Bayraktar Drone Flies Through Russian Su-27 Jet Wash

- Footage recorded by a Ukrainian TB2 Bayraktar drone over the Black Sea shows an incident in which a Russian Su-27 combat jet intentionally disrupts the flight path of the drone with its wake turbulence, commonly referred to as jetwash.
It's not immediately clear why the drone was shot down. It's possible the Russian pilot wasn't able to distinguish its nation of origin as Turkey flies their own Bayraktar drones over the Black Sea. It's also possible the aircraft were in international airspace and not worth the geopolitical fallout of engaging it.

i remember an ukranian soldier who was piloting an ukranian tb-2 said they lost communication with the aircraft and they thought it's gone but about an hour later tb2 managed to return and land by itself with many holes on the body. they fixed it and still flyimg. i think this story was on reuters.

You gotta consider the Force that is put on that Drone, it's not just that the Fuel is dumped onto it, it's that the Fuel is dumped onto the Drone with the same Force the Aircraft exerts on the Air.
Big difference between just throwing Fuel on it versus throwing it on it at at least 300km/h (roughly 190mph), that's a lot of Force already, depending on how low the Su-27 flew then aided by the Thrust of the Engines.

The key difference being flying through jet wash vs. being rammed and having the propeller damaged. The MQ9 was doing OK even with having fuel dumped all over it. I'm relatively sure the idea was to mess it up to the point it crashed, but despite being jetwashed and soaked in Jet fuel it was still flying, and so the Russian pilot rammed it in frustration, knowing his aircraft could handle the impact much better than a lightly built drone. I think it's funny that the Russians are frantically trying to recover the remains of the MQ9 in hopes of getting something useful from it. I'm quite sure there are self-destruct charges on the important stuff, never mind falling a long, long way to impact the sea.

Nope. The MQ-9 was physically hit by the Russian jet it encountered. It didn't fall out of the sky because of jet wash.

@@ruthenican I've played plane simulator games with flight joystick. Even in simulation games it's hard to save a plane in a stiuation like this. And it looks like connection between control station and drone lost after Su-27's interception. There is a record shared by Ukraine officials that shows Tb-2's Autopilot was able to turn back to designated airport after being hit by Russian Anti-air system.

It isn’t. This was caused by wing tip vortices. They spin, rotate and fall off any airfoil producing lift. That’s why the drone literally spins when it’s hit by them. The jet could be at idle and produce them as long as it is flying. When departing an airport in a smaller aircraft behind a larger aircraft you must climb above the flight path of the larger aircraft to avoid these wingtip vortices or wait until they fall and dissipate.
Even damaging cannot stop TB2 it has autopilot and can turn back the basement byself.
Once again Russia proved how powerful TB2 are.
Almost all of bayraktar in Ukraine was destroyed, and Turkey stopped their deliveries there because the Russians questioned the reputation of their company.
So they are useless against countries with good anti-aircraft🙂

If I am right tb2 max alt is 25k, in the grand scale it is barely comparable with military choppers but I guess for the size its not bad
@@ardaarsen Weird that you said choppers. If you had said jets or turboprops, yes, 25k is normal. But 99.9% of the time, you will not see a helicopter anywhere near 25k. Even drone helicopters. Something like an AH-64 or UH-60 would be lucky to hit 10k. Especially if loaded anywhere near max capacity. And even if they could fly that high, it would be dangerous. Helicopters can't rush their descent, so it would be an hour of delicate flying just to get down. Not to mention the thin, high-speed air up there.

The new drones use SATCOM technology and these drones have an autonomous system and move on their own without the need for an operator in a negative situation. You underestimate Turkish software engineers. It is a good experience as they are currently aiming to test these drones live for development.

was trying to figure out where they said about it being shot down?, found it!.. lol.. but from what we've seen here, it MAY have still been shot down, the Aircraft doesn't need to explode or drop from the skies IMMEDIATELY to be classed as "Shot Down".. a bullet/shrapnel or flak flying through a fuel tank eventually dropping the craft is still classed as a "Hit".. any other kind of slow mechanical faliure is still viable here tbh.. the drone dropping after another 5mins in the air is probably what happened tbh.

The element of the slightest possibly of losing a Flanker to a UAV no less - far outweighs conflagrating an international escalation incident by using ordinance. Just to inform you, american made mq9 reaper drone had also got attacked and that junk fell to black sea. America doesnt sell reapers to other nations but one is estimated to be around 30-35 million dollars (Some people claims its 100 million). Tb2 costs around 1-5 million and 10 million when sold to foreign nations (with the drone you also receive Operators that teaches your army how to use them).

@@mikeinsugarland tb2 costs 6-7 times cheaper at least and 20-50 times at most. Whatever junk you put on reaper, tb2s price easily gives it the edge. Its sustainable and reliable in combat and its so good that it got copied a bunch of times. I dont see anyone copying your reapers.

It's a political dance. The Fighter Jet doesn't use its weapons and this in particular drone is just used for surveillance in this mission. The fighter jet is dumping fuel to go into the intake of the aircraft to try to shut down the engine and have it crash. If weapons are used it has weird ramifications that somehow fuel does not.
I don't think Russia would see them carrying sidewinders as a reason not to use their own missiles against drones... do you honestly think any drone is capable of manoeuvring on an SU-27 which is designed to take out much more capable craft and flies literally 20x the speed? TB2 max speed is slower than like every car produced since 1950 🙄
The Rus jets could easily be shot down or intercepted by nato resources if they wanted to kill them for getting near the drones. No need to arm the drones. That's the purpose of the drone, to be a sacrificial un-manned craft. They're just letting moosecow hang themselves.

It cost the drone bout 1000 ft but it gained it back in a few seconds. So anyone know why Su-27 skipped it? Dont tell me they cant hit it because Bayraktars chasis isnt metal ??
