- Today, I'm going to show how to install the Wyze Cam V4 using the Wyze Lamp Socket to power it up. This can be an easy setup that you can do and you don't need to worry about running and routing the power cable to the nearest power outlet.

I'm not a big fan of wyze products but I still like and watch your vids😊
Wyze thermostat disaster cost me $500, literally. long story. that said i dont care, i'll still try their products on an individual basis if they are compelling. but yeah they are kinda shady.
Why don't you like Wyze? Their cameras have worked fine for me.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
I’m so glad to see your channel blowing up! You have been grinding for a long time and you deserve it. Thanks for all your hard work!
Thank you so much!
Just want to let you know I really enjoy the vids--you're the first stop when I'm looking at something
Good video as usual. Can't wait for the video about the accessory you mentioned about how to use the socket with other cams.
Coming soon!
short and sweet, great product intro/update. I hope they eventually release a version that is good for outdoor and can power more devices. Note: I don't have any security camera/lights in place yet but I'm leaning towards eufy for subscription free.
Thanks for watching!
I look forward to see the video on a alternative camera or alternative device.
Thanks L.H.
I can see that lamp getting filled with spider webs by summers end... cool accessory !
True…
Great!!
I bought some a couple years ago, but the cables weren't long enough for my intended uses. Funny thing is that one of the lamp sockets I received came with a 5 foot cord, which was perfect... When I contacted Wyze, they couldn't tell me why one of them came with a 5 foot cord, and all the rest were 2.5 feet. I had assumed that maybe Wyze was changing the packaging to add 5 foot cords to new boxes, but it looks like that wasn't the case...
Definitely want to see if this works with any eufy outdoor cams?
This would be a GREAT product that Ring needs to come up with to Power their battery doorbells! Unfortunately Ring battery doorbells need a DC 20-24volt connection and requires drilling a HOLE through your home to use their plug-in adapter and really NOT an option for my older Brick and wet-plaster home as I do NOT have any existing doorbell wiring.
Oh you tease us!! Do tell!! lol
Will do..I have to do some testing first..
Thanks for the vid... Will I need a smart bulb or can I simply use a regular LED 30w bulb and keep the dusk to dawn and in app power control capabilities?
You can use a regular bulb.
Can I use the Wyze Smart Bulb with this set up along with the v4? Thanks?
Hi, quick question can I set up my Cam V4 at my home while I'm in another country. Thanks
REQUEST VIDEO WYZE CAM V4 PLUG IN POWER BANK WHAT IS COMPATIBLE TO USE ❤️❤️❤️
pretty cool idea actually i might look into it. nice switchguard thingy too.
lol… thanks for watching!
Can you use this with Ring plug in cameras?
If they made the socket adapter multi mode power (like a charger) it could be great to use with a USB hub tucked under your eaves and power all the cameras on an entire side of your house with a single light bulb adapter. But, as usual, Wyze falls short.
That is a great idea! I haven’t seen a company make one yet.
Interesting, not only can you power a camera you can turn a porch light into a motion sensing light.
👍👍
Can I use it on my motion carport porch light?
Most likely, not because you have to have three bulb socket powered at all times.
Have you heard of " PIXI CAM " or " MINICAM ", what is your opinion of these ?
Will this work with any of the wyze pan cams?
Unfortunately, No. it only has a 1 amp output.
My main issue with these lamp sockets is the built in tech that allows multiple lamp sockets to be linked together and controlled by the settings on one socket. This feature can be useful if you only want to connect a camera to one lamp socket, but have all the lamp sockets around your house turn on from dusk to dawn. I have cameras connected to all my lamp sockets though, and the problem for me is that everytime we have a power outage, the sockets all link together when the power comes back on and change the settings on my sockets. Then I have to go to each light switch, cut power to the socket for 30 seconds, and reset the settings on each socket with the correct settings, which is a total pain... They really need to have a toggle in the settings that allows you to disable the linking feature!
Does this work with the Wyze cam pan v3?
The Pan V3 requires a 2 amp adapter. This one only has 1 amp.
@@LifeHackster TY
Does any one have information is this is compatible with the wireless doorbell?
