake easily at that point, every corner it touches it gets faster.

That's a badass car. I love the wooshes coming from the pressure valves, just gets you hype, you can hear the lightweightness of the car compared to the production cars. Cool video indeed..

The whole point of the MKII is that it's made with no restrictions. No race restrictions, no road car restrictions. Just pure lap time annihilation.

Agreed, i fucking love the sounds it makes while shifting and down shifting or letting off gas, thing is a constant orchestra of sounds and it's a straight symphony of machine sounds and i love it.

And damn, the stance on that GT is crazy, seeing how low and wide it is compared to that GT2RS is nutty
Tim wasnt driving.
Couple things -
1. I think this may be the first time I've ever seen Tim in a T shirt lol
2. The 765 LT is FAST - the way it pulled away in any kind of straight was AMAZING
3. Racecars are clearly a different animal altogether
4. Ben can drive his ASS off!
The crazy thing is the GTE LM version is still 300lbs lighter, and the aero was a little sleaker for that top speed. This car could be even faster if they wanted it to be 100% race car.
i was driving the 765LT, and as fast as it is... without the downforce of the mk2 or a senna.. it's so hard to keep the true track cars behind you. anytime it's a braking zone or a turn, i was toast.

I’m in total love with the Ford GT as a Ford fanboy but I daily drive a 2002 Mustang GT so not quite the same thing but a guy can dream. Yesterday a 2006 FordGT in all black with white stripes came ripping by and it sounded incredible. I listened until I couldn’t hear it anymore.

Truly an exciting set of laps. I've enjoyed riding along via TH-cam with Randy Popst in race cars as he describes the track. It was fascinating to see how this car with this driver was able to knock out everything else on the track. Some were more powerful on the straights but he'd decimate them on the technical corners. Great passenger experience.

Amazing drive and experience. Laguna Seca is one of my favorite all time courses. Btw, is Shmee's t-shirt available for sale to the general public? It was cool, but didn't see it on the shop website.