This is a great solution, but my lamp fixtures are 180 degrees opposite of yours, with a lid, where the bulb installs at the bottom. Installing this adapter adds too much height to the bulb causing it to stick out the top, and I can’t secure the lid on top. In your example, the added height of the adapter causes the bulb to stick out bottom. I’m not really excited about replacing the fixtures. I hope someone creates a slimmer, low profile version of this one day.
This would be so easy to steal or sabotage. Simply walk up to it and pull the wire, I want to like it
It depends on where the camera/light is located. It's marketed as an alternative option for folks who don't want and/or cannot wire up a Wyze camera.
The idea is you already have a cloud recording of the person pulling the wire, regardless if they destroy the camera or not.
so is any other outdoor camera.
@@cryengine_xits just that the cord has unplug me written all over it, it looks so easy to do, It gives people ideas the moment they see it
Hi just want to know if I can use this socket with tapo C120. Thanks as always
thats what i wanna do too! however i'm thinking, the whole idea is i also want to control the bulb, i want to set it up where when my camera detects a person, it turns the porch light on. can do this with a motion bulb, but the camera could detect someone coming down the sidewalk if mounted that way. and i guess you need the wyze app support for that, so you could only use it as a dumb power source on other brands at best? and i'm not sure what other device hackster says you need or what thats about...pending that video.
i'd just get a wyze cam with it but they make you have a sub just to get person detection. just overall they are a pretty shady company with constant bugs in their products as well. for example a comment on this video, says when the camera turns on the light turns off with this device? if true, wtf? but that sounds like a wyze thing that would happen lol
Technically, yes but wait for my next video for this because I’ll be doing some more testing.
@@cryengine_x I guess I need to work on the second video pretty soon… I still have to do some testing..
My wyze socket makes my bulb dim
and brightens again and dims again, so on..
💐🌷🌹💐
Thanks for the video. They should have made the usb cable a foot long with 1ft extensions.
Yes I agree.
I don't like Wyze at all. It'll be nice once competitors do the same thing, namely TP-Link. I love the C120s I got based on your recommendation.
Thanks for watching!
Can you answer our questions ❓❓
What’s the ?
Better than nothing I guess.
Problem I’ve found with this setup is that if the light is on at night and you view the camera, the light turns off and stays off. Very annoying
Do you have it in dusk to dawn setting? I haven’t noticed it in mine.
I replaced with a v4 a few weeks ago and just tested it now and it works as intended. Not sure what was up with my v3 in that scenario.
Yup. I faced the same issue. I reported it to wyze 18 months back but they never fixed it. I just ended up buying smart bulbs. Now I don’t have to rely on wyze.
so its only for the V4 ? 🤔
@@peupeuguy310They have been selling them for a while now, so designed for the V3. They work completely fine with my V3.
Not liking the exposed cable from light socket to camera. Easy to disable or rip away.
And at arms length. So Easy to rip off the wall especially in the hood. at least with a doorbell camera it takes a little bit of effort
depends on the mount, mine would be up high because my light is overhead on the porch ceiling, not so easily reachable. also this is pretty much a weakness of any outdoor camera.
@@cryengine_x Sure the camera itself could be mounted up high but that cord is gonna be low where the porchlight is. Unplug it from the light and give it one good hard yank, maybe the camera will come down with the cord, maybe it won't.
1 amp output. Ughhhh
I know..in my next video, I’ll show other options that has higher output.
@@LifeHackster nice. i'm seeing very little bulb power adapters on amazon but maybe i'm not looking hard enough.
Clearly it tells us to buy Wyze V4 if you want one 😢😢😢
I’ll give you options for other cameras in my next video.
Looks bad installed. Problem solved by many other devices that work better.
Tell me the many other devices that you say that doesn’t replace the light fixture and a camera that is not battery powered so that it records 24/7…so that I can check it out..
*Crickets*
? for LH - "Specific" clear switch cover source? These would be great for anyone with children or "smart" pets 🐶🐱🦜
Here you go.. I’ll also add it in the description- amzn.to/4d6q06J
come on dog, learn2amazon.
@LifeHackster I can second this! I use these for this exact application and my floodlight cams that are switch powered. Have saved me headache when the switches are powered with a bypass as well.
Great video. One of my sockets isn't recognizing my v3. I'm going to have to do some tinkering / reformatting to see if it begins to recognize it. I only have 3 connected, so it's not a volume limiter.
